Things for non gamblers to see/do?

I'd like to hear your recommendations for activities for non-gamblers please! DH and I will be going to Vegas to be alone for a few days. This is our first trip in 8 years! We've been married for 20 years and have never had a honeymoon so I'm trying to make this trip as special as possible while working with a limited budget.

Anyway, he's not much of a gambler and we don't drink much at all. I'd like to find a comedy show that's pretty clean (if possible).

As far as sightseeing, we've never done anything except the fountains at Bellagio and the Caesar's forum shops.

I'd like to go out for a nice steak dinner while we're there but unless I can find something for under $100 I'm giving up on that.

Any advice is welcome. Thank you in advance

Its PJ clarkes restaurant in the Caesars forum shops. 3 course dinner and a bottle of wine for $99. It was very good for the price.

Also, I would say try to get downtown once night and see the fremont street experience (it does get crowded and a fair amount of drinking). or even check out downtown during the day if you dont want to deal with the crowds(it is so quiet and layed back compared to the nightime).

 

Hoover Dam, Valley of fire, Red Rock Canyon.....You can rent wheels and do those yourself.

 

if you are worried about spending $100 on dinner or hearing a curse word in a comedy act, perhaps you are spending time in the wrong town? Disney is in California and Florida.

 

It depends what you like to do. There are the secret gardens and dolphin pool at the Mirage, the Shark Pool at MB, the Old Morman Fort in North LV,There is the Mob Museum, the Children's Museum, and the Museum of Natural Science, the Wax museum, several production shows, head liners, the world's largest gold nugget on display, street vendors downtown, the light show, Buffalo Bill's train cars downtown, The bird Sanctuary at the Flamingo, and the list goes on and on. See some afternoon shows, they are usually inexpensive and fun. Get a coupon in the ACG or LVA and get 50% off your steak dinners at El Cortez' Flame (Max $25.) There is a lot of things to do and they change all the time, that's why we all keep going back!

I personally just don't like to hear the F bomb every 10 seconds or a lot of sexual humor. A lot of comedians are very raunchy. Others are just as funny without all that.

I'm a chef and even I don't like spending $100 on a dinner for 2. I'm sure there are some places where a good steak dinner can be had for under that amount.

I think I remember Hurricane Mikey recommending one but I can't seem to find it.

For your steak, look into Charlie Palmer Steak at the Four Seasons (next to Mandalay Bay). They have the "Cut of the Week" special where, for $48 per person, you get app, entree, sides, and dessert. They also throw in unlimited wine. The cut you receive as your entree changes weekly. Check the menu the week you are going to see what is being served that week. It's definitely the best deal you'll find and the only way to have a complete dinner within your price range.

A clean comedy club doesn't sound like something very appealing. Maybe you could look into Mac King's afternoon comedy magic show. You can look around for free tickets with drink purchase or buy tickets from Tix4Tonight. It's a short 60-minute show with some impressive small-scale (doesn't mean bad) magic. Always a good time. Nathan Burton also does comedy magic and also can be had for free, but Mac King is the better choice.

There's plenty to do for non-gamblers. Will you have a car? If no car, you can buy day passes for the Deuce buses that travel up and down the strip. Having a car would be much better though. Some random ideas off the top of my head:
-Pick a central location and just walk around exploring. Park at Cosmo or Paris since you can easily walk around and to other casinos.
-Big Elvis at Harrah's
-buy a slice of white pizza from the secret pizza place on 3rd floor of Cosmo
-Pinball Hall of Fame
-Neon Graveyard
-shopping at the Las Vegas Premium Outlets (go to the North side one)
-Red Rock Canyon
-bowling at one of the Station Casinos after midnight for $1 games
-Go to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night to watch Bellagio fountain show from new perspective
-Classic Car collection at Imperial Palace
-Shelby factory tour
-Ethel M Chocolate Factory (only if really bored...not really worth the drive)
-Conservatory at Bellagio
-Go relax at a dueling pianos lounge (most laid-back would be Napoleon's at Paris)
-spend an afternoon on Fremont Street. Maybe check out Insert Coin
-relax! explore! don't plan too much!

