How do you decide how much cash/money you will take on your trip? Do you do a big plan of what costs what, do you just pick a lump sum?
I always have a hard time trying to make a budget.

I think the old adage of "don't gamble what you can't afford to lose" holds true and therefore, make the decision very personal to your income, obligations, etc.

I have never really tracked what I spend while in LV, but I usually make a gambling budget and stick to it, I set a per day amount, as do a lot of others. For just walking around money, I usually buy my show tix ahead of time, then figure $200 or $300 a day max for walking around, eating, drinking $$$.

You can do it a lot more expensive or a lot less expensive, just personal tastes.

I was thinking 100 a day for gambling. And yes everything is paid for. So that makes sense 300 a day.

I budget $500 a day for gaming (worse case scenario that I lose 500 bones every day, which never happens) and $100 a day for meals, cabs, shows etc. if I win big early in my trip I will spend a lot more than $100 a day, but I NEVER spend more than $500 a day at the tables........

We budget it out per day, breaking it down like:

    Gambling
    Miscellaneous
    Food

We set this per day based on what we plan/expect to be doing. Like if we have a day planned where we aren't going to be gambling so much but instead will do some shopping and sightseeing and then end up the night with a more expensive than usual dinner then that day might have less gambling, more misc and more food than the day before...

We then also have a fund for the entire trip, this is usually something like $100-200 and its to pick up things like if we stop at the CVS and pick up a few things, feel a little peckish one afternoon and stop for a meal somewhere that was expected in the food budget. Any money left over from the previous days tops this fund up so we always have a few extra bucks on hand for the unexpected and things we didn't budget for.

I usually plan up to $500 - 700 a day for all. Food, drinking, cabs, gambling, entertainment. Usually go thurday to monday or tuesday and try to make it on the week I get paid. So i know first thing friday morning I have a full budget for the rest of the weekend.
My friends arent really big on seeing shows except for usually one comedy act each trip... and usually hitting a strip club one night...so I dont need a huge entertainment budget.

Lump sum amount at the beginning of the trip and then pick table minimums that give me a high probability of that amount lasting. Usually $2,000 to $3,000 and then stick with $5 and $10 tables. I guess you could say that I play within my means. I don't budget daily and have never come close to running out.

I also have lump sum at the beginning, and it varies depending on how much I've managed to save. I don't limit myself per day, which can be bad if I get a bit too much alcohol in me and go on a bad streak. There have been several times where I've lost most of my money in day one. But I always have a backup plan for that.

    yea...

Solution - ATM! It pays out at 99.4% assuming you withdraw $1000 at a time.

I have detailed amounts when it comes to determining cost per trip, but this is purely room, food, airport parking and other expenses. This makes it pretty easy to create an "expense" budget.

Now the gambling budget is different, I tried to figure out a daily budget.
Once the daily amount is determined I calculate what it comes to for the trip.
If the trip is only 3 days instead of 4 I may increase the daily budget.

I still calculate the total gambling amount and ask myself if I lose it all (i hope never) will I get frustrated.

$3,500. And I don't even use all of it. Probably $1,500 playing at $50/$100 at the baccarat tables. All I do is grind. $300 to $400 per session/table. Do that a couple of times a day next thing you know you got a good chunk of change and head to Joe's for blue stone crabs and steak to celebrate at the end of the trip.

I usually budget $150/day for gambling, but have never spent all of it. Rooms are usually comped (or very low cost). I don't have a set budget for food...usually just do snacks from McDonald's and Walgreens.

I try to stick to $200 in gambling a day but I won't lie, sometimes it hits $300. But I also try to have another $200 a day for food, drinks, shows, and whatever else we end up doing.

    I'm the same really............

    $250 a day for gaming & snack type food/drink.

Dinners & entertainment are seperate but roughly $150 a day.

It all comes from a set 5 day budget which has never been wiped out early. We usually come home with a few hundred dollars in our pocket and on two occasions came home with roughly $1000 which was nice as we had expected to go through all our spending money.

As a couple we budget $500 day for gaming. But as far as cash to carry, It's $500 gaming, $25 tipping, $75 walkaround money, daily. All other expenses go on the credit card, food, souvenirs, grocery supplies, etc. This way we can track what we spent on the vacation and not have to worry about budgeting the cash once we reach Vegas, and it also keeps the amount of cash we carry on the plane to a smaller amount. As much as it hurts a month later we pay in full when the bill comes.

Most usually I have a set amount for a trip of around $2500-$3000 that I am willing to spend. This is usually for a 5 day trip. This weekend I am pretty much taking a similar bankroll but only in Vegas for 3 full days so my per day is higher than past trips. Just hoping I don't reach my daily limit!

I personaly make a list with the things that will cost any money. This means everything that I can think of - hotel, food, flight tickets, shows, tours, etc.

Then I put some extra money to the budget. Lets say 10%, 20% to sometimes 40%.

    That's it.

Remeber, that you always need some extra cash which, just in case.

I budget $50/day for walk around money and $500/day for gambling. I stay and gamble downtown so I don't need a lot of walk around money. As far as meals, I charge them to my room so they are comped and if I am eating somewhere I don't have comps I use my debit card.
