My Trip Report

On the plane now. SW air. Boarding passes B28&27 bummer. Got on the plane and there were two seats in the 5th row empty! What was that about? Our row mate doesn't look that bad. Just another Wisconsin good old boy headed for the Vegas gun show, as is half the plane.

Arriving at 10:15, first order of business pick up the car, then drive to pick up the LVA coupon book. get the wife something to eat, head for downtown, check in at GN, go to the boarshead at MMS to meet, reservations to eat at 8pm.

Then nothing planned until the meet on the 20th.

We landed in Vegas at 9:45AM, picked up the car, picked up the LVA coupon book and headed Downtown to get my wife lunch. It was early so I decided to park in the stucture across from

    Necropolis, on 4th street.

We got out of the car and I realized it was COLD with the wind. We took the elevator down to street level and I decided that now would be the time to walk 25 steps and eat lunch at

    Hennessey's

We have never been there before, it always seemed crowded and loud. On this day, before noon, freezing weather, it had about 20 customers. We sat at the Bar, and had some good conversation

with the bartender and were happy to find out that it was 2 for 1 burger or taco plates Tuesday. We ordered Fish Tacos, blackenend and baja. They were were Very good, the blackened a little

better in my wifes opinion. She was very happy, so I would live a little longer.

After a couple more drinks, we walked outside, it was still cold, We walked into Necropolis, something I had not done before, then decided to hell with it, let's go check in and wait until

it warms up, before walking Downtown (it never really warmed up that day, since we have had 60 degree weather)

We checked in, my wife took a rest, she has a habit of staying up all night when we are going somewhere and have to get up at 3 or 4 AM, and I went downstairs and dropped a couple $hundred,

on what seemed to be some pretty poor video poker.

Soon it was time to go up, roust the wife and go meet Kaveman, and Mirs56. My wife started in on me, "Do you know these people?", "Remember Criminal Minds?", She has been freaked out a

little lately when we watch those cut em up shows. I said Honey, this is a meet, at a public place, The boarshead bar, remember meeting all those other people before? The Cocktail Party at

    the Cosmo? "Oh", she said

We met Caveman and Mirs56, (Carl and Chris) and had a great time. When we had to leave, because of dinner reservations at eight, Carl and Chris were the cutest people my wife had ever met.

For those of you that have never been at a meet in Vegas with your fellow board members, DO IT! They are a lot of fun!

    What an attractive group!

We went up the escalator, through the California, outside, still cold, into the Las Vegas club to Freemont. Fremont was actually crowded, a singer entertaining, necks craned to watch what I

consider a big TV in the roof (yes I'm a crabby old man that doesn't get it - I remember driving down Freemont.)

We ate dinner at the GN Charthouse - excellent, my wife was happy, I was safe another day. 10 o'clock - CRASH - just don't have the adrenaline I had when I was younger. 20 beers and Up for 20

    hours was enough!

    Wednesday ***********

The next morning we checked out of GN at 9:45 and I directed my wife to the Spa, for her 10AM Massage and Facial appointment. I went to gamble and found the VP machines a little more

    aggreeable than the night before.

I looked up while I was playing and saw an acquaintence from home. He sat down and played and talked a while. Funny, when I was young, it wasn't uncommon to run into 2 or 3 people I knew

during a trip, it's probably been 10 years since it happened.

3 hours later, when my wife was done, I was actually up $20.

My wife wanted to EAT, so we decided to go to Ellis Island, one of her favorites in Vegas is their Trout Almondine. We sat down and I ordered the Steak Special. My wife asked about the Trout

Almondine, and the waiter said it was no longer on the menu, Oh Oh, my life flashed before me, I just knew I was going to suffer, a buzzing started in my ears until I heard the waiter tell

her about the blackened salmon and she ordered that. When her order came out, there was a huge slab of salmon, perfectly done, and she loved it!

