I know that this question is probably on the forefront of the minds of many people running Playstudios as well, so I thought I’d ask everyone here what would motivate them to buy chips in the game?

For me, there really hasn’t been a reason to buy chips, since I get about a 1,000to 2,000 LPs per day just with casual use before and after work. However, with the new 3-reward limit per 30-days, I might be persuaded to buy some chips if it was clear whether that would get me some more reward slots.

It’s unfortunate that the announcements didn’t really spell out who would be exempt, with only this being mentioned in the update (perhaps this will be clarified after March 1, when the new rules come into effect):

    http://support.myvegas.com/entries/22960937-new-rewards-policy-update-january-18-2013

As I said before, if there was some definitive statement on what amounts of purchases get you what, I would be more likely to throw some money their way (especially if a $5 purchase got you even one more slot, since the rewards tend to be worth more than that).

The ability to win real money. But that's not going to happen so... :)

And I don't feel guilty because they have a pretty steady revenue stream from ads. I would feel guilty on the other hand if I was spending money to play virtual slot machines with 0 chance of winning.

If I were feeling the need to support Playstudios, I could see myself buying the minimal chip package but that's it. If for some reason I completely run out of chips, I would just collect from the strip for a few days before playing the slots.

I don't know why people are so fixated on getting around the limit. There are other things outside of the MGM universe to enjoy in Vegas, especially considering the time it takes to redeem this stuff at the mLife desk. It's not a miserable experience by any means but I'd rather be gambling. My hunch is that the exemption is for people like the myFriends member who bought over a $1000 in chips. It would take a hell of a lot to get the comparable value back in rewards.

For me to become an idiot.

No real offense to those that have bought. BUT, this game is a beta game, their gifting system doesn't work (gifts are not being credited) and a couple days ago their developer Monty admitted there was a bug where the system was averaging their lifetime betting average while it was suppose to only average real time betting (game being Around the world). Many REPEATED glitches are being reported. The list can go on and on....

So, it would take me to lose all concept of basic common sense to purchase chips.

The chip packages, even their specials, are too expensive. Offer me 2 million reds and say 15K gold for $10 or maybe $20 at the most. I might be tempted.

The game is just that, a game. There is absolutely no reason for me to spend money to play it. The rewards are great...they're free! If you could only get them by buying chip packages, I wouldn't play. I look at it like this, if you are paying money to get chip & LP's then you are basically chasing comps which is a no-no! If I'm limited to 3 rewards per trip for nothing but a few minutes of my time each day, that's fine with me.

In simpler terms, if you are paying for the chips, just put that money towards the reward you want. Makes no sense to pay 40 for chips when you could take that 40 and just buy the buffet you were going to "win"

    I wouldn't buy chips.

First, I don't find it hard to earn chips in that game and I have gone from 0 to over 200K in less than a day, only to lose it all the next day but then be up to 300-400K the day after.

But what I think the OP was getting at wasn't buying chips for the sake of playing the games, but buying chips to where they consider you a "loyal customer" and will exempt you from the limit of only 3 MyVegas purchases using your in game LPs

With that, its an entirely "up to their discretion" thing and wouldn't interest me at all: I'm not going to buy $100 worth of play chip packages so that maybe on my next trip I can use a bunch of points to get a bunch of free stuff that would probably cost less than or about the same as that $100.

And realistically I think disclaimer is only in there to cover their butts, like for the average buyer of chips its never going to be enough for them to go above the 3 item limit... but if they have some dummy come in there and blow hundreds or maybe even thousands of dollars of real money to buy play chips because they thought they could win all this stuff and then start to blow a fuse when they find out that they are limited to only 3 items per trip, this new rule can let that person still go through the system and maybe buy more than 3 items so that they can avoid a lawsuit.

For the "would you buy chips if meant you could get an exemption?" question it would have to be spelled out 100% for me to even consider considering it.. I would have to be able to see all the numbers so I can calculate if it'd be worth it or not and if there was some loophole I might do it, IE: if it was "spend $20 and you can use up to 5 MyVegas rewards" and I found a 4th and 5th reward I'd be willing to cash in and their value was much more than $20, then I would probably do it.

I would gladly pay up to $25 for something that auto-collected chips from the hotels every time they became available so I wouldn't have to login from my phone at lunch time to collect chips... and still have missed a few thousand to play with :(

But I'm with Auggie. I'd have to see something spelled out in detail on what I would get on the front and back end if I did buy chips.

    I guess I wouldn't.

I tried to think up a scenario, but the main redemptions I want are the rooms, and even if you gave bonus LPs for purchases that made buying chips and redeeming cheaper than just booking the room, and had enough rewards available that getting the one you want wasn't hard, I still don't think I'd do it, because if I'm paying out of pocket for a room, there are cheaper rooms in town.

