Hi, I'm Greg Smith from the little town of Grottoes, VA (near Harrisonburg). I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and a big steelers, penguins, pirates fan!

I'm a truck driver and have been by truck ten times or more to Las Vegas and it's one of my favorite locations. I usually would park at Wild Wild West and walk across to strip. I drive locally now so sadly don't get there.

My wife Cindy has family there in Henderson and we are planning our first actual "vacation" there in the middle of April this year.

I would appreciate any tips on what to see where to stay and best food deals (love buffets) but we are on a tight budget so want best can get at good price..........we will be staying five days+

Thanks and glad to meet you all!

Glad you guys are going to get to vaca together and hope you have a barrel of fun. There is plenty to do and see there that isn't gambling related. Where would you like to stay Greg?

Since this is a long-awaited vaca...staying somewhere rather mid-strip may afford you the easiest way to enjoy all that the strip has to offer. There are some really good deals if you check out all the info posted in the hotel & frugal sections on this board. Also post specific likes / dislikes so vets can chime in with suggestions. If you REALLY like buffets, you may want to do the buffet of buffets which lets you eat 24 hours at any CET property buffet. If you time it right - you can get 4 meals in during that time frame. It can be a really good deal and there are 6-7 different buffets to try out. There are deals with CET & Mlife properties and everyone on here has their favs. What is most important to you and what is an estimate of your budget?

When you make that hotel decision...then sort out what you would like to see...heck - just walking the strip and checking out the many casinos is an adventure for a newbie. :) There are also some free coupons online that many use.

Hope you have a wonderful time and post anything you want info on. P.S....we're big Steelers fans here in Hoosier Land too!!!

Thanks for the help so far! We are planning on getting a rental car too so not sure if better to stay off of strip or not? I stayed in Excalibur years ago and see can get some good deals there and at circus circus too. I don't mind the older casino hotels if rooms are nice and clean since won't be spending lots of time there.

Was looking for other good food deals around town too.... Heard Ellis Island was good? Also want to see the pawn stars shop and ricks restoration from tv. Are any of the "locsls" hotels hood to stay at?

Hey gregsmith. Welcome aboard from a fellow Virginian (just a few hours down 81 from you, in Blacksburg).

We’ve got a great board here – there’s a ton of combined knowledge and folks are usually quite friendly and helpful. So, just ask questions…someone here will have the info you’re looking for.

Best of luck in April…looks like I’ll be out there a few weeks before you.

Ellis serves a great cheap breakfast. I eat it every time we go on the first morning. Also try http://www.blueberryhillrestaurants.com/locations.php Circus Circus and Excalibur will surely be on the cheaper side for y'all but whether you get a good clean room....????.... well it is Vegas! Local hotel/motel will have to be someone else on here to help you.
