A Story About a Good Host MLK Weekend

New to the board, been reading for awhile but this is my first TR.

I just started playing with a players card back in November and have made 4 trips to Vegas since. I play craps 150 avg and anywhere from 6-8 hours per day of my stay. This trip, I had friends coming in so I used 2 of my comps. Keep in mind this is MLK weekend with the shot show and AVN awards in town so it was quite busy.

Wynn Experience

Paid casino rate 1 night, comped second night. Got an encore deluxe room, tried the $20 trick but they don't upgrade casino comped rooms apparently? Got picked up from the airport in limo, the phantoms weren't available but was promised that next time. Regardless, the room was quite large and very impressive. Played a total of 12 hours at $150 (side note, hit the feature bets [ALL SMALL, ALL TALL, ALL OR NOTHING] twice which paid handsomely. I'll take this over a fire bet anyday). Other friends were worried that avicii was sold out and stood in line at 10:30. Myself and my 4 non-gambler friends were walked in, cut everyone including bottle service line, and did not have to pay anything (guys tickets were $80). Same thing happened on the next night for the sold out afrojack show at XS. Host then gave me late checkout at 4pm and I came home and checked my bill 4 days later to see they had comped off all my food and room charges. Only had to pay taxes and tips and toiletries purchases at the convenience store. A great host, PM for details if you'd like. He really takes care of you and understands what's necessary for a great Vegas experience.

Venetian

This host has been hit or miss. Last time I was there, he got me a room at Palazzo in which I played only 4 hours at $180. All food charges (~$35), resort fees and room charges were comped off. As a courtesy, I played an additional 4 hours before checking out. Was looking forward to the same deal this time.

We were put in a bella suite, paid one night at $220 and comped the next 2 nights (room value was $980 according to website). Played 10 hours @180, received no comps whatsoever. Had a few nice meals at the restaurants (Carnevino bill was $400). Was thoroughly dissapointed by this experience and probably will play at the Wynn exclusively now. To add insult to injury, the 9ers game line was 3.5 at Venetian and 4 at the Wynn. Lost my parlay but if it had been at the Wynn, would have won $320. Venetian, I want to like you but you always let me down. Also my total win/loss was +2500 at the Wynn, -1100 at Venetian.

TL;DR
Wynn host got me limo transfers, comped 2 nights room and food, admission for me and 4 friends to XS on 2 sold out nights showing up at 12:30. With the same level of play, was given up front comp of 2 nights and nothing else at Venetian.

 

Good deal at Wynn.

On your first trip to Venetian, 4 hours at $180 should pretty easily be sufficient to cover your room. But your extra play on that trip doesn't get "banked".

On your latest trip, based on the fact you said the value of the comp room for 2 nights was $980, I'm guessing they were weekend nights, and that's probably the difference. I don't know what kind of discount the casino gets, but my guess is that it's a percentage.

So if they use 100 hands an hour (may be a little high) and .014 as the HA, and get a 30% discount on the room, then:

First trip:

4 hours * $180 * 100 hands/hr * .014 HA = $1,008 in theo.

If the rack rate for the room for that night was $220, and the casino paid $154, then you easily covered it, even if 100 hands an hour or .014 HA are higher than what they actually use. You could add in another $100 in room charges and still be at only 25% comp rate.

If that stay was actually longer than one night, then you probably were over-comped.


Second trip:

10 hours * $180 * 100 hands/hr * .014 HA = $2,520 in theo

If the rack rate was $980, and the casino paid $686, then you're right on the
boundary - the room comp amounted to 27% of your theo.


Wynn:
12 hours * $150 * 100 hands/hr * .014 HA = $2,520 in theo

Don't know what the room rates were so it's hard to say, but 30% of that theo is $756. So it looks like you got a good deal at Wynn, and an average deal at Venetian.

 

V/P folks just do not get it, as per the example above.

Personally, I tend to get rooms/suites/limo/freeplay at RFL at MGM properties. Tried V/P a few years back with similar play - got room offers.

Twice in the past 6 months a host at V/P has called offering me 2, maybe even 3 nights comped. I explain why I would be crazy to do that vs MGM and he tries to tell me how wonderful their suites (large room) are and to come on on over. They just don't get it.

 

Just to make sure I am clear, do you have some sort of playing status at wynn that allowed you to skip the line at XS or was it strictly because of the host? Is there some status there that is supposed to allow that? Does the host usually have late hours (i.e is he available to troubleshoot or does he just set it up for you)?

I don't stay at V/P anymore - they had become my favorite until they cut the up-front comps. Nice to know that they have them again but from your report and others, they are more stingy than I am used to at CET and MGM so I'm not likely to go back.

Thanks for the calculations, it puts it into perspective. I thought they usually comp up to 40%?

Anyway, my host is just really cool and gets it. He knows I'm young and offers things that I would like to do. The playing status didn't help me, the host did. He hugged all the bouncers and walked us in. I think he works pretty late and then comes to the club himself lol. He usually walks us in at 12:30.
