I looked around and could not find this information, but I may be in the wrong place.

My husband and I are going to Vegas next month and would like to rent a car for a day to drive out to the Hoover Dam. We are staying at the Hilton Grand at the end of the strip and just need the car for the our last full day in town. We will be back by the evening to go to dinner and to see a Cirque show. Any advice on where to rent a car for the day and other information we may need?

    Thanks!

There is a car rental desk at The STRAT (Budget) and one at the Venetian (Avis), but neither is really close. Have you considered just renting from the airport location for the full trip? It will save you the cost of transfers and make it easier getting around. If there's time between arrival and check in or checkout and departure you can lock your bags in th car instead if being tethered to the hotel bell desk.

There's a Dollar Rental at the Treasure Island, and you can pre-book online, which is usually cheaper than just showing up cold at the counter.

By the time that we add the $8 a day parking fee, it is not worth renting a car for the entire trip.

Enterprise will pick you and drop you off when you are finished.

    Advantage rent a car

We ( 5 of us ) are renting a van from above for the week for $350. Sounds like alot, however there are 5 of us, and one day we are going out to the dam dam ( get it? ), and Lake mead cruise, etc. Another day we are going to RR canyon, and other sites in the opposite direction of the dam dam . All in all, $350 is a great price to pay IMHO. Just a limo for 5 from the airport RT might cost half that.

For the OP, if there's just two of you, consider a bus trip. That's how my wife and I went to the dam...the tour price included the ride and the admission. It was under $100 for two, and they picked us up at our hotel.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but if you are out by Lake Mead, head up to Valley of Fire, it is worth the trip.

Agreed. There's an Enterprise at 3401 West Sahara Avenue that's 2-and-a-half miles from your hotel. That should be well within their neighborhood to pick you up and drop you back off.

Just remember that it's not open 24 hours a day like the airport, so you might have to rent the night before if you're planning on leaving early in the morning (or return the car the next morning if you're not going to be back by closing time).

Neighborhood Avis locations do as well.

I've used the neighborhood Enterprises and found them superior to the airport locale in terms of service.

I did not think any of the Vegas casinos charged for parking.

But, even so, compared to lots of taxi charges, it may well make sense to get the car for all week.

(need to clarify where you are staying)

My original post does state that we are staying at the Hilton Grand at the end of the strip. It is not a casino.

Many of the MGM properties have AVIS Car rental facilities inhouse. There is one at The Mirage, which is walkable from where you are staying. You could pick up and drop off at this location:

You have to go through Boulder City to get to Hoover Dam, and I would definitely advise a quick stop in the center of town. There are several places where you can get a bite to eat (such as Milo's Cellar, which I really like: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60881-d614982-Reviews-Milo_s_Cellar-Boulder_City_Nevada.html) and there are also a bunch of very cool shops for you to browse in.
