I just dropped a night off a couple of CET reservations for June.

First, on the original reservations they required what they called a 100% "deposit" for all three nights including tax, even though the reservations are fully refundable and even a less than 72 hour cancellation only results in a one-night charge.

Second, they are refusing to credit back the amount of the night that's been dropped, saying they will refund the amount overpaid at the front desk in June. When I pressed why, I was told because it was a special "package." When I pointed out that there is nothing in the package except a room, I was told the reason was because it was a special promotion that's "probably" no longer available.

I just checked, and the same promotion at the same rates is still available. So I guess I can fully cancel the original reservations and make new ones. But that of course means that CET would have two sets of deposits, and I am just wondering how much work it will require to get any of it refunded in a prompt fashion.

I've only ever had to pay 1 night up front with CET. It's getting frustrating to do anything with them.

Caesars Entertainment Corp. just released earnings for the year, it lost $11.95 a share and the book value is minus $3.20 per share.

I'd say it needs every dollar it can get its hands on, your deposit is an interest free loan, hope you are not carrying a balance on your credit card. Render unto Caesar your 100% refundable deposit before your vacation begins.

You have been to Vegas 90 times. I assume you have booked all kinds of promos, and packages. And, assume you have often paid a deposit.

    Are we missing something here?

I would have said at that point, in my best fake Brooklyn accent, "Oh yah? I got your special package right here."

Here's a dramatization of what CET is doing and maybe that will help. (I've simplified my situation to show a single reservation instead of two different room reservations for the same nights and used big round numbers.)

CET: So that will be $100 per night with taxes for six nights, or $600 total.

    ME: OK.

CET: It's fully refundable if you cancel 72 or hours more before the stay. If not, we will charge you one night, or $100.

    ME: OK.

CET: So I'm charging your credit card $600 now.

    ME: What?

CET: Well, you're booking a package and we require a 100% deposit on packages.

    ME: What's in the package?

    CET: Your room.

    .... LATER

ME: I need to drop two of the six nights on my reservation.

    CET: No problem, done.

ME: So you will refund $200 of the deposit back to my credit card?

    CET: Why of course not.

    ME: Why not?

CET: Because you booked a package.

    ME: It's just a room.

    CET: That's right.

ME: So you're going to keep my $600, even thought the total for my entire stay is now only $400.

    CET: That's right.

ME: How do I get my money back?

CET: The front desk will process that for you when you are here in June.

    ME: You're kidding.

CET: No, it's all quite normal and ordinary.

Comical. I'll stay with MGM, or Wynn, for now. Most that I have ever had was a 1 night deposit, no matter length of trip. What a way to "run a business".

Vegas is becoming more frustrating as the time passes. I go for gambling, shopping (for the wife), & decent food. All the shows are stale & not worth going to. Do they really need another cirque?

Now that the casinos openly show their disdain for gamblers, & favor the club crowd. I'm not sure how many more visits I have in me.

Well yea sometimes you book these packages and they have strange terms.

Also yea, really, with the resort fee, who needs CET properties anymore. The MGM ones are all so much nicer and well maintained.

But are they still more expensive?

Yes, MGM hotels are more expensive, but, with the addition by CET of resort fees, they have raised the daily rate of their rooms. This will move some people to do MGM since their properties seem to be a step up - sometimes.

You get what you pay for. The price differential is nominal in most cases.

We say that MGM properties are far superior but I'd say the top three CET properties (Caesars, PH, Paris) are "nicer" than places like Monte Carlo, NYNY, and arguably Mirage and MGM. The higher end MGM properties, however, blow away all CET properties.

I'm staying at 2 CET properties (May/Nov.). I have both my rooms comped and don't pay resort fees. Thank you, and goodnight.

CET is going to start charging a resort fee.
CET has some of the worst BJ rules in Vegas (6:5)
CET charges you an "early check-in" fee
CET's rating of table game players is terrible for comps compared to slot players
CET recently raised the tier levels for platinum, diamond & 7 stars
CET has eliminated their Visa Card total rewards program

----- And why should I be staying at a CET property??????--------

Maybe the package was the special rate on the room? So since considered a package they won't refund until the stay and that does suck. But you said it is still listed for the same price so why not cancel the whole reservation and rebook or book elsewhere?

It's Feb. 26, just 2 days left. There are many people out there who will be going to Vegas and have plans already but haven't booked yet if they're staying at a CET property. My timer is for these people.
I have stayed at CET properties for the last 7 or 8 years because of it's central location and more recently because of MGM/Mirage resort fees. I usually get comped or partially comped at CET. But when i return in May i will start putting points on my MLife card and even the balance. Monte Carlo was my favorite hotel for many years since it's opening. But now things have changed, when i go into MGM/Mirage etc. in May i will gamble part of my bankroll. So when the offers start appearing, i will look at both CET and MGM/Mirage once again.

Still thinking about rebooking before resort fees takes effect, but then I would have to fork out more money upfront while waiting for CET to credit the initial reservation. Just hesitating a bit b/c they're already clinging to an overpayment and I'm now wondering if it will take a fight to get it back.

Wondering where you saw the fees will be charged on comp rooms--I did see something that said they would not be charged--very confusing
