Monte Carlo or NYNY

I am attending a conference at MGM in early June. It looks like the bossman wants to keep the 4 night hotel stay (4 nights, Sunday check-in, Thursday check-out) to about $400. I will be expensing it so it isn't an option to book cheap and keep the extra like a per diem. With the conference at MGM, I was thinking Excalibur, NYNY, and Monte Carlo. I have ruled out Excalibur unless I book a nicer room there so I am between NYNY and Monte Carlo.

Which would you pick?

Monte Carlo High Floor Deluxe with $50 resort credit
or
NYNY with 2 buffets (or barfets?)

I would choose Monte Carlo over NY/NY, especially a high floor with a view. Monte Carlo has some great fine dining
like Andre's, and a food court for lunch. The PUB is great for drinks and a game, and the Tram near the Pub is great to go back up to Bellagio.

 

Having only stayed at NYNY, I would absolutely recommend Monte Carlo. The base rooms at NYNY are, let's say, in keeping with the resort's theme: they're damn small. And I'm pretty sure that those buffets will be for MGM Grand, since NYNY doesn't have its own buffet, and although it's right across the street, that's still an extra hassle.

 

Thanks for the comments. One thing that kept me from booking Monte Carlo at first was the walk being a bit longer in the mornings. The conference is 8a to 5p with dinners and cocktail receptions after. Monte Carlo having a poker room is another plus. NYNY is intriguing to me for some reason though. Thanks again for the comments and I look forward to more.

 

I will say that I like NYNY's casino a bit more (less so after the de-theming, but it's still pretty nice), they have decent restaurants, and the fish and chips at their food court is quite good as well. But honestly, the room I had there was terrible, and that was supposedly an "upgrade"; not only was it tiny, and the walk from the elevator interminable, but there was only a single standard double-hung window, looking over their fairly-small pool area. Maybe I'm spoiled by the rooms at every other casino in town, but it seemed like a smaller version of my own apartment, except with no kitchen and less natural light.

 

The walk might not be as long as you think. See you're thinking MGM Grand's front door. However, if you exit out of the Diablo side of Monte Carlo, go across the street then continue straight, you are headed to MGM Grand's conference center.

Keep in mind the conference center is far back from the main entrance.

To left where it shows Hard Rock Café (there's really an ABC Store there) is where you'll cross once leaving the Diablo exit (you'll pass Minus 5 Ice Bar in Monte Carlo). You continue down that very "street" toward the conference center.

You'll have a BETTER walk from the Monte Carlo and stay in a better property with links to City Center. I think you can go inside just after the white building in the middle of the map and cross over to the conference center.

Either way, shorter walk or about the same.

 

MC gets my vote.

 

I've stayed at both and have to say MC for sure. NYNY rooms were pretty small and dark. The casino is a bit better but the MC is easy to get around and I really like the Pub. If you want fancy, you can easily walk to the Aria without evening going outside. The walk to MGM is pretty fast and easy.

 

MC, no contest. Nicer everything.

 

I would say MC for lodging purposes but I do find something endearing about the NYNY casino. The MC casino is about as vanilla as it gets.

 

NYNY is more fun

I’ve stayed at NYNY four times, MC twice. From strictly a fun perspective, NYNY is my clear choice. Sure, it’s smaller, noisier, grungier, and more crowded, but this is largely because of the NY theme – I actually appreciate their attempts at authenticity. MC just seems too bland and generic for my tastes. That being said, it’s a 2 minute walk between properties so it’s easy to experience both worlds and hang out where you feel most comfortable.

 

For an extra 100.00 bucks you could just stay at the MGM Grand right where your conference is and get the brand new, newly remodeled executive king room. Much better hotel than the other two and right there for when you want to just roll out of bed in the morning last minute and head to the meeting. Heck if your going to gamble at all you might generate enough in primary comps and express comps to pay the difference from what the boss is covering. Unless you're skating by in life paycheck to paycheck then it's a no brainer. Pony up a hundo and just stay at the MGM.

 

The funny thing is, depending where his room is, he'll still have to walk a country mile to get to the conference center.

At least he'll be inside and you're right, it's a $100 difference, that's chump change.

Seems like it is in the $550-$600 range for MGM. I am not a big fan of their casino as it is but wouldn't mind staying there on the companies dime obviously. The cheapest rate I was was $98/night, plus $25 per night, plus 12%. I could get them to swing that but I think staying elsewhere would fit my tastes better.

 

Planet Holloywood is my favorite casino when it comes to the strip but they're pricey for my dates. I'd rather swing the extra cash on P-Ho over MGM.

 

Yea, so many choices. P Ho is on my list to try too.

Have stayed there in standard rooms and in strip suite. Both were nice. Me gusta.
