Ok I have a question. Hope you guys can help me.

Me and a friend of mijn are going to LV in march this year for a 2 week trip.
We got a nice hotel booking through hotels.com were we are staying in THEsuite at THEhotel for about 2000 dollars incl tax and resortfee for the 14 nights.

Now we are planning on playing Blackjack and have a gamblingbudget of $6000 combined.
We will be playing for an average of $20 a hand per person for an average of 6 hours a day. So combined $40 a hand for 6 hours a day.
Now I read in a lot of post and reviews that it's possible to get comps incl free rooms. The site of Mandalay Bay even says that if you bet an average of $25 for 4 hours you get discounts or even free rooms with their VIP experience.

Now here is the question. With the betting pattern we are planning to have during the trip should I call some hotels (we are looking for a 4* hotel or up so lets say Monte Carlo and better) to see what they can do for us in discounted or free rooms or should I count my blessings with the booking I have with hotels.com which can not be comped but can be cancelled.

Hope you guys can help me out in what to do. Call hotels to see what to do or just be happy with the great deal I got and try to get comps in diners and shows when I'm there and play there and try to get good offers for the next trip.

    Thanks for the advice.

Wow, kind of not sure where to start here ...

You're really planning to play blackjack 6 hours a day for 14 straight days?

Your plan of calling up hotels is unlikely to work. If you don't have a play history somewhere, just telling them what you expect is unlikely to get you anything. Best you'll get is quoted a rate and told they'll see what they can take off the bill at the end of your trip.

Might be worth talking to someone at MB though and finding out what rate you can get booking straight through them, so its more compable at the end.

Also, be aware that $20 could be an awkward average bet amount. Depending on the property, your base bet, and the pit boss, you might not get rated at all, and you might not acquire much in comps.

Are offers for future trips important for you at all?

    Hi Nevyn,

Thanks for the advice. Yes we are planning on playing this much BJ. We are kind of crazy. LOL

I think you are right about the option of calling hotels for a rate. I might call THEHotel to see what is the best rate they can offer.
I will keep the bet average in mind since I want to get rated off course since this helps in the comps. :)

Offers for future trips are not that important, but is nice to know since this will prob not be the last trip we are making.

Offcourse raising it to $25 each is possible but Iam just wondering how that works. The same room can be occupied by someone that is alone and playing $25 hands that DO get rated. Would we have to play $25 each to get the same goal ? (roomwise, offcourse we get points)

With that kind of action, make sure you have a players card wherever you stay, and use it every time and make sure you are be rated. At the end of you trip, see a players club representative BEFORE you check out. I wouldn't be surprised if you get your hotel bill cut in half. If you are both staying in the same room, make sure your play is rated together on one player's card.

I don't think $20.00 will get you rated. Maybe each of you do $40 at 3 hours per day?

I would have almost just booked for 5 or 7 days up front, found a property or properties (MGM, CET) to do the bulk of my play at and play hard for the first few days and see what kind of deals those properties could have offered. CET will let you and your friend use both accounts when looking at your rate so a lot of time it works out better. My wife whom has an account but has never once used it at CET properties, I always add as a companion as a lot of times it will take me from paying $100 for a 3 or 4 day trip to having the whole thing comped.

I'm not sure I get exactly what you mean.

I should first clarify that I don't know for certain that MB does have a minimum bet to get rated or what it is. I have heard about the mlife properties having them, but can't say for sure its at $25. But you should be aware and ask a pit boss if you are planning on comps. especially when you are talking about hundreds of hours of play.

Once you play at a level where they do rate you, they'll keep track of how much you played and your average bet, and that determines what you get in comps. At mlife properties they give you a certain amount in "express comps", and there there are additional amounts you may or may not be able to talk them into taking off (primary comps).

So if two of you play for 6 hours at $25/hand (and they let you both apply your comps to the room ... Im not sure how this works at mLife), you'd earn twice the comps of one person alone in the room doing the same thing.

But, for example, if you both played 6 hours a day at 20/hand, and the other guy was playing 25, and the pit boss didn't rate you because of the size of your bet, the one guy would get some comps and you'd get diddly.

Again, I'd just confirm with the pit boss what you need to play at to get rated before putting your money down.

Doing the math, do you think 2 people paying blackjack can both play $20 per hand for 6 hours a day with $214 each per day? Now I'm sure at some point you'll get on a winning streak, but 200 per day each may not cut it for that length of time. You may be into day seven money on the second day. Don't ask me how I know this.

That would be another reason to just go for the rate we have through hotels.com and just see how much we can comp off food/show that we charge to room without feeling forced to play for comps.

If it wasnt clear yet, Iam the one travelling with him :)

Thanks everyone for al the advice. We know what to do now. We will keep the reservation for now.
Since as some say if we do not play the time we say we do not want trouble with not getting comps.
    thanks again.

If your room is paid for through a 3rd party website - you can bet a million dollars. They will not be able to comp you. Book through the hotel.

TheHotel is a bit upper end hotel. And, MB is at the end of the strip.

Minimum you should play is $25 a hand. Not $20.

14 days in Vegas is a LONG LONG time and we love it there. I would at least consider one hotel change. In fact, if you book 4-6 nights, and then call one of the other MGM properties, they might do something based on that play.

Unless you are one VERY skilled, and VERY lucky player, this money is not gonna last.

$3000 over 14 days is $214 a day. I can see many people blowing through $214 inside of a half hour.

Well, that really depends on how they budget it.

If they just give themselves 214 each a day for a max of six hours, they'll often bust way before their six hours are up. But they are still unlikely to lose it all, they'll have a couple good days.

If they budget something like 400-500 per day and stop at 6 hours, they have a decent shot of the money lasting through the trip, as they will have several days where they last the six hours, and can carry that budget over to another day. They could end up short, and they likely will still have 2-3 days where they blow through the daily budget long before six hours.

If they don't budget daily and keep rebuying to get to six hours each day, there's probably a slightly better than even chance they'll blow through it all.
