we finally stayed at riviera last fall due to a great offer they sent us.

we stayed in the monaco tower and the room was clean, quiet and bed was super comfortable.

would not hesitate to stay there again.

also if you rent a car the parking is just steps from the entrance and elevators to the tower.

I stay at the Riv a lot because they send offers I just can't get at the bigger places. The remodeled rooms are really nice and the beds are super comfortable. All their rooms are also pretty nicely sized compared to some of the comparable rooms in the "nicer" hotels. I will say I've never been a fan of their bathrooms, though.

The Riv will be my mainstay hotel when I'm there in a few weeks, with MSS and MGM being my transitory ones.

Very basic but decently sized. Non frilly lounge chairs with a few tables scattered around. I've never stayed there in the summer (I go mostly spring and fall) so I don't know if they have some of the other amenities the other hotels have like music, ect.

Stayed there a couple years ago on short notice. The rooms were....actually decent.

Dead side of the strip tho'.

I like just going out my hotel and being in the thick.

Ditto on the super comfortable beds. M wife and I can never agree on a mattress, and this was one which totally worked for both of us. Mini fridge and smallish safe in room. Never a wait for an elevator either.
Casino was ok, drink service superb and the bus stops are right outside. We got a rate of $75 for 5 nights including weekend. Better than the Quad, and I think we got the better room.
With a smallish gambling budget, we got ok offers for the next six months.

the pool is on the quiet side and has a deep end and lots of real grass areas which is rare.

The pool is extremely chlorinated but very refreshing at the same time. It was perfect on a hot August day last summer. No problem finding a lounger. They play rock music outside but not super loud.

They do offer cabanas which are actually the ground level pool rooms in the small San Remo tower. You know those old school style rooms with a small patio area. They gutted these rooms and turned them into cabanas. I believe there are 7 or 8 of them.

As I mentioned in another thread, if you're staying on a comp it's $60 a night to upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite and the ones in the Monte Carlo tower have balconies. The south facing suites have excellent views of the south strip. Avoid the north facing rooms in that tower as their view is the depressing unfinished and lifeless Fountainblue hotel. These are real suites with separate bedroom and living room, wet bar, fridge, and half bath. Some are remodeled and some are in the original 1975 decor. A sign in my bathroom stated the maximum amount they could charge for the room is $2000 so at one time they must have been in high demand :)

There's something about having a balcony to sit on, relax and take it all in, even if you're stranded at the north end of the strip.

Short video of the living room area: http://youtu.be/zlIkTFCm8Tw

Longer video of balcony and view: http://youtu.be/b12KYXE-HxM shows the pool and grass areas as well.
