Received this strange email offer from Vegas Club for a free room for two weekend nights and $5 free slot play:

    http://hosted.verticalresponse.com/286975/29828e69ed/1558527775/634befa305/

They are steering people to The Plaza for room upgrades and additional nights and the fine print indicates the $10 resort fee for Plaza rooms, but not VC rooms. Obviously this is an open offer available to anyone on their email list as I have not spent a penny here in a couple years. Interesting that you must call with the offer code as the VC website does not accept it.

Seems like a screwy attempt to generate some sort of foot traffic in the place.

I will be at the GN on Feb. 8 - 10 and I'm half tempted to take them up on this as a way to snoop around a little bit. I definitely would be sleeping in my GN Rush Tower bed though.

We got that one too. Five whole dollars!! Better call fast before they're sold out.

It's been at least 5 years since we've checked out their rooms - didn't sleep there though, just booked for a look. Unfortunately it's only for Friday and Saturday and we aren't there for the weekend. Let us know if you check it out. I'd be curious to see what kind a shape their rooms are in now.

Well, I did it ... I booked the room for Feb. 8th and 9th. They do charge the $10 / night "resort" fee even though that was not listed in the fine print of the offer. With tax, it comes to $22 and change. It is a little disconcerting that the email confirmation does not include any pricing whatsoever.

I plan to take and post pictures. I think everyone who has taken that depressing shortcut through the joint to get to The Cal is a little curious about the state of the rooms. But to my surprise, the reservation girl - who happened to have a very cute phone voice - explained to me that the rooms have been "fully renovated." Hmmm... I guess we'll see what they consider fully renovated to mean. Maybe I'll get a room with a new shower curtain or something. If anyone has stayed here recently, please post your thoughts and comments.

My wife does not know I have done this yet. I'm tempted to tell her I cancelled our last two nights at the GN just to see the reaction. :wink2:

If she's got a great sense of humor, that would be funny! I know I'd try to kill my husband so he'd have to tell me very quickly that it's just a joke or he'd be dead. I'd be laughing about it later for sure.

The resort fee does sound like a rip off especially because it specifically says "$10 resort fee for each night stayed at the PLAZA". I'd take a copy of the ad with you and mention it at check-in just in case you got an uninformed clerk on the phone. Anyhow, in the end you'll get your $5 free play so it's only $17. That's pretty cheap for a good joke for your wife!

Looking forward to your pics of the new shower curtain.

So they really are charging the resort fee at the Vegas Club? That is just toooo funny. It would sound better if they would just label it a mandatory internet access fee, as that is the only perk I can think of on property.

No the OP said this, They are steering people to The Plaza for room upgrades and additional nights and the fine print indicates the $10 resort fee for Plaza rooms, but not VC rooms. So to me it sounds like only the PLaza is charging for resort fees.

Sal, just wanted to confirm, did you book vegas club or the plaza? Yes the plaza charges a resort fee but I hope that the vegas club doesn't.

When I was there at the beginning of 2012 they were starting to renovate the vegas club rooms, they had in new carpets already (same ones as the ones at the plaza). They also removed the face plates of the wall sockets so I assumed that they were going to change the wallpaper. Not sure what else they were going to renovate but I hope it wasn't enough that they would start charing resort fees at the vc. :Þ

That video was posted four months ago. Doesn't look renovated in any way, but certainly seems adequate.

looks better than the room I stayed in in 06, I will say that much. The bathroom in that room was the size of a closet and the mirror in the bathroom was about 15 inches in size. Wife was none too happy trying to get ready!

Yep, I booked at Vegas Club and they are charging $10 per night resort fee. I will print out the offer and point out the discrepancy during check-in. Not sure yet how much of an issue I will make out of it. I still find it odd that the reservation confirmation they emailed to me does not have any pricing.

If that is the case, I would raise hell, no way I would ever pay the resort fee the LVC if I could stay at the Plaza for the same price basically! Crazy what they are trying to do!

    Vegas Club

I stayed at the Vegas Club last year and the rooms were not that bad. After 2 days, they called and wanted to move me to the Plaza because the Vegas Club was "shutting down" because it was Monday. Not a big deal, and even turned to be a good thing because they upgraded my room to a suite at the Plaza for moving. The Plaza is a nicer property and I would stay there again. The Plaza has a nice gym and a big rooftop pool which I enjoyed in my April trip. My main complaint about the Vegas Club is that the casino smells really bad. I've never smelled that odor before but every time I got to Vegas and walk by the vegas club, I am reminded each time how bad the place smells. Overall, it's sort of depressing too. The other casinos, such as GN and the Fremont seem to have a more positive vibe if that makes any sense.

