Did I give enough specifics? We'll be in Vegas for work next week. I have a few options picked out already. We're doing a trade show at Sands, staying at TI. I do not like chains and prefer to eat at places I don't have at home (though since I rarely eat out, that doesn't so much make a difference - I just prefer individuality in a restaurant...That said, we'll probably do Grand Lux for breakfast because it's open early, not too expensive, and we've never been)

In that geographic area (Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Fashion Show Mall, TI, Mirage) and in the medium price range ($15-20 for entree - cheaper, sure! But not fast food) what would you recommend?

Places I already have on my list include Public House (for the beer, and probably appetizers because they aren't cheap), Ra Sushi, Cravings Buffet (have that 2 for 1 with beer/wine coupon from a few weeks ago), probably Grimaldis pizza the day we arrive.

I don't love beef so would not go out of my way for a steakhouse or "gourmet" burger place. Adore seafood, but the two of us-- we'll eat almost anything. Thanks for suggestions!

We've had enjoyable and relatively inexpensive meals at the places listed below.

    At the Fashion Show :

El Segundo Sol, Maggianos's Little Italy (chains store but not a bad choice)

    At Wynn Las Vegas:

    Drugstore Cafe, Zoozacrackers Deli

At Cravings, be aware that the crab legs are chilled, but they will steam them for you.
Actually, the seafood selection, though not large, will be to your liking - a somewhat healthier approach to it.

It's been many years since we've gone to a buffet in Vegas, and I have to say I am looking forward to it. We're saving it for the day the trade show ends:peace:

Of course, like you chef, I've been eating healthier and have lost 50lbs this year, so I'm also terrified of "unlimited" choices :confused2:

Thanks for that rec - I saw it online and wondered if it is any good, since I rarely hear it mentioned....

that is a tough neck of the woods to hit that price range, you can probably find some menu items that fit, but then if you add an after work drink, the establishments tend to make their margin back up there.

dinner at table 10, which is an emeril restaurant, might fit with some menu selectivity, i recall michelle having a soup or salad and a coconut shrimp appy as her entree. it is up the escalator at palazzo, and then to the back of the mall there.

charcuterie plate at bouchon, and maybe their herb roasted chicken feature, might hit the high end too, but still lot less money that many other options.

have fun, we will miss you by about a week. hope your business at the trade show goes well!

I wouldn't bother with Public House. It's all the way at the other end of the strip (Luxor) and the quality and preparation of the food was very poor for the prices. My mussels were dried out (meaning they spent some time under a heat lamp or in an oven) and my salmon was overcooked (only the center was edible. They had a decent beer selection, but I don't think that makes it a destination either. There are other beer bars in Vegas.

A little outside your geography you can get a cheap steak dinner (off menu 7.99 special) at Ellis Island which is quite good.

No, we're going to Public House at Venetian - the one with the awesome beer list and first cicerone in NV:thumbsup: Many board members tried it in October and gave me good reviews....

Also hoping to go for dim sum brunch on Sunday (or Hash House a go go, depending on who wins that discussion) and pho over on Spring Mtn - I've noted Westie's recommendations from past trips of Pho Kim Long:thumbsup:

May I suggest Weera Thai We have been there several times and have enjoyed every trip. It isn't on the strip but it is a short bus trip along Sahara to Decatur area. Well worth it in my opinion. I actually prefer it to Lotus of Siam.

I was one of the people raving about Public House at Venetian. It wasn't cheap, but I had the Short Rib there and the whole table voted that it was "to die for". I just looked it up on the link you provided:

    Short Rib $29
    “Deschutes Black Butte Porter” braised,
Sweet Pea Potato Puree, IPA battered onion rings

I am usually pretty cheap with my food choices, but this was worth EVERY penny. I'm not a beer drinker, but was pretty impressed with the fact that the drinks menu was so huge it came on an iPad and I don't think we saw anywhere near all of it.

Thanks to Kikky for insisting I join the group!

Have been to Peppermill many times. Have eaten at Border Grill too - but it's way out of the way for Sunday brunch since we'll be working at Sands on Sunday:peace:

I agree with the places mentioned... But also agree that it may be a bit tough with that price range esp. atthe strip houses.

I know you mentioned Grand Luxe, but keep in mind it has a fun happy hour drink/appetizers menu! We tried several of the appetizers, and they were all good. We liked Zine as well. Rattlecan was underwhelming.

Well, if we end up going to a more expensive place, I can deal with that - but since I haven't been to this end of the strip in a long time, it's nice to get input from you all:thumbsup: We've stayed downtown many times, south strip, and mid-strip, but have not stayed at this intersection since 2000 (Venetian - we got that $59 reblast rate in October 2000...) - and the last time we were north Strip was at Stardust in 2001:cry:

The reason I asked for places in such a tight geographic area is I know how exhausted I am at the end of a day working the trade show - I can barely haul my butt back to the room, so I know I won't go far for food:peace:

Now, I have to fit in the places I want to go for cocktails (from another thread) with where to get food:thumbsup:

If you find some good cocktails in that area, please let us know. I looked for good cocktails in several places, but had the best luck with the $5 Raspberry Cosmos at Grand Luxe in Palazzo.