There are a couple of things that they could do to increase the likelihood of people buying chips. (probably not me, but others)

Unlockable reward slots (limit removal beyond the 3 default redemptions)

Tier link (add a "buy pearl" tier which grants chips and some LP's. Since tier isn't a marker for offers, they could credit an Mlife account with tier credits and let people outright buy the pearl tier.)

Special Mlife moments like the Bellagio fountain one already present (rewards that are only available to paying clients. They would have to be very careful though because putting a wall between free and paying is a fine line that would make some people walk away. It would have to be done via new added rewards, rather than removing or locking existing ones)

Chip Boost (Computer free to play games often include boosters like this where you pay money to boost things like experience gain. They could do the same thing here where you boost your payback percentage for a short period of time, or chip gain from hotels, etc.)

And the biggest one, honestly... Get some real licensed games and other variety. Add Craps, Texas Hold'em and Roulette The MyVegas games are garbage. All of their major competitors (High 5, Jackpot Party, Double Down) have licensed games people are familiar with. Nobody WANTs to play Lucky Birds...

This is the page where I have seen Monty discuss the game.
    http://www.facebook.com/groups/friendsofmyvegas/

I would never pay for chips. It's not worth it. As a free game it is definitely worth it. One person on that page has said they have spent over $2,000 on chip packages! Are you kidding me? How pathetic!

Whatever rewards I get with the LP's i'm gonna give away anyway since I am fully comped at MGM resort properties.

I get a big kick out of all these fking losers on the facebook page bitching and moaning that they can't cheat the game anymore like they used to.

It's a FREE game with FREE rewards and these ungrateful assholes just keep bitching and moaning.

I guess I will be in the minority. For our trip in March, I have the 2 night stay at Mirage, 2 Buffets, and Terry Fator. My wife has 2 additional nights, KA
, and $75 NYNY F&B. We got all this without buying any chips back in the day when you could get 50k per day easily. Probably $1,000+ in value.

Most of this stuff we could get comped anyway, but it was fun playing the game. We each bought the $39 package (special) as a way to say thanks. Call us stupid, but Monty and Mr. P (forgot name, owner of Playstudios) have been great.

I too bought $20 in chips just as a way to show support for a cool idea (I'm a game developer myself).

But the cost of buying chips vs. the rewards you get for cycling that money though games is too high unless you get a lot of enjoyment from playing the games themselves. And it is also too high vs. how many chips you can collect for free when you have all the casinos built.

Also, if it were my decision on how to improve monetization, the first thing I would do is give paying customers first dibs at certain rewards. There have been some other good suggestions in this thread as well - exclusive rewards, bonuses to chip collection (I'd add wheel spin bonuses such as higher values and/or additional spins, too), etc. And maybe some exclusive games once the existing selection is a little fuller.

Would definitely like to see a real-time multiplayer craps game. You can't find this anywhere else on facebook, or really anywhere outside an actual internet casino.

Initially I did not know where the chips were coming from because I would be spinning at 600 and I could not see the chips at the top, so I accidentally exhausted all my chips on the first try.

    It hurt.

I paid $9 for 11000 chips because I did not realize then that you could get chips from your strip that you are building. I built those chips up to 60,000 before I happened upon My strip. LOL

Would not pay ever again. Since then, I have lost all my chips 3 or 4 times and built back up to 20K in a matter of a couple days.

But then when people are paying, it's not free anymore. I think they have a right to complain if they have been paying and expected to get as many rewards as they pleased.

The 1,250,000 chips for $200 would be worthwhile for someone when the rewards were unlimited. Why? You can grind it out to pay for thousands of dollars in rewards for multiple trips. If you do not normally receive comps or if you are new to Vegas, this is an opportunity to enjoy perks for an amount of money that would normally get you nothing. On top of that, you have no obligation to play when you get there, which further saves money. Or, if you do intend to play, the fact that you stayed on a comped room may increase the possibility of another comp. This was not a terrible deal when it was unlimited. But you say, you might as well pay for it at regular price? This is so, which is why I would not want to do it--then or now. However, if one is strategic, they can make that money work for them. With only 30,000 chips which helped me to get 21,500 loyalty points, I was able to get a $40 room at Luxor. If it's possible to maintain that play with 1.25 million chips (divided by 30,000 chips, assuming that is how much you need to gain those points), that's a minimum of 41 nights at Luxor at that $40 rate. 41nightsX$40=$1,640. You could really make it work for you (and my rate for Luxor is an underestimation). Many people would probably want better rooms but even a $70 rate at Mirage for 75,000 points should get you 1/3rd at least of those nights. But even if you got 13 measly nights, that's over $800 worth of nights at the Mirage. It has some value but only if it's unlimited.

    It's worth bitching about.
