I was at a crap table for about an hour when a guy bought in on my right. Apparently he used to be a regular and had not been there in a while. First of all he came in during the middle of a hot roll. Then he starts asking the dealers if other people still work there, etc. Hey, buddy, we are all trying to pay attention to our hard earned money on the table, not if a dealer had a baby or went to another casino. Once the shooter 7'd out I figured he was going to put more money on the table and would have to pay attention. Oh no, now he's conversing with the pit boss. I think the dealers were also losing patience with this guy and were starting to give very short answers. It was driving me crazy. I was up a few hundred at the time so just had to walk away. I might have stayed if this guy shut up. I like having fun with the dealers, some have great personalities, but not to the point it interferes with the game.

I've been playing craps for at least 20 years and never run into this. Was I too hasty? Should I have said something? I don't like confrontations with strangers, but my cash is on the line.

Also, some people just love to hear themselves talk... they're the ones I always seem to end up sitting behind on the flight to Las Vegas :) :) :)

Otherwise, there isn't really anything you could have said: he has a right to talk as much as he wants and as long as its not rude, insulting, coarse language or such then there isn't much the casino can do either.

You could ask him to shut up or pipe down or something like that, but if he does/doesn't it'd be entirely up to him and would probably just lead to a scene or animosity growing at the table.

I hate when it's the BJ dealers yapping too much..Happened to me twice in Tunica few weeks ago..Harrahs was a lady and did not shut up 'rooting' for my hands and I had a lousy run whole time...then at the Roadhouse, alternating dealers -one's first night and a Snoop Dog look-alike who even snoop himself would say shut the F up and just deal the cards..only annoying thing about the new guy-he would announce your count every hand.hit..Like he was dealing to the blind..but fresh out of school..My first time in MS so maybe they all are chatty,I'm just used to AC/LV where it's pretty much Hi,nice hit, thanks for the tip etc..minor convo during shuffle.

I know not craps, but the most fun I have ever had at a BJ table was a bunch of us having a raucous time, including the dealer. But, like I said- it was pretty much everybody at the table- not just one guy. That is annoying.

I guess the best answer is: It depends.

-On how busy the table is. If there are more than 2/3 on the dealer's end, STFU and deal.

-On how good/weak the dealer is. Is he still going efficiently and most importantly CORRECTLY about his business?

-On how involved the story is. Shooting the shit about the weather/football/standard 'how you doing' stuff is ok. Involved political commentary is not. Nor is a protracted bad beat story.

Unfortunately unless you want to cause a scene, you are kind of at the mercy of Chatty Kathy. :grrr:

You can say something like, "Hey, we're trying to concentrate here. Let's just shoot some craps." But it's always a buzz kill no matter how gently it is said.
I hate being superstitious, but anything that disturbs 'the force" will usually cause me to color up. Just the nature of the beast.

Unless someone is being rude or obnoxious, I personally prefer a talkative table. Especially when the dealer is on a roll, some people don't look like they're having a good time when playing. Its much more fun to play with a chatty daler than one who doesn't talk and just flips cards at warp speeds.

The Bellagio dealers are so guilty of this. Early in the mornings I tend to play one on one so over seven years I've become familiar to them. So, most of the time extended chat is ok when we're one on one, but when the table fills up they still continue to talk to the point where they're not dealing the hands or are slowly dealing them, I can feel the table get frustrated with that. That's when I give short answers or pretend my phone is vibrating and I have to step up and take a call.

I swear sometimes I think it's just best to be cold and not take their bait and chat.

It's strictly the personalities of the people at the table. This includes the employee's. It's a free society so both opinions rule. If it is not your style of play (either way), you have to move on. Players are immune to other players likes or dislikes, be it an individual or an entire table.

Any mention of politics will immediately get me to leave a table. I don't want to hear about it at all during a vacation.

Gaming is a social time for me... don't mind chatter at all...but then to be fair, I'm not riskin' major dough either. I hear ya about politics though, these days that conversation goes in toilet quick. Not really into overly or annoyingly chatty folks, nor am I into the "downer" types that feel cause they're havin' a bad day, everyone around them has to walk on eggshells. Ughhhh.... hit the bricks bub... go find a quiet corner and lick your wounds alone.

All casino table games are social in nature. However, there are times when unnecessary chatter would be annoying, especially at hot and busy craps tables where concentration by dealers and gamblers are high.

I guess at times like those ignoring the chatterbox is the best thing to do and hopefully they'll catch the drift.

At the craps table, chirpy guys can drive me nuts, whether I'm winning or losing. But it's really subjective -- amusing banter or mindless chirping.

I'm with you, especially about people who don't look like they're having a good time when playing. That's much more of a buzzkill for me than someone who is talking my ear off. I'm there to have fun, win or lose. Granted that losing blows but if its making you miserable and that upset it means you were in over your head from the beginning.

I like a vocal table at blackjack. It's a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

If it was a "hot" table I bet you wouldn't mind the chatter and wouldn't care about who is saying what.

The Craps dealers are pretty impressive with keeping track of all the bets and payouts and doubt a single person tossing constant questions toward them would cause a problem.

I like a lively table and talking to and with the dealers is part of the fun. However, people should be cognizent of the rhythm of the game. After a seven out, after a point is made or right after a point is set - that is a good time for talk because it is a natural break in the action. And yes, there are some regular dealers I will ask about the family or visa-versa. However, once a point is made and people have their initial bets down, the rolls (should) come pretty fast and furious: roll, payout, collect, press up, then the next roll. Keep the dice moving. If there is time for idle chatter during this part of the game, something is usually wrong.

I find dealers that announce the total on the hand and after every hit card annoying as well. One time I asked "Can you do it without saying the number every time?" and he stopped doing it right then and there without an argument. It is highly likely that this is how this dealer was trained, the thinking being that the players always want this procedure.

I must have a sign on my back that says "ASK ME HOW TO PLAY CRAPS, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!" I seem to get the ones that are just walking by. You know... walking by and then the table hits a point and laughing/clapping ensues. IMMEDIATELY, they come to me... "How do you play this game?" ..."Did you just crap out? I love that one. Crap out? Okay... So you've never played. No problem. But when I have several bets on the table, please just let me be and kindly ask a dealer how to play the game. I have no problem explaining things, but when I say for the umpteenth time to keep your hands high, LISTEN!