Thanks for the video eddie. Looks like you stayed in the north tower (faces the cal). Also doesn't look like it was renovated either.

I stayed in the south tower at the lvc last year. Since that side was the older side I guess they only renovated that tower with new carpeting (hopefully wallpaper also). Anyone stayed recently at the south tower and can give us a review on how the rooms are? I remember the carpets were the same as the plaza, a black and white checkerboard type so I guess they redid as much as they could with the carpet supply they had.

Sal, bummers that you have to pay resort fees at a "dumpy" place like the lvc, they really cannot justify charging a resort fee at a place like that. But then again I would gladly pay the resort fee there if I can stay for free, I mean $11 a night is still a great rate. Wish I could have gotten that rate for my upcoming March trip, all the rates are more than triple that rate before taxes and fees.

As other posters mentioned, you also have a chance of being moved to the plaza since they close off the lvc rooms when it isn't busy, even though you could book the lvc I guess management makes the decision to move you over to the plaza and not use the lvc rooms. I also encountered that so I stayed 4 days at the lvc and another 4 days at the plaza.

Just wondering, has anyone else stayed at the lvc recently and had been charged the $10 a day resort fee? I wonder if it was something they started in 2013. Hopefully it was an error and they don't charge fees but if they charge fees it will also need to be considered when looking for rooms.

I'm already staying at the flamingo a weekend in feb but was thinking of booking a room here just because it's free. If I end up not checking in, lets say I'm out on Friday night and decided I don't want to drive up there form the strip, will I get charged anything? Also anyone know if I can check out without actually being in the building? Like call in? I'm just thinking of just checking out the room while visiting downtown one night.

I guess we will find out just how "Amazing" Johnathan is after stepping into this steaming pile of crap. I have watched Vegas Club deteriorate the past few years, yet I was not expecting to see just how much work needs to be done to this property when I visited here earlier this month. Johnathan certainly has his work cut out for him considering how little these tight-wad owners will likely want to spend on possible renovations. I feel I can call these owners tight-wads because of the amount of disrepair clearly visible around the property. This place is deplorable and an embarrassment. And the fact that the cute-sounding representative who handled my reservations over the phone stated the rooms were "recently renovated" was simply an out-right lie.

Let's back up ... I took Vegas Club up on an email offer for a "free" two-night stay on Feb. 8th and 9th. Actually, I stayed in my GN Rush Tower room and I used the offer as a way to scratch that weird itch I had to see if the VC rooms were in as bad a shape as the rest of the property. So, I was doubled booked those two nights. Thankfully, I didn't cancel my GN room as a way to save 300 bucks!

Anyone who has taken that depressing walk through the back of the VC property has clearly seen the increasing state of vacancy and lack of maintenance - Snack bar, closed; Tinoco's Kitchen, closed; Escalators, out of order; Frisky's Bar, closed. Add to that the vacated hallways with various communication and electrical cables simply dangling from the walls, popping up from the floor and actually wrapped around fire sprinklers(!) shows me just how little these owners care about their property or their customers and does not instill any confidence in their competency or desire to adequately complete whatever renovation plans they may have.

Yet, we pressed onward, curious to what possibly laid ahead. Check-in went smooth and we held our breath a bit as we headed up to our 10th floor room not knowing the service history of the wobbly elevator. But the doors did in fact open and at first glance I was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of the hallway leading to the guest rooms. Newer carpet and no strange odors.

Then I noticed the ice machine with an "out or order" sign taped to it. I made a bet with my wife that, when we return to Vegas this fall, that sign will still be on that ice machine.

Onward to the "recently renovated" Room 1024 ... Well, it had newer carpeting.

The mattresses, bedding, drapes, TV, furniture, plumbing fixtures, peeling wallpaper have not been changed since probably the '80s, or perhaps even longer. Besides the carpeting, the only apparent changes to the room were the removal of artwork and possibly a safe from two of the walls and no effort was ever made to replace those items or to repair the holes in the walls. So it wasn't a shock to see the discoloration of the toilet seat or moldy tile grout in the shower. This is simply how they choose to run their property.

They chose to tell me these are renovated rooms. And they chose to charge me a resort fee for this. The free offer actually cost $22.24, which was a $10 per night resort fee plus tax. It is a tiny sum, yes. But they are not offering any of the amenities of a typical resort.

This endeavor did satisfy my curiosity and the condition of the room was just as I had expected, though whatever soft spot I once had for the Vegas Club is gone until these owners sell to someone who is responsible and competent.
