Paris vs Mirage

For the same total cost I can book either place for 5 nights in June. I've got a Mirage reservation set up to lock in my offer rate, but I can cancel or change at any time. Nothing specific drawing me to stay at either place, such as a show or convention. Anyone have some pros and cons or thoughts about which to do?

 

I would vote Mirage, cooler vibe and livelier Casino. Paris bores me. Don't forget about the resort fee Mirage will bang you for and make sure you factor that in. Nice thing about Paris is its so close to Bally's and PH, that is like a three in one.

 

I will state up front that I've never stayed at Paris. I've stayed at Mirage at couple times.

Things we like about Mirage (we being my wife and I). Check in is quick. Location is good for access to the Fashion Show Mall, which my wife appreciates. The beds and pillows are the best I've ever had. In fact, when we left there after our last trip, my wife asked how to buy the pillows and bought them for me for my birthday. I now sleep on that at my house.

I think the breakfast buffet (brunch, for us) is one of the most underrated buffets on the strip. I really enjoyed it and look forward to going back.

For the casino, they have really good video poker for the strip if you play $1 or $2. Drink service is hit and miss, so pick a good spot.

Things I don't care for at Mirage -- it's weird that you have to walk all the way through the casino carrying your bags to get to the elevator to the rooms. Food choices aren't the best.

For Paris, I've played in the casino. I don't like the layout. But I do like the video poker bar that has the slushy drinks, fully comped even playing quarters. I don't drink them, but my wife loved the pina coladas. But the chairs were the wrong height, which was kind of annoying. Jersey Boys is probably the best show I've seen in Vegas, which was why I was in Paris in the first place.

 

The total cost is room plus resort fee and taxes for Mirage and the room rate via TR.com for Paris.
I'm not a fan of Bally's, but it is in a great spot and I like PH. It's going to come down to location vs the actual hotel I think. Still weighing those against each other. Thanks Ron!

 

Thanks for the input. I've wanted to stay at both places, so I probably will eventually do both.
Location is a big part of the Paris appeal, being right in the middle of the strip. I like the casino being bright and the craps are usually cheaper in there, I've found.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about splitting nights on the trip, either.

 

If you are watching the TR website, keep watching it, it has swung wildly the last week or so. It typically does, I will go from a week of COMP at Flamingo or Ballys for example to being charged and them back to COMP.

 

Mirage is not a good place for cheap craps, especially on weekends. They never go below $10, and I've seen minimums go to $15 (a lot) and $25 (once) when it was busy.

The location isn't bad, as the Wynn is walkable, and so is Caeasar's, TI, and Venetian, which give you a lot of variety. Not as good as the Paris location, but better than you might think.

 

Location is a funny comparison because they both have advantages. Paris has Bally's, PHo, across from Bellagio, closer to Aria than Mirage, obviously. Mirage has Venetian, which is great for restaurants, Wynn. If you're a heavy Wynncore and Venetian/Palazzo fan then that is a winner. But Paris has more casinos near it.

I've stayed at both but stayed at Mirage more recently. Room wise I think Mirage wins, just a little newer. Food-wise, Paris itself is the clear winner, not even close. Even for a quick breakfast on the go I was hitting the bakery for croissants every day.

Casino wise, I don't like low ceilings in casino's and Mirage has that, it's smokier in my opinion. So if you don't like smoke then Paris wins.

 

Have stayed in both and often play in both, even if staying elsewhere. One clear advantage of Paris is the Strip view of Bellagio fountain show. It is not a big deal for me, but I have had friends stay at Paris on my recommendation for that reason alone. Not sure you would be assured of that view with a basic room reservation from TR site, if course.

 

The Mirage does not have cheap craps tables, but it is right across the street from Casino Royale, which is cheap as well as Treasure Island next door.

 

If you are going in the summer time and are interested in the pool, Mirage wins in a landslide.

If you are going in the winter and/or do not have interest in the pool, its a closer comparison.

The rooms are remodeled at Mirage and slightly nicer. The restaurants at Paris are slightly better. The sportsbook at Mirage is much nicer.

Location is a wash to me, as both are good in that department.

I would choose Mirage based on pool/sportsbook/room. But that is only one man's opinion. Good luck!

I've stayed at both hotels 3 times. I will not be going back to Paris.

I would make the location a dead heat between the two hotels and a slight nod to Paris on dining options.

Paris casino has ZERO vibe.When I stayed there I would walk to Ballys to play table games.If you plan to gamble,play somewhere else. DEAD!

The rooms are screaming for a renovation.
Last time I stayed there they charged me $12+ for high speed and $24+ for the gym.This makes the resort fee at Mirage a great deal.
If it is pool season,the pool at Paris is a joke.Just like it's neighbor to the south,PH,concrete pad above the strip.

You probably did, but keep in mind resort fees.


I like the room, casino, vibe better at Mirage.

Location to me is basically a wash. You are farther from the South end, but you are closer to places like TI, Wynn, V/P which can be a plus.

Food to me is the only downside of Mirage. I do like the Deli, but I always seem to get annoyed by a $20 deli sandwich. I don't care how much meat they put on them when I know I'm not eating it all.... I've enjoyed a lot of places at Paris and to me they are have a much better breakfast selection. Lunch/Dinner I care less about since I may be out on the strip anyway, so where I stay matters less.



I now stay at Paris much more often, but that has more to do with comps. TR just gives me better offers. If I got the same offers from MLife though, I'd stay at Mirage every trip. I don't gamble enough to go up to the Aria/Bellegio level.

 

I voted Paris (I see I am alone with that ) but I like some things about Mirage as well.

One negative to Mirage is the teensy weensy bathroom, at least in the room I had, and I found the casual dining to be lacking & overpriced. Also, since I am a fan of neither TI or CP, the location isn't great for me. Mirage Casino is okay, but nothing too special. I am also fed up with MLife, so that impacts my decisions for sure.

I agree that Paris casino vibe is lacking, but since I hit for $10,000 last trip I am more of a fan than I was I really enjoy many of the dining options there & I love the proximity to PHo & the Miracle Mile and the Walgreen's right there.

They are both solid choices, though. Have fun!

Mirage sent me 2 free nights and $100 in slot play and I only played maybe $50 when I was there 2 years ago. MLIFE is very generous. So, we're going in 6 days...splitting between Mirage and Flamingo where we got a suite.

 

That's a really good point about the small bathroom in the standard Mirage rooms...forgot about that.

 

You have just listed every reason why I have zero issues staying at Paris. It really does depend on a lot of items. If I didn't care about comps at all, I would be playing at Mirage/V/P/Wynn more often. I just like the interior of those casinos. But I also know I will never get anything out of my play there. Therefore I will take something slightly lower and get completely free rooms.


You really can't go wrong with either though.

 

I like the customer service at the Mirage more than Paris. Plus, Paris staff can be kind of stuffy. I've never had that problem at Mirage.