We gambled, we lost, and it was time to go check in at the timeshare, my wifes favorite part of the trip. This is where I have to light a firecracker under her to get her to move. Her idea of

a vacation is to relax, read, take long whirlpool baths, interrupted by food and drink. We got settled, went to the grocery store, and actually decided to get Taco Bell (I knew I couldn't go

wrong). The second night in Vegas and we were settling in for a quiet night.

    Thursday ***********

Up the next day and off to Arizona Charlie's Decatur for the LVA 2for1 buffet. Arizona Charlie's buffet is about $8, so the 2for1 isn't a big deal, but we love the buffet, and stop there even

when we don't have a coupon. It's not Bellagio, but I like it just as well or better than MSS or Orleans. After we ate we gambled, and Charley did well on those buffets.

Later, we we went To our 7PM reservations at Capo's Italian Resturant on West Sahara Rd. at 6:30, so we could sit at the bar and have a few before dinner, no such luck, the place was packed.

Took a seat at the entance and wacthed the crowd. Well, my wife watched the crowd, do you remember the girl from Roger Rabbit? I only thought you could see such exaggeration in a cartoon. Now

picture a gorgeous, dark, Italian with the same low cut buxom build. I'd be there every night for Happy Hour (don't tell my wife), except for one thing, my wife didn't like the food. I only

go Italian for her, Yes, I was in the dog house, I had a $50 resturaunt.com coupon, that I picked from 2k miles away and had blown it.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the appetizers, and my meal. They had a fabulous Piano player that tag teamed with a wonderful singer, and the view of that bartender, would have covered up

tomain for me (shhh don't tell my wife). But my wife's first marriage was to an Italian and his mother was a great cook. We live in Kenosha, a city between Chicago and Milwuakee, that was

half first generation Italians and half German, and we had great Italian Resturants while we grew up, although they have thinned out. So she really has high standards, and Capo's didn't meet

them foodwise. The atmosphere was great, the patrons were all happy, the happy hour specials are worth a look (bartender), but my wife was not happy with the meal or service.

    Friday morning **************

Nothing planned for today, except for a walk in a new park they just completed across the street, it's huge, on Topicana, from Decatur halfway to Jones. My internet was spotty so I called the

service provider yesterday, they refunded my $30 fee for four days AND left me connected just in case I could us it. It comes and goes. Wife is ready to go at 1PM so I will take advantage of the internet while I have it - Thank gosh for smart phones!

Can't wait for the Sunday meet!

    Time to get this finished!

    Friday 1/18 continued

So, It's time to take our walk in the new park across the street. I used to be just a huge drainage ditch, for those Flash floods that happen in the desert. They have done a wonderful job, walkways, parking, we saw a huge grass field ahead, with soccer goals and a walkway all around. Oh look a sign! "Beware, danger of drowning when it rains" Well I'll be waiting to read that headline!

So I look up the rocky hill, and to the other end of the park, I look over to the mountains and decide we will make it to the other end of the park, before it rains.

Now that I look over, the Orleans is just another two blocks further, and it would be nice to have lunch at the buffet, or Friday's . Maybe even a little gambling! What good luck I made sure my and handed my wife her gambling cards and made sure to ask if she had her license on her person. Can you imagine that even though I have told her hundreds of times in Vegas to have her license on her, she still forgets!

About halfway between the the Orleans and the Park, I noticed a lot of Huffing and Puffing coming from behind me and I looked back to notice that my wife, was a little out of breath. She asks where I am going, her hip was starting to hurt, and I tell her The Orleans, to have lunch and do a little gambling. I tell her that it is just lucky that I made sure she had her cards, that we were prepared for anything. Funny look from her. "I put them in the car."--

"Okay, I gave you your cards and we were going to take a walk, so you put them in the car, that's okay, we can get you a new card because you have your license"--

"No, that's in the car too" --

"Honey, on every trip, for the last 25 years, everyday, I have told you to have your license on your person and you put it in the car, after I reminded you, and made sure you had it?" --

"It's your fault, you didn't tell me what you had planned - you are an @$$hole"

God, I hope the food is good! I'm in trouble again.

