It may be that I am using the wrong terminology when I call places like Tahiti Village and Desert Rose Resort "extended stays". I am not sure what the term is for these properties. Or should I call them rentals?

Also, I wanted to include all-suite hotels that do not get a ton of buzz on the board like Elera and Signature. I am considering all of these properties for the future.

I am comparing those properties to popular hotels like Wynn, Aria, Cosmo, and Bellagio. I can get a suite at the other properties with a full kitchen or kitchenette for $100 a night, while $100 will barely get a standard room in the popular luxury hotels.

Certainly far more amenities abound at WYNNARIACOSMOBELLAGIO and the room features may be more high-tech, but in order to get a "luxury" trip, it is possible to do so outside of the popular luxury hotels (particularly for non-comped visitors) for a much lower rate.

All-suites like Elera and Signature are connected to PH and MGM, respectively, so you can get all the amenities of staying at PH or MGM if you stay at those properties.

For people who have done both, considered both, done either, prefer one to the other, or just plain have never made the comparison, what are your thoughts on "extended stays/all-suites" vs "popular luxury hotels"?

The bottom line accomm at Signature is a studio, not a suite. Kinda like Vdara but with a more complete kitchen, and certainly far more than the not-all-suite "all-suite" farce that is Rio.

Variety of terms out there, mostly relevant only in terms of form of ownership and of course quality. There are efficiencies, short-term apartments, extended stays, timeshares, fractionals and the range of "hotel" accomms, and then the array of property types available through places like vrbo.com.

FWIW, we stayed at the Monarch Cancun timeshare which is up near South Point and I won't do that again. It was shabby and we had plumbing/odor issues and I didn't like having to drive for everything we wanted to do. I did enjoy having a kitchen and having laundry facilities on property.

I have looked into Jockey CLub, Polo Club, Carriage House and a few others on or nearer the strip, but none of them do it for me. The Vdara has piqued my interest and I may give them a try when I have a long trip and want to have a couple of days without doing a lot of gambling.

We stayed at the Whyndam Grand Resort, it's a time share that they rent the rooms that the owners don't use. Just east of MGM.

Was like a 1 bedroom apartment. Separate bedroom, full kitchen washer and dryer. 24 hour pool (although it was closed when we were there due to thunderstorms).

It was on sale through Vegas.com for I think 15% off and at the time you could buy vegas.com gift cars at Costco. $100 of gift card for $80. Final bill was about $95 a night. Was a hard price to beat for what we got.

Is it perfect for every trip for everyone? No. Is is perfect for every trip for me? No, we're booking a normal room for my wife and I.

BUT!! Depending on your plans it can be a really good deal. Our first night we headed to Von's and picked up a couple cases of water and threw them both in the fridge.

#1 The condo/extended stay/timeshare places that I have looked at have all been NON smoking, deal breaker for me.
#2 If we are going to Vegas we want to be in a casino property.

All comes down to the type of trip you want. The properties you are referring to often have laundry facilities...that would be a plus.
