Are you concerned for their health? These women had all of a bikini on at The D and they LOOKED cold outside.

So I went over to talk to them, and they admitted they were cold. They say, the manager said we had to work tonight. I headed straight to the bartender who was next to them to ask to speak to the manager.

She too admitted that even she was cold with two layers of Alaskan-like coats on. She said the managers (woman and a man) just went up the escalators.

So....I went to hunt down the manager(s). I went up the escalator and asked the bartender there for the manager, and lo and behold the man standing right next to me was the manager.

I extend my hand to him and compliment his establishment but tell him that the half-naked women on a freezing night would not look good to tourists. And expectedly he gets on defense.

He says, they want the job so they do the job. And I says, but they look like they are freezing and they do not look happy. And he says, there are industrial heaters under them to keep them warm. And I says, have you tried those heaters? And he says, they are state-certified. They have run several tests on it. And I says, not to be raw, but have you tried it half-naked? And he says, look, they are not sex slaves. And I says, well you might want to clear up the perception.

The conversation eases out, with him saying that he has girls at GG and The D and they are not complaining. I tell him I was just at GG for 4 hours and I did not see dancing girls outside. I think i may have gotten someone in trouble because apparently there was supposed to be hot dancing girls freezing in the dead of the winter over there TOO.

I never checked for those girls again at night but on my way out I told them that I told their manager that it was unacceptable and they looked grateful. Plus, another tourist happened to walk by at that moment saying to the girls that "It's not worth your life ladies!" (of course implying that they are killing themselves for a job). There is nothing hot about "freezing" ladies.

    What say you?

It's too bad that with today's economy, the playing field is tilted so much in favor of employers, particularly those who take advantage of their employees. :(

Quite! This is certainly poor management decisions to another degree. That he saw no problem with it was mind-boggling for me. They could have at least given them fake furs, which would have drastically lessened the look (and experience) of their condition.

I tried to make it clear that I was not offended by the ladies themselves (it is Vegas after all) but the fact that they would be out there in the freezing cold like that. My first reaction was horror. Otherwise, I would not have been propelled to take such drastic action on my vacation about something that does not directly impact me.

At a point they cross the line of entertainment into danger.

I dont want anyone sacrificing their comfort and possibly health in the spirit of entertainment. I am probably their focus market, male 30's, but I have to tell you I would not expect dancing girls in the freezing cold for my benefit.

Kudos to you for speaking up!!

I wonder how much they get paid to do that?

.Wonder if they're union or have some sort of employment contract? He does sound like a rotten guy ,probably the type who never wants anyone to question his authority or judgement and whose theory of management is "you dont like your job quit".

Please don’t forget that there is the question of available work. It could have also be the choice of the dancers that they wanted to make some money. If they were hired to dance and that is what their job is, it could have been a choice of, if they wanted to work that night, they had to dance. You said the manager said it was “their choice”; he was not making them do it. When working construction, you are hired to do a job. When weather gets bad, some don’t work, but they also don’t get paid. The dancers may have chosen to work and get paid rather than not work and not get paid.

My wife and I were downtown two weeks ago during our annual Christmas trip and witnessed the same thing. Being a heterosexual man, I love to see beautiful women in bikinis. however, all I could think of in looking at them was "my god, aren't they freezing". I thought it was ridiculous to have them dancing on the bars in temps below 40 degrees.
They have temperature limits for the Treasure Island performers, why not the dancers?

The sad part is that those ladies dont use the talents in minds to find a job but instead go for the easy shaking it route.

Maybe some cold weather will give them some clarity to reconsider their carreer paths.

