    My Trip Report

Realize this one's a little outdated but I'm new to this board and was enjoying the other TRs and figured I'd share my sordid little tale.

October 26-28 past … little three day wonder to Bally’s which has become my home base – been there last three times. Was hoping to keep trip budget under 3k but brought 4k just in case. Took the early flight out (8:15), always fun getting up at 4:30 AM. I had a window seat in rear of plane. Center seat was … empty? Watched … waited … sure that each new person was headed there. Miracle of miracles … center seat stayed empty. I’m a big guy (6’3” 230 pounds) and this was huge (pun intended). Was actually able to doze a fair amount of the trip.

Landed at McCarron … and is there a better feeling in the world than landing at McCarron? All that anticipation! Been planning it for months! And now – you’re there! Cab ride to Ballys, arrive around noon. $20 trick at check in gets me North Tower Diamond Floor. Is that a good upgrade? I don’t even know … but it feels good to think you know some insider trick. Doubtless someone will burst my bubble and tell me that an upgrade like that can be had free for the asking. Also checking in early, which is a plus. Of course, it IS a Wedensday and there IS a recession – no shock there are rooms available, eh?

Checked in, time to call Gina. Gina I got to know through a third friend who is a photographer and who has shot her a fair amount. She did some adult work in the 1980s and in her 40s still slows the traffic considerably. First met her 3 years ago. We had talked about getting together in New York but kept missing each other. She was in a comped petite suite at TI and when I mentioned I NEEDED some Vegas time, she invited me to stay (course, I end up staking her to gamble and picking up meals, drinks, etc) – I hedged my bet in case I was misunderstanding her and got a room at Paris but am very pleased to say did not spend any time there.

Pleasant stroll down memory lane over. Back to this trip. I decide I need a beer (I try not to drink on the plane and have to climb over everyone for the head) so over to Sully’s bar. Turns out I needed a few beers. Playing VP for quarters to manage budget (while I still can). Text from Gina … she’s almost there … but needs money for cab fare (shock!). Yeah yeah … I know what you are thinking but it is a very very pleasant thing to see a taxi stop and a girl get out with a face designed by the angels and a body designed by the devils – and hum Black Eyed Peas “Tonight’s Gonna Be A Good Night” to yourself.

In spite of overwhelming demand, I'll continue!

Got pitch for time share on way in .. referred to Gina as 'my wife' (yeah ... thats it .. in my dreams). Bags to the room and back to Sully's for VP, cocktails and planning. Gina expresses interest in seeing Taylor Hicks that night, playing at Indigo Lounge - I dutifully grab some tickets.

Off to blackjack and Gina off to slots. Having a nice chat with cute chubby little nurse who's there by herself. Gina returns twice because "I lost my money" (and here I was worried she lost MY money!). No friction ... little nurse takes to calling Gina "rock-star" for reasons unclear but Gina likes it.

I'm up about $200 when Gina returns a third time .. with $$$. Hit slots for $800 and wants to "give me half" (little more than I had staked her). That is a sign to cash out and I color up. We head up to room. Fierce struggle ensues between Gina and the bottle of Patron we grabbed down the block. I do a little work on bottle of Jameson's and smoke a cigar.

Gina needs to lie down. She does ... for two hours. Time to go to Taylor Hicks. Try to rouse her and she is speaking in tongues. As best I could tell, she had chnaged her mind about going. Headed down myself ... played a little VP at the bar ... headed over to see Taylor Hicks ... and keep in mind I have never watched a single episode of American Idol. Young couple from Alabama trying to decide whether to see the show. I ask if they'd go if they had one free admission? They seem puzzled and I offer them the extra ticket. Kid asks how much and I get all magnanimmous (and hope Karma is taking note!).

Taylor Hicks was better than I expected, he's a pretty good showman. Music's a little more country than I usually go for. And they have crammed about twice as many seats as reasonably belong there. They were going for that vintage Vegas lounge act and got a cattle car. But enjoyed show. Return to the room and find Gina is still really really really sleepy.

Oh well ... downstairs again .. black jack ... ran into the little nurse again (had she ever even LEFT the table?) and was about $200 to the good when I realized I had been up close to twenty hours by this point. Back to the room ... pull up seat by the window, pour a Jamesons, light a Gurkha, look out at the lights.

Gina snoring lightly - no matter - tonight WAS a good night!

Molder and Run - thanks for the kind words!

pretty beat so I'll just do a real short addendum.

Next morning, woke up feeling like a million bucks (bankroll said different) and the hot redhead next to me moved ... comforting to know it was not actually a coma. The hottie started to stir (comforting to know she wasn't actually in a coma!). She turned over on her pillow, smiled ... reached down to shake hands with little Sceej and commented that he was already wide awake. Although I am not technically a doctor, I insisted on doing a careful mammary screening. Gina climbed aboard ... partway through she sort of mentioned we had no protection. My attitude is if fifty-something sperm manages to hit the bullseye on forty-something egg ... well with that run of luck I am leaving a millionaire anyway.