-Milos at Cosmo has a $20.13 three-course lunch
-Comme Ca at Cosmo has a $19.99 three-course lunch
-PJ Clarke's at Forum Shops has a happy hour with $1 freshly shucked oysters
-The Palm at Forum Shops has a very good happy hour with each item at $4.95
-Max Brenner at Forum Shops for decadent chocolate desserts. They have happy hour and late night happy hour where you can sample some of the most popular chocolate dishes for $6 each.
-Frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity outside Caesars
-Tonkatsu ramen at Monta Ramen in Chinatown for the best $7 bowl of ramen you'll ever have
-Boiling Crab or Hot N' Juicy in Chinatown (I'd pick Boiling Crab)
-Komex in Chinatown for Korean/Mexican fusion (tacos, burritos, etc)
-Bachi Burger near the airport for asian-inspired burgers
-Icepan at Harrah's for custom made ice cream
-Firefly for affordable tapas that are excellent. Be sure to order the stuffed dates (I hate dates, but I'd eat 20 of these!).
-Cafe Bellagio serves a very decent meal at a very decent price in a very decent location with a very decent view of the conservatory!
-Check out the early dinner three-course meals at the Aria fine dining locations. You can eat at Sage for $49 or $59.

Okay, that's get you started. It's just random stuff I thought up and in no particular order. Figure if I throw you enough things, a couple have to be good, right?

 

Thanks for all the ideas! We've never really planned a trip before, just spent most of the time working a trade show and nights gambling. This time, I'd like to see more of the sites. We've taken the bus in the past, no problem there. We haven't been downtown at all yet so it's a must this trip. We won't have a car. We usually stay at the Orleans and just use the shuttle and the deuce for transportation.

 

Without a car, you'll be somewhat limited. I would definitely recommend The Flame at the El Cortez for your steak dinner. If you are willing to do lunch instead, the businessman's lunch at The Palm in the Forum Shoppes is a fantastic deal. 3 courses for $26 with a nice atmosphere and great service. Another must for lunch is Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris. Get there around 3 and get patio seating to enjoy the Bellagio fountain sho while you dine. The Steak Frites can't be beat. Hit the Fremont Street Experience late afternoon and catch all the light shows, and the live entertainment. It's a very walkable area, so you can wander from place to place and take it all in. Don't miss the interior of Main Street Casino, with all it's hard wood, brass and antiques. There's a huge chunk of the Berlin Wall in the men's room near the buffet.

 

Mike Hammer's comedy magic show at 4 Queens, 7pm Tues-Sat. Pretty clean, entertaining, and you can get tickets for under $20. Ask for discount vouchers at their Player's Club counter.

 

Since I go an average of 5 times a year, I like to find different things to do...

I've really enjoyed the Neon Boneyard, so interesting to hear about Vegas history! I think it's like $15-20 a person.

The 13 mile driving loop at Red Rock canyon, amazing! So beautiful (make sure it's a nice day when you go). It's only $7

Shopping at Town Square, also a great movie theatre there.

Shopping at either outlet mall.

For shows I love Carrot Top it's really reasonable! So so so funny! It's not too dirty.

Steak, I'm not too sure, but a lot of the fancy places have price fix menus that should fit your budget!

 

If you're a fan of Pawn Stars or Rick's Restorations, check out the pawn shop or restoration shop. They aren't all that in person, but still fun to see, and the occasional celeb sighting makes it fun too. I got a kick out of just being in the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, even though no one I recognized was working. The line seems to be shorter later in the day (e.g. late afternoon).

 

Go up in the Stratosphere tower just before sunset on a weeknight.
Find a bench.
Sit and be patient.
Hold hands.
See Vegas in the day time.
See it very gradually change and become a different vision after dark.
