Have never played but have been learning how to do so for my upcoming trip. Where would be the best place on the strip to give this a try? Any $5 or less tables?

I'm curious about the answer to this as well! I know I read somewhere on here that Aria is good with newcomers, but that's just what I read could be wrong.

I learned to play one early morning when it was pretty quite and the crew was awesome in helping out. Some the casinos will have lessons available at designated times in the morning. I know for sure NYNY does as they have a sign out and I believe I saw this one morning at Flamingo as well.

I know they used to have one at Excalibur, where they have lessons in the mornings. I think they also have $5 tables in the mornings as well.

There are a lot of places that will have $5 dollar early in the day - morning especially. If you don't mind there not being a crowd you can go to most places and stand right beside a stickman and tell them whats going on and to help you. To me - that is the best way to learn craps.

I forget what time NYNY gives the lessons but if you call they will let you know.

Bills has lessons on the craps table. The good thing is that after the lesson is over they open the table up for the beginners ($5 minimums) and let them play and ask questions in a real world environment. Not sure how it is now, this was a few years ago.

As others have mentioned, I would highly recommend lessons for the craps newbies before playing with the regular customers.

Places like casino royale (are they still open?) have $3 minimum tables but I would recommend newbies avoid that place. While it's great to play at a $3 minimum table they are usually packed with regular customers who want to play on $3 tables also. Not as much fun because the play is fast and could be confusing to the newbie. Best to take the lessons and after that play on the regular tables when it isn't that busy (like playing in the morning). That way you can relax and (hopefully) ask the pit crew questions when they don't have other people's bets to concentrate on.

And ya would need to wear a gas mask in theplace because it really gets smoky. HOWEVER that said when i have been there there has always been newbies and virgins that are there, and the dealers are kinda used to them ( at leastthe times i have been there).

I'm pretty sure nyny and Monte Carlo has a lesson table every morning. I think it's 10am but it may be 11. While the aria dealers may be nice, I doubt it will be a $5 game and could be some pretty big betters .
If you really don't know craps at all, definitely do the lesson first. Also most of the casinos on the freemont street will have smaller games and would be good for a beginner. If you know the basic pass line and odds bet, you could jump into a $5 game that's not busy and learn the other bets by watching. Good luck and caution... It's addicting.
I will be at the mirage until the 30th. I could meet up and throw them bones with you

I would also suggest learning a little before you go. There are many online games you can find on facebook, mobile phone downloads, etc that you can use to learn the game and get an idea how you'd like to play the game. Once you get to Vegas don't let the game intimidate you, it's hard to start playing sometimes but once you get in there and just throw a pass line bet or two you'll be hooked.

Lessons are a great way to learn and they will save you a ton of $$$. Have fun and welcome to a great, albeit volatile, casino game.:peace:

    Is $5 min required?

I ask because while I very much agree with going to a lesson, I think getting some advice from a dealer might be good as well. Going up to an empty(close to) table and saying you have never played and are looking for advice works as well.

I fell the lessons go over more bets than new players should care about. That is my only concern with pushing people towards the free lessons.

Not on the Strip but Tuscany a couple blocks away has $5 craps with 3-4-5 odds. If not talking full odds dealers are very helpful as far as what to bet to keep payouts even and answering other questions. Seldom crowded.

    1) Find a site online and play (without real money). Here is one free site:
    http://www.crapsage.com/free_craps.php

    2) Go to a lesson one morning. I agree - Bills is great for a newbie

    3) If you do not find a place with lessons, just go up to a table without a lot of players. Try to get a spot right next to opne of the dealers (not next to the stick-man) and ask for help.

    4) Start this way:
    • place minimum bet on the pass line
    • after the point is made put an equal bet behind the bet (odds)
    • also pick two other numbers (either 4,5,6,8,9,or 10) to "place" minimum bets.
    • Collect your winnings until the seven comes, and then repeat the process.

After a bit, you will be comfortable increasing your bets, betting on more numbers, making occassional bets on the center bets (hardways, horn)

Most important, ignore what everyone else is doing and just follow your own bets.

This is false. There are $5 tables on the strip. Casino Royale, always. Excalibur almost always. NYNY on weekday mornings.

Flamingo and Bally's should also have $5 games during the day.
