I'm not sure if she was using Freeplay or not, but with any Freeplay, you have to put in at least $1 (or the amount you want per spin, $3 in Megabucks case I believe) so the machine can actually spin... With all Freeplay, if it is a losing spin, you receive the amount of your bet back, so you are actually betting your own money each time, it's just the casino basically reimburses you after each spin.

The above explanation as to inserting cash is true - SOMETIMES. Some casinos do not require any cash to use freeplay. MGM does. CET does not.

At M, when you use freeplay it transfers the amount from your card to the machine. If you have $50 free play, for example, you can transfer any increment of $5 up to $50 into the machine.

You do that at MGM as well. But, you still have to play cash first, then get bonus/freeplay after EACH spin.

    Drifting, Let's Re-Phrase this post

    Wow, this post has drifed.

I have used FP in casinos, $10,000+ over the years,
so yes i get how it works.
Thanks for the Instructive "how to use freeplay posts"
Sorry for my lack of Lazer like focus.

    Back to Freeplay:
There were common instructions in every casino, where Freeplay was won, Earned or Awarded, in L.V., Reno, Lake Tahoe,
Laughlin, Primm, Searchlight hell even in Virgina City, A Unified single phrase was used at every location:
YOU CAN'T USE FREEPLAY ON W.A.P. MACHINES!
    This being said:
    1. How Did someone Win using Free Play,
the largest W.A.P. Slot Jackpot in all the casinos in Nevada?
When Free-play on W.A.P is supposedly not allowed* ?

    2. Did "M" Violate the I.G.T.'s Megabucks subscriber contract, by allowing Freeplay on a WAP machine, that resulted in an over $17 Mil jackpot?
Will this result in a "we will see you in court"?

    * Where even a novice slot player knows, your not allowed to use freeplay on WAP machines,
they drone this into your head every single time you win freeplay,
it even says on the "how to use freeplay Card", "Freeplay on W.A.P. Machines not allowed"
a Nuub $17,300.000.00 mistake or Hideous Error by "M"?, Collusion by "M"?
(did "M" Not update their software, to disallow this forbidden activity?)

Casino Industry people, please by all means chime in.

    Drifted? For sure.

Pretty sure NOBODY here knows if she used freeplay, or if there is an issue. So, with ZERO knowledge, the posters go nuts..... ROFLMAO

(to add to the issue, she could have used some freeplay on another machine, won a little and cashed out, then used the TITO on this machine and won. The vast majority of people would state they used freeplay to win, when in reality, they are NOW using cash)

I believe you are reading into it that she used her freeplay to play the machine. The way I read that article, she recieved a couple of vouchers in the mail and decided to go to the casino that day to redeem them and played the Megabucks machine while there.

When they tell you 'you can't use your Freeplay on progressive machines', it's because those machines won't ACCEPT Freeplay. It isn't like you can force it to use Freeplay when it's programmed not to. If this particular casino accepted her Freeplay in that machine, the spins are valid.

I think the reasoning is that with Freeplay the casino isn't getting real money through the machine and the progressive will get bumped up anyway by those spins, so the progressive meter is going up without any real cash being risked.

Many properties won't allow free play on progressives as they have to give a piece of the action to IGT (or other supplier of the game). They'd rather dictate that free play is done on machines where they keep 100%. That way if a player loses the freeplay on a house owned machine, they don't lose anything. The M has decided to not make this in house rule and give the player a choice of any machine in the house. The Palms does a similar thing on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays when they give either 1 or 2 free spins on Megabucks (depending on your qualifying play). Long story short....nothing to worry about for the winner.