P.s. they make a lot of money doing it, thats why there is a line of people waiting for that job.

cap, thanks! I'm glad the intended audience sees what I am saying here. It's truly wild.

jerseyguy, he was not exactly rotten. Defensive (of his establishment), not understanding but not just rude completely. He at least let me talk; he didn't shut me down. Maybe a little less symp/empathetic but he seemed like the type of person who would make a change if he saw an actual problem with it. If it hurt his business of course, the change would be clear. He seemed at least like a light bulb went off while we were talking but I am not sure whether or not it's in favor of the girls.lol He may not be rotten but your description of him sounds perfect. SO if that's rotten, then yeah. He probably does not want someone to question his authority but rarely does anyone. But enough comments from others, he would probably consider it.

iskion, the workers suggested that they made comment to the managers about the weather but that the managers suggested they work. So, they did decide to get paid and thus work outside to do so. I am just suggesting that the managers provide sexy warm coats. That way the dancers are cool (read: warm) and the tourists are not looking on in horror. Though I forgot to mention the coats idea! Shucks.

nuggetboy, yeah, I even told the girls, you ladies look great but you look cold. The problem is you just can't get past the fact that they look cold! So, I am certain even a man (or anyone really) who may find them attractive may feel like it's like watching somebody who is wounded. Hot but not so hot.

Comments like this will only get the poor girls laid off. It's blazing hot all summer, maybe they shouldn't be "forced" to dance when it's over 100 degrees?

I've considered this and felt bad after the comments for this possibility.

You can splash water on yourself....continuously. They usually have the spraying mist. Summer is made for that attire. Over 100 degrees is still uncomfortable nevertheless but freezing is just painful the whole time.

You might think they are freezing, but I offered to warm them by sharing body heat and they said no.

    So I think they're fine.

You're barking up the wrong tree on this. Quite frankly, this is between management and the employees.
While we may be symphathetic to the plight of these employees, it is none of our business to interfere with.

True, but management's attitudes and practices are influenced by their customers. The assumption they are working under is that the current practice appeals to their customers. If they find out that may not be the case, or that a customer suggestion (such as warmer but still "sexy" outfits) might make sense, they may make a change. I enjoy the "sexy" dealers and have lost more money at a table than I wanted to because the dealer was engaging. But I also was turned off by the girls working outside in the cold when I was there in November. Like sco5123, it just seemed like mistreatment.

And, sco5123, a shout out for your comments in general. You seem to be a keen observer and participant in what you are experiencing. Good insight and entertaining. You seem like you'd be fun to hang with in Vegas, or probably anywhere. I hope your friends are worthy.

I have to agree with chef on this. Not sure why you want to make it your issue when it isn't really your business and you aren't affected by it other than feeling sorry for someone doing their job.

Of course you probably didn't think of the repurcussions of your discussions with management. Say that you fight for the girls to try to get better working conditions. How would you feel if you later read in the newspaper that x number of girls were laid off for the winter months because sco and others complained about the girls looking cold or working in unsafe conditions? The girls can make their own choices, it's unfortunate but I am sure that there are probably other girls that will jump at the opportunity to work and get paid.

sorry, I'll get off my soap box now but I do not question anyone else working at a job and I'm sure that many of them are happy that they are getting paid in this economy.

by the way, I was also at the D in october, the casino was very cold and the girls also looked cold so it didn't matter the season outside, it was just part of their job and the casino keeping temps low.

I was under the lights at the GG when the girls were dancing on the bar outside. I commented to one of the girls that it was freezing and how could they dance in very little when it was so cold. The girl helped me sit on top of the bar, even though I was way below the heaters I still felt the heat, they said that it was actually hot when they stood up and danced.

I don't know, maybe you should leave it up to the girls to make their own decisions, you never know the repurcussions of your actions that have no impact on you or your life.

The same persons who postulate that my comments could have made a huge difference would just as easily say that I am making no difference. Devil's advocacy is your right.

Thanks Marks for your kind remarks! :D LOL @ funny remarks

It's funny, and it may not seem so, but I am also looking out for the manager. I kept stressing that it "does not look good" from the tourists' perspective, with the insinuation "protect your business". Now, he could be a jerk and get rid of everyone, or he can think more strategically. Or, likely, it's just business as usual.
