I always thought so. Golden Arm club and all that.

But I went in The Californian for the first time this week. I looked at the crap tables.
DOUBLE ODDS?!!!! Come on! You can get a better game on a cruise ship for gawd's sake.

I really was shocked. THIS is the famous crap place? I was also shocked that I haven't seen more discussion about that strange thing on the Vegas boards.

I was staying at Main Street Station. 20X odds. So much better. I never played at 20, but I was very comfortable playing at 10X odds.

You have to have a golden arm to make any money at 2 times craps.

I wonder if in the long run, the Cal came out ahead on the infamous "golden arm" roll that set the world record? I mean how many people since then have played craps at the Cal only because of that one roll? All that extra play has had to recoup whatever they lost there and then some right?

Slightly off-topic, but do cruise ships offer more than 2X? I can remember 1X several years ago, but they bumped it up to double. But... even more now? Going on a cruise in June and would love more than 2X. As for the California, I don't get it either. I love the MSS much better, if for anything the atmosphere.

I've been on two cruises. Both paid 2x only.

As with any place they try to hype the good things that go on. The Cal's claim to fame is the golden arm club. If you roll over 1 hour you get to belong to the golden arm club and get your name on a plaque located on the 2nd floor walkway between the MSS and the Cal. Every year they have a reunion and I think a tournament or game with only golden arm members. While the fremont might have a similar board of winners (all games) I don't think many other casinos hype up a golden arm thing. The mystique is to play there so you get to be a golden arm member. I have a friend who has 3 plaques on the wall so he is a platinum arm member. I played with him and he doesn't do anything different, guess he is just lucky.

I also prefer to play at MSS but I will play where I win, and that includes the fremont where they only have 2x odds also but IMHO I have a better chance of getting comps at the fremont.

but then you see the hype all over, especially with the casinos where someone won things like the megabucks or wheel of fortune (I notice that the fremont has a number of WOF winners and they hype that too).

the golden arm came to be because of one hawaii guy that threw the dice for 3 hours. I think in that situation it didn't matter if it was 2x odds as everybody was winning a lot.

my best there was a few years ago at about 3 am. there were only about 6 guys on the table, we were up all night because our flight was leaving early and bag pull was at 4:30 (no sense going to sleep so just trying to kill time). I rolled for 45 minutes but because it was empty the rolls went quickly. The dealers said that if it were in the evening or during the day my roll probably would have been over an hour long with all the people and bets. Too bad they don't count that towards the golden arm club lol.

The Cal is very popular with Hawaiians who are reportedly the world's most enthusiastic dice players.

I've never played there but would like to some day.
I can live with double odds if the vibe is right!

I don't necessarily think the Cal has done a great job of promoting the Golden Arm Club. I only hear about it through word of mouth. We are the ones promoting the casino.

I like how the Fremont has a roll counter on the table. It helps make stories more accurate. A buddy and I bought into a table at roll 16. She went 46 rolls without a seven. That helps to keep come bets up, thank you very much. The fact that it was our first buyin of the trip was cool to play on house money for a while.
