Staying downtown...going to the STRIP everyday, how?

    Well,

I have rooms booked at the Flamingo for May long weekend (May 16-20 for $250...before the prices spiked and before the resort fee thing came up), but no flights yet. There are good flight prices but my brother can't get his boss to approve the time off work quite yet. My fear is that by the time he gets the approval the flight prices will be too high.

So we are trying another method. Looking at alternate dates, and then him approaching his boss and just asking, 'which is better'.

The alternate dates are May 23 - May 27.

I don't have any comps with CET and my rates when I sign in are only $3 less per night than a non TR card holder (though I can probably get a better rate with their 'Semi Annual' sale.

For the alternate dates I can't get rates around $250 for the 4 nights (May 23 we would stay at the GN and hopefully the strip for the rest).

This leaves me in a place where my only affordable option might be to stay downtown the whole time. For me, downtown is fun for 1 night but I don't want to spend my whole trip there). But through Alliegant I can get a package for Downtown that works with my budget.

If I were to stay downtown...how am I going to get to the strip and back each day? I don't want a rental car because I want to be able to drink. I don;t need to go back and forth to the hotel multiple times a day.

I should add that I can stay at the QUAD on a package with Alliegant on May 24-24 for an affordable price...should I try that? Will I hate it? Can I use the flamingo poll if I stay at the QUAD?

If you are more of a strip person it would probably be better for you to stay on the strip. Would be kind of a pain to commute between downtown and the strip, either better to pay a little more to stay on the strip or just stay at the quad.

There have been many negative comments about the quad but I think the quad is probably similar to most of the downtown hotels (except GN). Better to stay near where you will be most of your stay IMHO.

The bus is another alternative when staying downtown but it will be a pain if you have to do it every day just to get to your regular haunts.

How much do you care about your room? There might be some other options close to the strip, like Hooters, where you could easily walk it.

Have you checked rates for the Orleans and/or Gold Coast? Both offer a shuttle to the strip and aren't so far away that you couldn't cab it a couple of times if the shuttle schedule didn't work for you.

The room is not worth much to me, it's me and my brother (32 and 28).

We do like hitting the pool in the morning - so we are thinking of Quad and using Flamingo pool...can I?

Hooters is $300 extra. I could get the flight and hotel of Quad for $300 less. Thoughts?

Sorry, I have no thoughts. I've been in hooters, never been in the quad

My thought... Definitely don't pay a premium to stay at Hooter's over the Quad.

I think that if you are a Strip person, you would be happier at the Quad. I prefer to stay downtown and I take the bus daily. Not a hassle. If not in a hurry the Deuce leaves from LV Blvd every 10 minutes or so. Or you can catch the WAX and be at NYNY in abut 25 minutes, or take the SDX to the Convention center or several strip hotels without all the stops of the Deuce. You can buy a bus pass to save money. Thw WAX and SDX leave from Casino Drive by Fremont and Binions.

the quad has it's own pool. I doubt if you will be able to get into the flamingo pool but you never know

Stay at Stratosphere and be in middle of strip and DT. Plus it is decent and cheap.

I would second this. It's been a while since I've been to Vegas but I've stayed at The STRAT my last 5-6 strips. Never had a problem walking around as others mentioned, but also found the bus easy to ride (not yet full from people on the strip)and a cab ride is cheap as long as you don't go all the way to Mandalay Bay.

The rooms were always clean, the showers works, and the food was decent. I've never paid more than $31 for a standard room, and the resort fee isn't terrible being $10.

By time you pay for bus, taxi and your wasted time - it is going to cost you way more to stay somewhere you do not care to be. Doesn't make sense to me.

I honestly don't see how you can stay anywhere and avoid busses or taxis. The strip is what, 3 miles long? Most people who walk wind up going one way then catching a ride back, especially if heat and or drinking is involved. The difference for me in a hotel mid strip or south strip (besides Ballys where I am staying) would have been roughly $30-$40 a night. No way a buss pass or a tax ride costs that much.

I thought you could use other CET pools free of charge, no?

if you stay downtown you can take the Wax bus that is an express bus straight down to TI each day. It runs multiple times an hour, picks you up right outside binions nad drops you off down by the walgreens! I believe it also stops down by NYNY as well. I think an all day pass is like $7, but maybe Dewey or someone else will know the exact price for sure.

If you stay at the strat you also have the option of using the tram that is right across the street behind the old Sahara. Its like 20+ for all you can ride for 3 days.

I used to be like you were, I only wanted to visit DT for 1 day or less, but as I have started staying down there, rarely do we even want to go out to the strip any more.

I love to read stories from others that try to stay or spend time downtown and find that they prefer it.
