    My Trip Report

Just got back from a weekend trip to Tunica. Stayed at the goldstrike and thought I would provide a few tidbits about the trip:

*The buffet renocation is a disaster. I had heard they were upgrading the buffet, but the temporary one is bad. They've basically closed down the food court and placed the buffet in there. I mean, its a Tunica buffet so it was never delicious, but now it is almost inedible.

*The place was packed Saturday! There was a concert in the theater, slot tournament, and just a ton of people walking around. Probably the busiest night I have seen in Tunica in a few years.

*One of the floor supervisors I have become friends with confirmed for me that MGM is really trying to cut back on the comps. The end total for the weekend: I played 14 hours with an average bet of $2200 and only ended up with 190k in TC and $2700 in EC.

Overall, a fun weekend. But they really need to finish the buffet renovations in a hurry!

I always found their buffet to be hit or miss. One of the places on their food court had pretty good chicken wings so I usually ate that or walked over to the Horseshoe who has a fantastic buffet.

I hate that Tunica comp/point earning is 1/5 of what Vegas gives. The baccarat and craps dealers are nicer than most in Vegas and there's something to be said for that.

I agree on all counts. The buffet at Goldstrike was really only decent at breakfast to begin with. Now this temporary one is just awful and its placement has effectively closed the food court for the time being.

Room service has always been pretty decent, except for the meat loaf. Nothing wrong with the meat loaf, but the portion is small. Their wings are pretty good too.

Had the buffet for lunch right before NYE in the old room. It was hit and miss, the fried chicken was solid though.

I was wondering about the food court, and the little cart they had set up in front of it out in the lobby two weeks ago. I thought I read somewhere that the cart had hot dogs, but never stopped to check. I do remember riding up the elevator with an older couple, who had take out, and the lady was telling the husband that she was sure the order was messed up because it always was, so that led me to believe that the deli/burger joint was still open. How, I don't know.

    Thanks for the report!

At an avg bet of $2200 / hand you must be a whale in tunica!

I grabbed a slice of pizza at the cart when i first arrived. It also had hot dogs, coffee, some cupcakes, and that's about it

lol, I have no idea. But they did reserve a bac table for me and my friends, which was cool (mainly because they let my friends play below the table limit while I played big)

While I'm sure you've played there far more than I have, I can't think of any time I've played with other players were playing with black chips much less anything else.

What type of room do you get? I've only stayed there once and it was a last min request to the floor lady and was given just a standard room. Next time we stay there I'd like a room with a better tub for my wife.

Holy hell! How did you end up doing?

That doesn't sound like many TCs for such heavy play. We usually only play at the Harrahs over there, I like the Goldstrike but it feels a little small and they don't give us great comps. With that type of action you would be a whale at any of the Tunica casinos! My experience has been the same as dunebug81s -- I hardly see much black chip action in tunica much less anyone betting thousands.

Every now and then I will see other players playing black, purple and orange chips. But it is infrequent. Maybe one or two other players at most if I am there on a weekend. Although one of the craps dealers I am friendly with told me the story of how last year a yougn guy who is, I guess, the heir to the Black & Decker business played max limits at a reserved craps table and walked away with over $300k! He said that's the biggest player he has ever seen at Goldstrike.

They do have one bedroom suites, which is what I get. They are nothing like Vegas suites, but they are a big step up from the standard room. The living room area of the suite is as big as the standard room. And it comes with a jetted tub and a much better shower.

Finished up. But it was a roller coaster ride. We got there kind of late Friday night and did really well, up several thousand. Next morning, I played craps with one of my friends. He is usually good for an automatic seven out, so of course I bet the darkside against him (he doesn't mind, its sort of a joke between us). So of course he goes on the roll of his life, hits 11 points and absolutely destroys me (I started pressing after the fourth point). So I go play bac and stage a mini-comeback, only to get wiped out there. Decide its time for lunch and a break. After a break, I go back to the bac tables and go down even more! Yikes! Now I'm down about $42k for the trip and down almost 55k at that bac table alone! My friend watches me as I debate between just taking a big loss for this trip or going back up to the room for more cash. I am about to call it quits when I decide to check my pockets. I've got 5k in chips in my pocket. so I figure what the hell, play the whole 5k. Play banker and it hits! I then bet the whole 10k (which is the table limit for Tunica) on banker and it hits again. so now I have some chips to work with and decide to keep playing. I'm still not sure how, but over the course of the next half hour, I am able to turn that last 5k in my pocket back into the 55k I had dropped at the table! What a relief!!! And it was just in time to stop and all of us to go to the steakhouse.

Played a little more late saturday evening and left sunday morning up about 17k. So absolutely no complaints here. I got very lucky!

Headed to Vegas three weeks from today, but if work permits, I might swing over to tunica for one more warm up round before hitting the Strip. If I do, it would be a solo trip this time and I am considering trying a live TR (haven't done one since last May) for that jaunt. I know its Tunica, not Vegas, so there won't be nearly as much interest, but if folks are interested in reading a gambling-centric live TR from there, let me know and I will try to do it.

Awesome comeback...sucks that you bet dark side when the guy makes 11 passes!!! WTH! I have wet dreams about 11 passes! I have never rolled 11 passes...ever!

Awesome comeback once again...sometimes you just have to go for it!

I for one would love to see more gambling centric TRs...

Thanks Nate! Reading your TR is inspiring me to write a shorter one myself. I think if I do make the quick jaunt back to Tunica, I will write one up while I am there!

I have only seen 11+ pass lines three times, including this past weekend. It was a killer!! But at least my friend won. That roll made it a winning weekend for him too

I'm always up for a Tunica (or Vegas) trip report!

Interesting how there is more Tunica talk on this Vegas board than there is on the Tunica board!

lol, I didn't even know there was a Tunica board!

I like reading TRs wherever they are from. With Tunica, though, you know its going to be gambling-centric. Of course, my host did try to give us tickets to the Grand Funk Railroad concert Saturday night! Ummmmm, we passed :Þ

Wow that was a nice run back up to even!

I hear you on the craos table. Last time we stopped off in Biloxi I got to the craps table not more than 2 min too late to bet the fire bet...of course the dude hits all 6 to the fire that would have won me 5k! He still had a hell of a roll hitting the 4 like crazy and won about $1500 from my initial $320 across.

Looking forward to more TRs, both Vegas and Tunica are fine by me. We'll be in Vegas on the 16th to whenever we decide to leave. If we are still there when you get there we'll have to get together for some baccarat.
