Or does everyone really dislike the "too serious" poker player in Vegas. I get why the do it in Atlantic City, but Vegas is too happy go lucky of a place to be a "dick" at the table. I also get the you're trying to make money, but why not have fun doing it? Anyone else experience this?

My favorite is the guy who wears sunglasses at a poker table. This is generally the same "too serious" poker player you are referring to. Only OK if they are playing in the WSOP, WPT, or high stakes game.

Depends on where you play. Some casinos the play is friendly and casual...other places it cut throat. Pick and choose your casino to play in depending on what you are looking for. Errrr-North/South East Coast?

My favorite was a guy with an IPOD in during a tourney I was playing...except he didn't know how to talk with headphones on (guy was about 50, BTW) so every time he announced and action he yelled.

I always try to sit at the same table as the guy who has the headphones (bigger the better), hood up on his hoodie, sunglasses, AND a backpack. That guy is my favorite player.

I laughed out loud at the replies for this question! When I sit down at a table and see the guy wearing the sunglasses, the dude with the ipod or the clown wearing the hoodie looking like he is about to rob the nearest 7-11, I immediately laugh to myself. 9 times outta 10 there's your 'fish' at the table.

Everyone tries to mimic the guys on TV. Problem is, alot of them are as big of ******s as the people imitating them. I can't stand Phil Laak (unabomber) but you guys are right, they are usually the weakest at the table

These ARE hilarious. I was in Vegas for work, and a friend of mine, that now lives on the west coast, was there for work too. So, I was killing time til he was done with his meeting, then I was going to meet him at Aria. I strolled over to Monte Carlo, at 8pm, 90% of the table was drunk, and this guy had on a hoodie, TIED tight, sunglasses, and was yelling rules at people at the table. Meanwhile, the rest of (complete strangers) were doing shots and screaming out Dave Chappelle quotes.

It was too much, I left the table, along with a few others.

I love, Love, LOVE a table with …
    • 30-59 year-old buddies on a Vegas vecation, drinking and partying,
    • College kids (think frat boys) drinking,
    • The aforementioned Hoodie Mafia,
    • Young, flirtatious women who know how to play poker.*

When at a table with ultra-serious players who bad-mouth folks, I take off.

    * Poker story below:
As I am older (dammit!), sexy young things are mostly ignored … BUT on one trip I played at a table with a very bright, cute, and flirtatious girl (who I later learned just graduated from law school and passed the bar). She drew guys to our table like … well, insert your favorite metaphor.

She would play and flirt with the young men who were trying to impress her with their poker acumen, and she would have her way with them. After a few hours we sat next to each other and I quietly mentioned how impressed I was with her game and how she worked the crowd.

She kind of stared at me and whispered, "You're not supposed to know that." Short story long … she was there for the entirety of my trip and I tried to get to her table, but not to go heads-up against her. I did VERY well with the young guns overplaying their hands.

I was sitting at a 2-4 limit table with a character like that at Binions. It was awesome... everyone else was talking and having fun and he was just sitting there and losing the majority of the time. I guess his headphones werent big enough

I agree. My experience is this guy is the one that continuously has to rebuy and just grows the chip stacks of everyone else at he table.

My only experience with these types is home games and this was 3+ years ago now.

I never disliked them. Actually I got a good laugh at them. They kept getting pissed off at me doing something that wasn't normal.

In Vegas I'm thinking I may actually dislike them. I rarely play poker out there. When I do though I'm just looking for random chat and to have a good time. I'm simply not there to win money.

These days so many people think they are some sort of poker pros -- yet they watch too much tv and don't realize the pros don't act like that and most pros barely make a living and bust out in short time anyway. Everyone loves playing against the guy who takes it too seriously because they are usually the fish. Same goes for the casinos, the house loves gamblers who take the house games too seriously because they're the ones who typically have gambling problems and don't realize it.

Wait, sunglasses, oversized headphone? Did he wear a cap with a "PH" logo?

Those players you are talking about - the headphones, the sunglasses, etc., are soo annoying. I wonder, how high they are, when playing....

I hate the online players who wait till their time is almost up before they decide. Even worse are the pricks who do that pre-flop. I always yell at them that there are only 2 cards not a f@cking book. Guess they're sitting behind their monitor with the hoodie and glasses :grrr:

I find all the fun has gone out of the games. It seems its mostly negative and stand offish. To many nerds jumping out from behind computers for the first time crunching numbers going from video game heros to poker pros overnight. Most (not all) have the personality of a 2x4. and don't know how to interact with people.

The only thing more lame than this guy would be this guy sitting at a 2/4 limit game. Which I have seen!

@Gaggles 'that guy' is hilarious because you are virtually assured 3-4 major hissy fits when his top pair gets beat by a mediocre draw or when his bluff gets called down two streets by a weak hand thats stronger than his.

I personally don't care for poker and would much rather play blackjack, but one of my buddies did convince me to sit at table with him at Luxor on one of our trips. We had a young guy at the table who had no qualms about telling everyone he was there to take our money and for the hour I sat there he heaped verbal abuse on everyone to the point that he was warned he was going to be removed from the game. I left before that happened and that experience alone soured me from playing again.
