Worst Room You Ever Stayed In?

So a few posts got me thinking...what is the worst room you have ever stayed in?

For me it was when I was 21yrs old and my 2nd trip to Vegas. I drove out to Vegas with my boyfriend (now ex) and his parents. The first night we stayed at the Monte Carlo since we drove in to Vegas late so crashed in his parents room..that they had upgraded about 3 different times from complaining about everything.

The last 3 nights BF and I had to get our own room and only could afford a room at what was a HoJo behind the Excalibur, across the highway and across from In-N-Out. I believe we paid about $10 a night and no resort fee (LMAO)

That place was SCARY, it was dark, couldn't tell how clean it was because even in the daylight it was so dark, we also asked for no housekeeping while we were there. Our room was the end of the hall on the first floor and going down that hall was like something out of a horror movie. The walk to and from the strip was ok since it was along the highway..just watch out for the under pass behind Excalibur..lol

The only good thing about that trip was my dad flew in for a meeting the 2nd night so I ditched the BF and went to dinner with my dad and his coworkers...drank a ton, went downtown to gamble, dad gave me $50 to play at BJ (first time playing) and I walked away with $150 after hours of drinking and playing.

Boy was that an experience but an experience that I can now look back at and laugh and just shake my head, especially when I go grab In-N-Out and drive right by that crazy run down hotel.

A few years ago, I decided to stay at the Las Vegas Club for two nights.

The room offer said VIP checkin. When I approached the front desk ( which was almost in the parking garage), there was a single bored clerk. I asked him where VIP checkin was. He said, "here".

It was about noon, and I asked to get my room. "Nope. Not before 3".

Oh, okay. Glad I got the VIP treatment.

Finally checking in, I was treated to one of those small, slow elevators that make you look for the alarm button -- and wonder who, if anybody, will respond.

I shall not go into details about the frayed rug, and dysfunctional lamps.

But I remember that there was not a single bar of soap in the bathroom, just a liquid soap dispenser, and a typed sign that said, " If you need bar soap, please ask at front desk ".

Soap at front desk? Now that is the VIP treatment!

Did I have a good time? Heck, yes! Loved it! Would do it again in a heartbeat, but now I get great free room offers elsewhere.

 

For me the worst had to be the Circus Circus Manor... some little buildings behind Circus Circus... this was about 7 years ago and it had the deep red shag carpet from the 70's. You know the kind the vacuum can't get down into. The little round table in the corner had one broken chair, instead of a couple and the swag lamp that was supposed to hang over the table had the hook ripped outta the ceiling and was laying on the table. The bed was AWFUL... I could feel every spring! Fortunately, it was a one night deal. I got stuck there, because my meeting went long, so had to spend the night and it was during one of the big conventions... my assistant made the late reservation and figured, "Circus Circus, how bad could it be?" One of the girls from my office was with me and I called her to ask how her room was and she said her's had the chalk outline of a body on the floor"... she has a great sense of humor!"

I also stayed at the Plaza once in the late 90's and that was no picnic either, the door was a hollow-core door, like the kind closets have and was partially off the hinge,
so I had to lift up on the handle to get it to close and even then the space between the bottom of the door and the floor was like 4 inches!

Arizona Charlie's on Decatur was no luxury stop either... the entire place, even when you showered reeked of smoke and though I haven't stayed there, I've been to the rooms at Las Vegas Club and the Imperial Palace to pick up friends... Ughhhhhhh... though I did used to like to play at the Las Vegas Club a bit.

Fortunately, I've had several promotions since then and have a better per-diem package.

 

Personally, Imperial Palace. It really was/is? a dump.

We went into my brothers buddys room a couple times in Luxor, and to be quite honest, that place wasn't much better than IP.

 

The Hilton now known as the LVH. Went in the bathroom and turned on the lights.....roaches everywhere! I hate LVH so much now. I don't have a positive thing to say about the dump

 

The only complaint I have had is when I stayed at the MGM. I forget the exact name of the tower, but it wasn't where all the elevates are, it was the tower on the west side of the elevates. Not the west wing rooms. I know they had just remolded the rooms, but the carpet was FILTHY! I noticed it when entering the room, but the check-in guy told me they were short of my type of rooms at that time(WC room). I warned my wife not to walk barefoot in the room, and get all the cr@p in her feet. The room was a comp, so I couldn't complain. It was 1-307, in that tower I mentioned.

