Did anyone hear about the Sahara re opening in 2014? That would be awesome, it was the very first place we stayed at on the strip.:drunk:

Officially, the SLS is still on track. However, other than some cosmetic work on the outside and some staging on the East side, the major demo work that should have started by now is lagging.

I think it's going to happen. Most major projects on The Strip do not meet their over-optimistic construction schedules (which I think are presented more to get financing anyway).

The financing is not together yet. They are some out of the box tactics to get it together but there is no telling if it's every going to happen at this point. Whatever date they initially announced won't be met.

Like the Riviera, CC, Strat, just hard to staying profitable when you are out there alone. I think if the money problems hadn't happened then maybe new places to go up might have been between the Encore and Riviera but that still leaves the Sahara alone. People like DT to not drive and Bally's/Paris area to not drive and MB/MGM area to not drive imo.

With all the problems on that end of the strip I'm going to take a wait and see attitude.

Yes, they are still short more than $100,000,000 in funding and investment to proceed with the renovations and they already used up their deadline extension to buy more time until the end of January.

Anybody here ready to invest some major bucks? Maybe even $100,000 to see it make it or fail?

If I had that kind of money to invest in a casino, I would be sending it downtown instead of north strip. There is just a huge issue with random traffic at Sahara(or whatever the new name is).

The problem with the north is that the locations (or lack of locations) don't buoy each other.

Once they ALL get up and running, it will be great. Until then, bleh.

When I went to Vegas maybe 4 years ago the Echelon was a pancake. It IS still not built (delayed to 2016 I think)
The Fontainebleau is delayed. I think that tower was up 4 years ago.
There's a ton of other empty spae with plans that haven't come to fruition due to money and lollygagging.

I think people should remember that #1, if this project happens, what will come will not be the Sahara. Don't want to be mean about this but you should let go of all your nostalgia because it's really gone unless this fails and someone else gets their hands on it. #2 The crowd they are developing this for would have no reason to be north other than SLS. I don't see how that would work out. Are they supposed to club hop over to The STRAT or the Riv. My money is on the financing to fall through. There are just better investments opportunities than giving your money to a guy who already struck out once.

The logic is likely meant to be the same as it was at various times for places like Palms, Rio, and more recently M Resort. You target LA party people who have cars, and thus care less about strip location.

Whether it will work out that way, who knows? I wouldn't invest in it by any means, but stranger things have happened.

IMHO, it's the domino effect of the Westward Ho, Frontier, & Stardust closing. I used to go to the Sahara all the time when those places were open. When they closed, my visits to the Sahara, and the Riviera for that matter, pretty much came to a halt. The North Strip had a nice little thing going as far as I was concerned. Now, it's dead to me.

Unfortunately, I see the entire north side of the strip closing down eventually. This includes the Riviera, Circus Circus, Sahara (even if some how it re-opens) and Slots of Fun. Then the strip mall business will go next. Afterwards, every thing north of Wynn's will slowly be redeveloped but over many years. Perhaps with an over all development plan like the linq or City Center has. IMHO.
