I am going down 20-23rd. I know march madness will be crazy. I am looking for a sportsbook where we should be able to sit and bet/watch games without having to get there 3 hours before games start those day (only 2 of us). We are staying at Luxor. Any suggestions? Also, would like a place with good drink service and comped if possible. Not looking for a party atmosphere either just to really watch games.

    Thanks

During the opening rounds the books will be crazy full, but it is a great time to be in Vegas. Unfortunately most of them will start to fill up rather early in the day and "comp" drinks will be scarce unless you are betting enough for tickets.

I would honestly look into some of the various parties and events that will be happening. You could always go to a Cantor sportsbook to deposit money and then use their mobile application to place bets anywhere, anytime.

You aren't asking for much, ha ha! You have to get there super early that is pretty much any sports book, good luck with the comps unless you are a High Roller. If you do find this, let me know please

If you want a seta in a book before the opening tip, you have to get there hours in advance. If you don't care about the early games, another good trick is to hover around the sportsbook around lunchtime when the early games are ending. When people get up to cash in or go eat, you can grab some seats

As far as avoiding the larger crowds Bally's sports book has always been a favorite. Hit and miss on comped drinks unless you do some side bets on the ponys. Never over crowded usually have beer specials and a good place to have a cigar.

Does it have to be in a sportsbook? Pick a bar or restaurant and park your butt.

If you choose to park your butt at a bar/restaurant, be aware that some (Lagasse's Stadium and Aria's SkyBox Grill, for example) require a minimum spend (and in some cases, reservations) to sit there for x games/hours. We watched the NFL division playoff games at the Sporting House restaurant (formerly ESPN Zone) at NYNY in Jan 2011. I don't recall if they required a minimum spend (our tab was over $400 for a party of 5). There are a number of bars/restaurants with TVs adjacent to Luxor in the Mandalay Place shops if you want to go that route.

UKFanatic gave you good advice - hang around your chosen sportsbook near lunchtime and you may be able to snag a seat when someone decides to leave.

    Enjoy!!

Bellagio to my knowledge is the only place with comped drinks even with no betting.

I've had good luck getting drink tickets at any CET property(generally 1 per $50-$100).

I have been unable to get tickets from any MGM property during march madness. They seem more lenient on other weekends(or if you are doing the ponies).

As for a seat. It is really going to be hit and miss. You may end up standing for an hour or 2 until a few seats open when some games get over. You do have an advantage with only 2 seats needed.

We are staying at luxor as well, I cannot wait!

Will the books be open late to get bets on the next day games? More so late on weds night, so we can place bets for Thursday after we have settled in?

    What is late?

Anything after 10pm is somewhat hit and miss. I would expect them to be open Thurs-Sat for ~hour after the last game ends.

There are akways west coast NBA games still being played after the college tourney games have ended, so the books are open past the last college final each night

My buddy gets in weds at 9pm. So we were looking at placing bets after 10 most likely. I would think/hope the hours will be extended.

remember that is west coast time so 9pm West coast time is already past midnight on east coast. So wast coast nba games are usually done at around 10 at the latest.

So if you are getting in 9pm it is already midnight and most of the games are already over for that night

They don't really extend hours just for betting. They extend hours because there are games on at that time.

Still decent odds they will be running at 10 or shortly after. They just tend to shut down when noone is around. I doubt there will be many people in the book late on Wed night.

I haven't been there on the day before the tournament begins but I have a hard time believing the sportsbooks wont be open late on that Wednesday. Some will probably be open 24 hours

Your comment makes me think you have been there the days of the tournament. Which books were open 24 hours on Thurs/Friday?

I've simple never seen this. I'm happy to be wrong on this though. I've had to go to the cashier many times around 1-2am to get my money. Much quicker to get it from the sportsbook.

Yes, Caesars and south point are 24/7 books in the valley. Usually superbook at lvh has extended hours I believe too. For the tourney

There are tons of people around on Wednesday night before the tourney in the books and elsewhere. One of the busiest times of the year there. The books open early on Thursday but I have seen the betting lines wrap around the whole book at Caesar's the morning of the tourney before the games begin. There is definitley excitement in the air and it is a really fun time to be in Vegas, nothing like it.
