Moorea Villa

Have a guys trip planned this March to MB.

We have a Moorea Sun Villa reserved for Friday March 22nd. Its during the first week of the NCAA tourney. Cost is $1700 for the day. I know the weather is iffy that time of year and we can always cancel 24 hours in advance.

Has anyone utilized a Sun Villa before? Looks nice, 3rd floor, large. But is it worth it? Do they tack on any gratuity for the cabana itself?

 

$1,700 seems steep to me, but I don't know.

 

We haven't rented the Villas on the 3rd floor. We usually rent a Moorea Pavilion. The set up for the Villas looks great, but the only downside is the weather. They will put a standard gratuity on your bill at the end of the day.

 

How many guys in your group? The capacity of a Villa is 16, IIRC. If you have fewer than 16 guys, you could always take the elevator back to the Moorea Beach level and ask some girls to join you

Well there will be 6-8 guys on the trip. It does hold 16 so we will have plenty of room.

We used to all hit Vegas once or twice a year in our 20's. Now we are in our 30's and don't get out as often, maybe every other year. So we figure why not go all out when we do get the chance.

I think the pavillons were the same price for Moorea. Other cabanas at the regular MB pool were $900 range for one that could hold more than 6.

We knew it would be expensive given the NCAA tourney. We hit Encore Beach Club a couple of years ago and had a blast but it was anything but low key. We thought the Moorea/MB pool would be a little quieter to relax and watch some BBall.

I'll watch the weather and if looks cool will see if they will negotiate on the price. According to online booking there are still sun cabanas left that day and there are only 5 total.

Never went to the Moorea beach but I have done other cabana's and usually the price they give you is for use of the cabana or you must spend at least that much in food and beverages. Then they add on the 20% tip and 7%(i beleive) tax.

So if you consume $1700 in booze and food they charge you:
$1700 (food and bev)
$ 340 (gratuity)
$ 119 (tax)

$2159 (total) --- they dont charge you an additional 1700 for the cabana/villa.
I would call to double check, just to be on the safe side.

Also, $1700 is not bad for a villa that accomedates 16 people. If I remember correctly the basic cabanas at Wet republic started at 2000 or 2500. the villas were way more.
Encore started at 2500 - 3500 depending on what level you got.

We did a cabana at tao beach at venetian 2 summers ago and it was only $1000 minimum at the time. We had 12 guys... everyone had a blast, nobody left sober and It cost us about $130 a peice for 8 hours of hanging out. Saved me a ton of money by getting me out of the casino for the day. Well worth the experience.

 

Thanks for the info. I did call and they said food/drink would be extra. When we hit the beach club they gave us a large cabana for $2500 food/drink minimum. We had a blast just trying to spend the money. There were 12 of us and ended up ordering one of each appetizer and had to add 2 bottles of grey goose at $400 a piece just to get up there. We also bought 24 cans of corona at $10 a can and laughed that we spend $240 on a case of corona. In cans no less. But hey its Vegas and you only live once.

But as you said we all had a great time for about $250 a piece. And I forgot to factor in the opportunity cost of not pissing away that much and more in the casino. With a little luck on the bball games maybe it will pay for itself.

The question is, Is it worth it?

So if you consume $1700 in booze and food they charge you:
$1700 (food and bev)
$ 340 (gratuity)
$ 119 (tax)
$2159 (total)

So if there's six guys, That's $360 before food and drink. Don't count on eight guys, someone usually bails. And if they don't it's just a savings bonus.

Third floor, which means it's not by the talent-- err, pool. But that could be a good thing if the focus of the married men is March Madness. And it could be irrelevant if the weather is bad.

So is it worth it? That's your call.

You mentioned the weather could be iffy. You may consider making a backup reservation to hedge on the weather. I'll bet Lagasse's is rocking during the tournament. They have pool tables in their "cabanas". Check the reservation policies though in case the weather is pool worthy.

Do they have proper blackjack rules in the poolside casino ? of is it party pit rules ?

 

I don't think the rules were good the last time we were at Moorea Beach (June 2012). But most people go in there just to take a short break from sunning, napping, or swimming and they likely didn't care.
