El Cortez Vintage room 14-17 Jan 13 what room do I want?

Booked a trip and a vintage room as a Merry Christmas to me this week. I was looking at flights from ELP and was surprised that I found a US Air flight much cheaper then SWA and around the same flight times. Not a fan of stops, but for the price difference, it paid for the room. My question is what Vintage room do I want? I have spent countless hours throwing dice at the El Cortez, but have never stayed there. It one of my favorite places to play, drink and people watch.

They have a couple of suites on the 3rd floor which are pretty big, and which they offered me for the same price as a tower room which I had booked. I elected the tower room. Ask how much for an upgrade to a cabana suite across the street or a tower room. I tried a Vintage room and found it t be quite adequate for my needs. I stayed there for a couple of nights til a tower room was available. I paid $11/night. The room was small with a small bathroom. I don't do much entertaining in the Bathroom much so that was no problem and I am solo so the vintage room with a queen bed and an easy chair was adequate. Rooms were redone maybe 4 or 5 years age and furnished in 40's motif but it was very clean and well maintained. I think Dewey said walls were thin and he was bothered by someone with a loud tv. I had one neighbor who played one kind of loud but I just put the news on low on mine and it didn't bother me as I sometimes listen to my TV news at home. Others complained that it was smokey. There is no smoking in the upstairs but lot of smoke from the casinos finds it way in the halls. However, the rooms were OK, and I am a non-smoker. Aside from that I have not seen the other rooms. I guess they are much the same, mine had no view which is a non issue for me. I like clean,safe and quiet and at $11/;night it was a bargain and I would never hesitate to stay there again.

If you have a car there are rooms on the east side which have a convenient stairway from the garage. Other than the suites, all of the vintage rooms are small with tiny bathrooms and closets. There are no elevators to these rooms, so be prepared for at least two flights of stairs. I have never been bothered by casino noise or smoke there. Rooms on west side are most convenient to the casino.

 

Thanks for the help. I have my heart set on a Vintage room. After a careful board scrub, I found that there are Vintage suites. Does anyone have a room number/name that I can use at check-in? I am very friendly and can usually get what I ask for. Thanks for the help.

 

Here is the stair reduction trick.
Take the Pavillion Elevator to the Pavillion, 2nd floor. Turn left around the corner and the first door (unmarked) and a half dozen steps will get you on one of the vintage floor and save you one long flight of stairs. My room required no other stairs than those six coming or going.

I loved the rooms until 2AM when it was not one TV but two dueling televisions, one from each side, blasting.
I have not read anyone else had this problem
In other ways it was quieter than the Pavillion where sleeping while the cleaning folks work is impossible since their carts along the passageways outside the door and window sound like small trains even if they don't shout to one another which is highly unlikely.

But I'm sensitive to noise.

Do not remember the numbers but I have stayed in 2 different vintage suites. the best is --Upstairs turn rt turn rt again away from barber shop end of hall door is to the left. Corner room no view large living area with sectional couch, and a large wet bar with fridge. Old school vibe Bugsy was probably in that room at one time.

 

Assuming you don't ask for an upgrade, ask for a room that doesn't face the street if you want less noise. You won't be missing much in terms of getting a view anyway. Although staying Monday-Thursday, you probably won't have to worry as much about street noise.

I like the vintage rooms and would stay there again if I was travelling alone. But midweek in January you have a pretty good shot at getting a free upgrade to the tower by asking.

 

Don't take room 237, it is seriously haunted. The ghosts will watch pay-per-view when you're out of the room. It sounds like you are traveling solo, which is good...I don't mind the vintage rooms, but they are so small I wouldn't share one with my wife.

 

room 237? wasn't that the really bad room in "The Shining?"

I have stayed in the Vintage suites many times, but not for a couple years, my favorite was room 3300.

 

Haha, thanks for the tip. I'm not afraid of ghosts, but don't them running up Plc bill. Even though I plan on owning a piece of the El Cortez by the time I leave. So far, a no on rm 237 and a yes on rm 3300. And yes, I will be solo. My wife is not at all interested in Vegas. But doesn't mind a few trips a year for me. As she gets whatever $ I come home with and I do the laundry. 13 days and counting.