We ate at the Buffet, and the food was great as usual. So now I ask, "do you want me to get the car and pick you up? Take a taxi home?" -- "No, I'm fine"

Did you ever notice that when you are in a car, you don't always notice going uphill? Yup, most of the way was uphill. Now we are full, as only a buffet can make you, and walking uphill. Did I mention that we both smoked for over 40 years? That we both quit about eight months ago? (not long enough to gain full pulmonary benefits, but long enough for me to gain 20 pounds, I won't speak for my wife, she has forbidden me.) (( Did I mention that we worked in an auto Factory for 36 years, that the air was so bad, the EPA ordered the windows closed, so that we wouldn't pollute the surrounding area? - that probably happened 80 years too late. ))

That extra 2000 feet of altitude is not helping either. So, I am feeling it a little, but we are having to stop for rests. No, she won't let me walk ahead and get the car, tight chested, red faced, huffing and puffing we finished that walk together. The rest of the night was spent recuperating, eating in out of the refrigerator, salad, hot wings, etc.

A vow to lose weight, exersize, be ready to take that walk the next trip was made.

    Saturday 1/19 :

This was one of those busy days that I try not to let happen, but sneek in on my wife. We got up and went to the Bellagio for the Lunch Buffet - MYVEGAS - yes we were going to check in to the Bellagio the next day, but I was going to hit other MGM ptroperties today, so we did Bellagio first. I love the Bellagio Buffet, but we were going to the Excaliber Steakhouse, at 5PM - MYVEGAS - $150 credit and then to the Australian BeeGees at 7PM - MYVEGAS so we ate lightly.

We of course gambled at each hotel we stopped at.

Next we went to the Excaliber and Picked up the BeeGee tickets, and got the Voucher for the Steakhouse. Easily done, we had already setup the reservations with MyVegas.

At the Manadalay, There are some 9/5 super times triple play VP machines (DDB 98.14% Payback with the supertimes multiplier, pretty good for MGMs) so I figured it would be a good time to pick up our Border Grille Brunch vouchers for the next morning.

A quick tram ride and we were there. Easy pickup then We held our own on the Gambling, and soon It was time to hit the Excalibur Steak House. Tram it back.

My wife loved the service and the meal, as did I. Plenty of drinks, two hor'derves, soup , salad, and the entrees. After the $150 voucher, the bill was $10 (hey, we are going to start to lose weight in the future, we skipped desert!) Added a $40 tip and we had a great meal and drinks for $50!

Time for the BeeGees. Show was good, I was a little worried about the seats, because I had reserved late, and the seats were in the back, but the room was small and there really wasn't a bad seat. My wife loved them. I'm safe for another day.

    Sunday 1/20

Another busy day, checkout of timeshare, drive to Mandalay, to enjoy the Border Grille Brunch (MyVegas). We got there when it opened at 10AM.

The Border Grille Brunch isn't a buffet. They give you a menu and you order 2 or 3 small plates at a time. We sat inside. Here are our first 6 plates:

My favorite was the skirt steak, but I enjoyed all my selections. I ordered the bottomless Mimosas, which come in 3 or 4 different flavors.

My wife liked some plates, not so much others. Her favorite was the corn tamales.

    Here is their menu:
    http://www.bordergrill.com/PDF/bglv_border_brunch_flyer.pdf

A little gambling and it was 12:30pm, time to head to Bellagio to check in. When asked the inevitable, "Pool or fountain view?", I answered, "Close to the elavator."

A little clicking and I was directed to the Spa tower, for a "Sunset" view. I said yes, the Rio, Palms, Orleans view, I was familiar with it! She just looked at me funny.

The room was right next to the Elevator exit. Great! I looked out the window, and there they were, The Orleans, the Palms and the Rio.

We settled in and it was time for the meet with Jasonargo and Barney at the MMS.

A great time was had by all, many beers were drank with much conversation, and soon it was time to head back to the hotel.

We went to Noodles for dinner. Delicious!

