They're all from California, but they could be from anywhere in that era.

One thing I was surprised to see was that they were selling "corn alcohol gasoline" back then. I thought ethanol has only been around about 20-30 years.

I'm old enough to remember gas wars and buying gas for my first car, a 1963 Chevy, for 18.9 cents a gallon. And still getting a jelly jar glass!:poke:

The service station I remember best in Las Vegas is the one with the "Free aspirin and sympathy." sign. It would have been about where the Monte Carlo is now.

Did they have Esso in California back then?

Actually, I do think I recognize a couple of those gas stations. My first car was a 1973 Ford Galaxy 500. It was banana yellow with a brown vinyl top and fit 6 of my friends in the trunk for the drive-in movies.

    Ah, the good old days!

28 cents a gallon and when we asked for $1 worth the smart ass gas station attendant ask if I wanted it filled with a eye dropper....YES, if it will get me MORE......and we got GREEN STAMPS with every purchase.

What confuses me with that picture is back then, no one filled up their own cars...every gas station had attendants who would fill you up, check your oil and wash your windows....I know.....I was one of those guys.....but I also did repairs.

I do miss the true service stations where they would do the gas for you (particularly in the winter!) and check everything and do minor repairs with no wait. Nowadays it seems like you wait for ANYTHING having to do with your car.