Worked up an appetite. Ordered room service - lumberjack for me, omelot for her. Gina finds half full glass of Jameson's from last night and downs it on an empty stomach! Chick ain't even Irish! Guy wheels in the order and there she is in just my T-shirt. Gave him a cash tip but honest, he'd done pretty well already.

Well OK then ... f*cked watered and fed .. ready for another day in beautiful Las Vegas!

It seems to vary, Donny C

Always slightly bigger more modern room. Supposedly much better TV but have never had TV on in a Vegas hotel room and anyone who does should be ashamed of themselves!

Always had a coffee maker (which is nice). Half the time had a mini fridge (also nice). View not very good ... looks down on the parking lot and pool of the Quad but off into the desert in the distance.

And the beat goes on ...

First full day … having eaten and satisfied all other biological imperatives, we decided to go out and walk the Strip a little. The never ending variety of the Vegas Strip. Wide eyed mid westerners (ok, forgive my east coast chauvinism, I was pretty wide eyed my first time and I’ve seen Times Square in all its decadence), guided tours from what I assume are a variety of Asian locales, strip club pamphleteers and the street performers trying to hustle pictures. Gina felt the need to say hello to Spiderman, who waived. We passed a couple of rode hard ‘show girls’ with enough cellulite on thighs to give me a run for my money. Amazed by number of people posing with the various street performers and not realizing that a tip is expected.

We headed into Caesars. Pretty empty bar (it was still early) sat down for some VP. Friendly bartender pointed us to the two seats that hit the most Royals (yeah right) and insists on making Gina his specialty drink “Strawberry Fields Forever”. She was flattered (he was good looking young charmer – flirty but respectful to the fact that I was there) and drank what looked a lot like a smoothie to these old eyes. Shock of shocks … the seats proved cold … no royals! We wandered Caesars a little – Gina musing about how great it would to stay there and me explaining how great it is to have the couple hundred it would have cost in my bankroll. She ALMOST had me when she mentioned the topless pool – but then had visions of me trying to stare off legions of oiled muscled lunks descending on Gina like seagulls on a French fry on the boardwalk.

Back to Bally’s for satisfying el cheapo lunch at the Mexican place. Then Gina off to slots, me to blackjack. Gina holding her own initially – only one visit with the “I lost my money’ pout – I was up and down too. Riding a little hot streak, decided to venture a ‘large’ bet ( no snickering – I already owned that I am decidedly low roller) of $100. Dealt 6/4 and dealer turns self a 5. Hesitated a second (self jinx?) and doubled down. Drew an ‘8” (no complaints with that). Dealer shows under card is a 6 … deals self a 9. Determined, I go right back at her with another $100. No drama on this one. Dealt a 17, dealer showing face card, shows the face card under and that $300 hit took care of anything like a profit for that session. I go off to look for the redhead, who informs me that “This machine sucks! It has been soaking in money and won’t pay”. I forgo explaining how no public money went into building ANY of these beautiful hotels, there is a little thing called the house edge? We are down about $500 collectively.

Head to the pool for a little. Stops the hemorrhaging of bankroll but … Gina soaks up the sun … while I come from a long line of Irish vampires.

Dinner is … deferred? We go out to walk the Strip again. Note to self, walking is not as much fun as gambling but a LOT less expensive. Pass Harrah’s and Carnival Court is noisy. Gina comments she’s never been there. Hmmm, lets see …. no cover? No dress code? No problem! Grab a beer and a Margarita (“Make sure it’s Patron, Hun”). Gina squealing and cheering the flare bartender. Then jerk on the wrist from Gina – “I wanna dance”.

It’s not that I CAN’T dance? It’s just that I can’t DANCE. Out on the floor. Mixed crowd. Lot of middle aged women in groups. Husbands sitting it out or in side feeding the casino? Who knows. Gina is giving me the equivalent of a lap dance to “All Right Now” by Free. Couple of convention types in white shirts and ties absolutely gawking. Two Mexican guys give me a very enthusiastic thumbs up. Gina is KILLING this song and I am an accessory to murder! Funny thing is it was a hit when she was in pigtails?

DJ segues into “Play That Funky Music, White Boy!” and at one point Gina jumps into my arms and hip level is grinding. Draws a couple looks of disapproval from some of the more matronly dancers but with eyes shut and hair tossing, I don’t think she is too concerned. DJ announces he’s done and band is coming on … we hand for a bit. Band was called Spazmatics I think? They took waaaay too long to get set up and dance floor cleared … sucked the air out of the crowd a little. Killed a few more pesky brain cells at the bar and headed back to home base.