Then my wife went upstairs to read and Relax. I gambled to midnight. (I go gambling early in the morning and later in the night, while my wife, rests reads, gets ready, she only gambles in the afternoon/early evening.)

    Monday 1/21

I'm up, showered, and out to gamble early, while my wife sleeps/gets ready. At about 11:30, she calls and I go to the lobby and get her. Today, I thought that we would take our last visit, and buy my wife's favorite Egg Foo Yong in the world for her. We headed to Bill's.

I should have learned earlier in the week at Ellis Iland, They no longer had Egg Foo Yong on the menu. I'm in trouble again! My wife ordered a turkey club (she gave me the bacon and thought she was eating healthy). I ordered Barbequed Salmon. Thought it was worth a picture.

Bill's is now dead to us. I'll miss the cafe, it was always good, but the best part of Bill's moved down to the piano bar at Harrah's, that where we are going next - to see Big Elvis.

We are going to eat at the Mirage Buffet later (MyVegas), so instead of walking my wife around on that iffy hip, we head back to the Bellagio, pick up the car, and drive down to the Mirage. We cross the street, and see Elvis. His shows start at 2 PM now, BEERS are $8.25.

My wife laughed that the second one went down a lot slower than the first. That's ok, I have a plan, we will go and average down my beer expense when we leave. We will head for Casino Royale!

Here's elvis, the picture is blurry, but the kid to his left(your right) in the casino is an exact double of one of my kids.

So we went to Casino Royale, and can you believe it, they had moved my wife's favorite, always win machine out! I think there is a conspiracy.

Back across the street at the Mirage, we walked back to the bank of four Super Times triple play VP machines. It was now a bank of two. One a 9/5, one a 7/5. I put my wife on the 7/5 (What does she know?)

We talked to a wonderful couple, who didn't seem very knowlegeabble about VP. Our conversation turned to this message board, MyVegas, Video poker dot com, and then she taught me something. She took a picture of the DDB, and Dueces Cheat card I carry in my pocket - worked great!

We went and ate at the buffet, I always enjoy it. Wish the crab was warm, but that seems to be everywhere.

When we left, I noticed that they were working on the Volcano. It's night, but here's the picture.

Back to the Bellagio, wife up to the room, me down to gamble.

    Tuesday 1/22

I'm up, showered, and out to gamble early, while my wife sleeps/gets ready. At about 11:00, she calls and I go to the lobby and get her. Today, I thought that we would walk over to the Miracle Mile. I planned to have lunch at PF Chang's - yes I know it is a chain - but ever since BeeJay mentioned it at the MarchMadness VIII, it has been one of our most favorites. The nearest one to our house is 30 miles away in Illinois and we have now vowed to make that trip and see the Chicago Botanic Gardens at the same time - The food and service was of the highest quality.

We walked around after lunch, my wife going into the various shops, I even joined her sometimes. Finally we came to the Fresh Grill and bar and I pulled out my $21 Groupon for two 51oz, frozen concoctions. We picked pina colada, with a couple of extra shots (she only charged me for one shot) and we continued on.

We went back to the Bellagio, into the casino and gambled until Dinner, at the Bellagio Cafe, then you guessed it:

My wife up to the room, I went down to gamble.

    Wednesday 1/23 - Checkout day

I'm up, showered, and out to gamble early, while my wife sleeps. At about 8am, I give her a call to remind her it's checkout day. At 9:30 I go back up to the room and by 10:30 we are checked out, and on the road to Sam's Town. Using the Las Vegas Adviser 2for1 coupon we ate at the buffet. Then it was time to return the car, and head home.

8 days, 2 people, less than $2000, for gambling, Dining, and entertainment. Low key, low adrenaline, relaxing.

I still didn't go see the Jersey Boys, but that means I have something to look forward to next time.

I used $400+ in MyVegas awards.

The dogs were happy to see us when we got home.

Nice TR! Sounds like you scored big with myvegas. I'm surprised Big Elvis takes that side of the piano bar. That doesn't seem to leave a lot of space for the audience.
