Plaza Advice Please

OK... so, I'm currently booked at Fremont for three nights (2 comped).
I just got a mailer from Plaza offering three comped nights + $20 in slot play. (The "resort fee" is also comped, FWIW).

Right now, my plan is to cancel my Fremont room and book the Plaza. It will be my first time staying there.

I know I've read a lot from some of you here about what rooms & towers to ask for, but rather than go hunting for them, perhaps y'all can offer up your opinions/advice here.

I seem to recall one of you posting that the rooms facing FSE were cool, and that it's possible that 'balcony' access may be available.
I also seem to remember that somebody said to ask for a room on a higher floor, toward the back.

Free is free, so I don't plan on being picky when I book...but there's never any harm in asking for a particular room, tower or floor.
Thoughts?

to the check in clerk at Plaza.
The guy laughed + upgraded me to a Fremont St. view ( room).
I looked right down the the street -- great view at night.

Everytime I've stayed there over the past two years, I've been in the North Tower. I think the rooms are very acceptable.

People bitch all the time about the casino, atmosphere, etc... but who cares?? You are downtown -- walk 2 mins and go to the GG, or wherever it is that floats your boat. It's not like being on the strip where you may have to walk an hour to get where you want to go.

Plaza has really decent food options. Oscar's is reasonable for a nice meal. Hash House is obviously good. And the food court provides quick options.

 

I had a balcony room last year. Cool view but ongodly loud until about midnight or so. bone rattlingly loud.

The rooms are very similar in the south vs the north tower.

The north tower costs a few bucks more becuase of the close proximity to the front doors.

Other then that not real difference.

I like the plaza and have stayed there a couple times since the reno in both towers.

I got an upgrade by "not" asking for one my last trip.

Everyone and their brother was asking the front desk girl and I was joiking with her about it and how it must drive them crazy so i intentonally didnt ask.

I pad for a south tower entry level room and got the north tower mini suite with balcony.

Sometimes it pays to not try so hard.

 

Plaza

I've stayed at the Plaza three times since the renovations. First time got a balcony room near the top floor facing Fremont. The only rooms with balconies, I think, are the ones in the north tower where the wings meet. These rooms are larger than others in addition to having the balcony.

Facing Fremont, as others note, has tradeoffs. The biggest negative is the noise. It is VERY LOUD when the stage across the street is going, which it does until 2:00 am some nights. I prefer the south tower, facing south, on the east end (farther from the railroad tracks). The rooms there are pretty quiet.

Each time I've stayed there they have been accommodating about my preference, even pulling out a floor map, showing me a room location, and asking if it would be OK. I don't care about an "upgrade," just a room where I can get some sleep when I want to. All three rooms I've had were very nice for the price.

 

ive always stayed in the south tower, usually higher floor rooms, great view of the strip if you are facing south and have a higher floor room!

I think I'll just be passive and let the front desk girl give me whatever she wants.

If she asks me, then I'll tell her I'd prefer a more-quiet room.

 

They have always accommodated us very well at the front desk, we asked for a high room last April and they gave us a room up on the 18th floor or so with a great view of the strip in the distance, couldnt have been happier with the room. We were in the South tower, which I also like because the elevator comes right down in the back of the casino. ONly bad part is rolling your luggage through the casino up to that room. I guess you could always use a bellhop, but we only take one large bag and a carryon so its no big deal for us!
