Slots The Disappearing Slots on the Wynncore Floor

We just got back from LV after staying 4 nights at Wynn. We've stayed there 4 times in the last 6 months and have noticed a gradual but steady removal of slot machines from both the Wynn floor and the Encore floor. For this trip, they have taken rows of machines and turned them into a circle of 4 machines (4 machines in a row back to back for a total of 8 just became 4 machines.

Additionally, they have almost no Wizard of Oz machines anymore and haven't upgraded to Clue or any of the newer slots that are out. The aisles are so wide now that you could drive a bus through them. I would bet that they have reduced the total machine count by at least 1/3 in the last year.

I recognize that this likely saves them money in machine rentals, but when do you reach the point where you stop removing them?

We're seriously looking at spending more time at Aria and Cosmo now and making far fewer trips to Wynn. Aria and Cosmo both have premium slot floors with the latest games and lots of machines.

Anyone else notice this change over the last year or so?

And, I sure wish they would stop pushing the Vegan menu on me at every restaurant....geez......that gets old really fast. :Þ

My g/f is vegan, and I eat nothing but steak and other red meats, so it works out well to go to a few of the restaurants to eat whenever we're there.

Couldn't disagree more. I'm a carnivore, and I love the vegan offerings that Wynncore offers. They are healthy, delicious, and quite varied. I could quite happily live on their vegan offerings, they are that good. But I don't have to.

I think it's great that at least a few places around the Strip are making sure that all of their patrons have a chance to dine at the very fine end of the scale.

 

Not to hijack the post, but 99.9% of the restaurants in Vegas seem to be steakhouses anymore. I've never heard a vegetarian complain about that.

 

I don't know how this thread became about vegan food, but to answer your question, Nevada casinos with at least 15 slot machines pay $250 per year taxes on each machine. It doesn't seem like much, but I have always thought it seemed like most casinos have way more slot machines than they need. If you can make the same amount off less then why not reduce. I heard a number on a podcast recently that I will have to look up, but they said the number of slot machines in Nevada went down by I think it was something like 4000 in the past year.

Yes, back to the slot machine thing. Seems a bit strange if they took that many out. For those that have been there, are the machines getting use?

We went through a casino in Lake Tahoe once that apparently was in serious trouble. Well over half their slots were gone. As a result, it was not enjoyable to sit done in a wasteland to play slots. And that lead to even less revenue.

Has Wynn priced themselves out of business?

 

Thanks for the info--had no idea it was that much money per machine. I've seen small reductions in costs in just about everything....poorer quality red wine on the floor, fewer cleaning people servicing the machines at night (although still the cleanest machines in Vegas), etc. I'm sure they've taken out at least 500 if not more machines in the last year or so. And, the continued degradation of the vp paytables....6 months ago, you could find 9/6 DDB....now the best is 9/5 up to and including $2 denominations.

I even saw some 7/5 $5 bonus poker!

 

The machines at Wynncore are mostly EMPTY. In all the times I have been there in both establishments they just sit there taking up space. Most folks are mostly at the tables and many times those are empty too. Which for me is great since I enjoy playing alone.
