Ya know I've been wanting to post this for months now and always ferget..

My GF dad used to pack her and her mother and 2 brothers from Kokomo,In in the car and tell them during summer that they were taking a road trip..Well yes you guess it it always would be The Lady Luck ...He would stay months at a time and play strictly cards (Poker) and I guess he was hard to beat in his day and by the way is still good at it in his 77years--(only man that I know that can control the card deck,,Meaning during this past summer we were playing poker and my Gf said show some tricks or whatever ya call it--He asked me what I wanted and I said a full house--Boom next round was a full house--I asked for 4 A's--Boom there they were..It is amazing what he has told me about his Vegas years of being comped and winning ..My Gf always knew when back in town if after a night of playing cards if he had won cause they went from spam to steak that night..

My Gf says her mother wouldn't mind lounging in the sun months on end as long as the kids were fed good and happy..

I hope sometime soon as when The Lady Luck reopens under I can't remember what name it's gonna be to take him back to Vegas so he can reminisce and at least get him out of the back room legions and pool halls for awhile..

Oh well thought I'd share this thanks.

What a great story. My guess is the latest version The Lady Luck won't impress him as much as how it used to be. What great memories for your GF also.

Maybe it would not be the same as "Lady Luck", but there are so many places to visit. Little joints like that are here and there. Last time he has been in Vegas?

One of my regrets is never having experienced the "Old Vegas" of the 70's and 80's. I certainly could have visited during that time but was too busy making a living and providing for family.

I love hearing stories of Old Vegas and appreciate you sharing your story. I always like to hear adventures during that era and makes me wonder what kind of mischief I would have gotten into, lol!

Now that I am older, and slower, Vegas still stirs the youth in me and have me wishing I could've visited earlier when I was younger. But we all have our priorities I guess, sigh....

Back in the day - early 70's - I took my brother to Vegas. Of age only with a fake ID. Started out at small casinos in Henderson - playing maybe $1 or less on Blackjack. Then to nicer ones. Then downtown, then on the strip. Winning money at every casino along the way. Nice bundle built up when we hit the Flamingo. By then my brother is still playing only one chip at a time - but they are green - you know $25 each. With a half hour, the entire days wins were gone. Zip.

Luckily our Uncle took us out to dinner and show that night. Prime Rib at Landmark Hotel and Casino. Typical show at Stardust I think. He tipped to get us a good seat down front.

Great story nostresshere, I didnt get to experience Vegas until the turn of the century, so I missed out on alot of what was great about it back in the day. Granted i was probably 25-26 when I first went so it wasnt like I really had a chance to get out there and see it for myself before that. Im glad I got out there when I did because I still got to see the north strip when it was busy. Its a ghost town down there now and is very sad to see. Someone needs to start a thread about stories of their trips back in the 60s 70s and 80s. I would love to read any that folks would like to share!

I'm nuts for these Old Vegas stories too. Did he ever run into Benny Binion or Amarillo Slim back in the day?