 

Easy, the Sahara. It didn't help that I was sick, but the room was tiny, lumpy bed, and a horrible tv. so happy we only stayed there for one night

 

Las Vegas Club, about 6 years ago, got it for free so I cant complain. The mirror in the bathroom was about as big as a ladies pocketbook compact mirror. My wife was throwing a fit trying to get ready in it. The bathroom is about the size of a closet and it didnt have a door for some unknown reason. Place looked like something out of the 1960's, which I am sure was the last time it was updated! I loved the time we had, and would do it all over again as well. I like nice places, but when in Vegas I could care less if I sleep on a bust stop bench, its Vegas!

 

Ditto on the Circus Circus Manor.

It was the late 80s. We came in late and took what we could get. There must have been three or four families in the room beside us. The walls were thin and every so often they'd start fighting. We were out of there early the next day.

 

Many years back, we stayed a couple nights of our trip at the Golden Gate ... front corner end room (Fremont & Main Sts.) on the 4th floor. The sink was plugged up (I fixed it with a coat-hanger), and the shower was scary looking. After that experience, Binion's Horseshoe was dreamy.

 

This one is tough to say... I can say that the worst room we had was a standard room at The Fremont.

I say its "tough to say" because the room really wasn't that bad: we had low expectations to begin with, the room was small with a tiny bathroom and just overall if I ranked all our rooms in order from best to worst this is the one that would be at the bottom of the list, but I would stay there again.

The one I would say I was most disappointed in was the "GO Luxury with View" room at Flamingo. You could tell the room and the hotel was a dump, just being a "GO" room it was a dressed up dump.

 

Travelodge on the strip. Was worried the entire night that someone was going to break through the window -- anyone could walk right up to the room. I always picture this room as the room where Stu Ungar died.

 

Four Queens south tower smoking room. The vents were covered with months worth of black tar, the air conditioning didn't work and we couldn't open the window because it was directly over the 3rd street bandstand. My wife will never stay there again, so I guess it's just as well that they've stopped sending us free room offers. They also have the worst valet parking service, which is too bad because the rest of the staff is friendly and efficient.

 

Imperial Palace!

 

That would be The Oasis Motel on LV Blvd, just north of The STRAT and across from the Burger King. It makes the Circus Circus Manor look like the Wynn. The City pulled their license late last year, but they're hoping to reopen later this week. In time for Valentine's Day!

 

The runaway winner for me is the Ogden House, which is now ElCo Cabana Suites. Nothing else is even close and I've stayed at the IP, Sahara, CC and the Gold Spike before the remodel

 

Binons. booked for 5 nights and I had a friend joining me - but as it turned out not until the following day.

late flight in so I go to binions about midnight and they had one room left. In the original binions above the casino. no chance to change hotels but I could get moved the following day. so I followed the direction and went along the corridor, left a bit right etc etc - it was a maze. I opened the room and it was more like a closet...

it just fitted the bed in with room for one cabinet.
I dumped my bag and as I'd got confused on the journey there I thought I'd have a look out of the window to figure out where I was.

I opened the curtains - and there were the shutters!!!!
I opened them and there was.. the sign - I was right behind the Binions sign on Fremont. Even in full daylight the room would have been lit like a 50's detective movie.

I weighted up my opinions, closed the shutter and the curtain and headed downstairs and drank and gambled. I did get a little sleep later but by 10am I was standing at the desk gettign transferred to the delights of the Mint tower that has minor things like 2 beds, a bathroom and windows that daylight came through........

on the bright side I was on a deal where the 5 nights at the hotel costs a total of $10.

 

First time staying at the Westward Ho. The door had scratches, chips, etc. around the lock area indicating a recent break-in. I remember the bed was not that comfortable. Dirty and dingy!

Second time at the Westward Ho was much better. (It was about the only thing available at a decent rate for a spur of the moment weekend trip.) I was expecting a rat-hole, but the room was recently re-done and the door closed securely. LOL, only thing I remember that was upsetting was that our room was right at the top of the stairway and drunks coming in late seemed to always run right into it. (Bang! {curse!})

 

Strangely enough it was the Flamingo. Had horrible carpet and the beds had hair all over the sheets. Bad thing was my kids came with me on this one.

 

Imperial palace.

It was a last minute booking and saved me over 100 bucks for 1 night, so I don't regret it. But I was very happy to move to Harrah's the next day.

It wasn't dirty, but the bed wasn't comfortable, the bathroom left much to be desired, and most importantly it was December and they don't have central thermostats. Come back to the room and its freezing. Turn on their antiquated heater, and of course wake up sweating 3 hours later.
