Do you know what the ratio is of your losing trips versus your winning trips?

I've kept track of my gambling for several years and knew I was down overall but also see that I've had more winning trips than losing trips (both in Vegas and locally combined). But lost more overall then I've won. A lot of it is due to hit-and-run type sessions I have locally where we only stay for a night and I find it easier to quit while I'm ahead -- even if its not by much.

In last 8, I have had one minor winning trip, and two basically break evens. I am not a big gambler, so not much of a swing either way, think hundreds, not thousands. As is typically the case the first trip me and my wife at the time couldnt lose, it was like we were staying at a big giant ATM (PH), truly surreal. Of course that didnt last into the next trips!! My last Sept. trip it took a football bet to get me even and I was very happy with that.

I know I have had more winning trips than losing trips. Until a year and a half ago, I estimated I was down a couple thousand over the prior seven years (very happy with that result considering how mnay trips I had taken over those seven years). But over the past year and a half, I am way up, mostly through lcuk and good bankroll management. Hoping the trend will continue, I am going to start keeping better track of this info in 2013

I have always noticed I usually came home ahead until I started playing table games. Prior to that I only played poker. Going back to the poker only mentality this next trip.

My trip is always a couple of days too long. I've had two winning trips, and the rest losers. The last three I have been up a day or two before leaving, then all three times I have been crushed the last day. Not that I necessarily raise the stakes, but I try to play a little more fearless (using the "scared money never wins" theory, when in reality, I do better while playing with scared money).

I'm about 6 to 4 losers to winners. But the losing trip amounts are usually about 25-30% more than the winning trip amounts, sometimes even 100%.

Of my seven trips, two winners and four losers, with one break even. One winner was big, two losers big.

I have been on the losing end the last few trips. But not major losses a few hundred.

Since both my wife and I travel together, and she has hit quite a few jackpots, most just over $1200, but several over $4k, in the past, I have tracked all our gambling with detailed spreadsheet for tax purposes, and to have an idea of how were doing overall. We have completed 12 trips to vegas and on those 12 Trips, we have combined for one winning trip, just over 5 figures. The other 11 have all been losses combined, mostly the wife may break-even, or win, or lose some, and I usually have lost lots. Still love gambling in vegas compared to my local (A/C) casinos. But I seem to win more often though nothing to write home about, and that is probably more to do with what JD said initially, my A/C trips are day trips for 4 hours at most 6.

I was just commenting to my wife that we never really win in Vegas and I read a lot of people on here seem to or at least do not seem to lose to much. Hope that changes in two weeks when we take our next trip out.

I suspect that is because most posters don't write about their losses. simply not as much fun to write or read about. This past September when I took a significant loss at Venetian, I wrote a little about the gambling. But that significant loss was after being WAY down! If I had not staged a mini-comeback to take me out of the disasterous trip zone, I probably would not have written about the trip at all.

I know it's against the odds but I keep track of all my gambling as well and right now I'm up. I know it won't last. I'm the opposite of the OP, I've had more losing trips than winning trips but because of a couple big wins last year I'm ahead right now.

Trip reports here remind me of Shawshank.

    Lifetime 80% losers, 10% breakeven, 10% winners.

Last 5 years 80% winning trips. Primarily due to a ridic hot streak and also unnaturally accentuated by the "martingale-esque" chasing system I have employed for most of the run.

The wins are way smaller than the losses, although the net for past 5 years has been skewed way beyond EV by a couple large winning trips.

It's better to be lucky than good my friend.

Win or Lose - It's how you play the game

Someone on here once said that we all tend to remember our wins but not our losses. I think for the most part that's true. I don't keep track but I do remember my significant wins.
Truth is; I go to Vegas hoping to win big but I expect to lose and so I chalk it up to my overall entertainment value. The winning part is how much fun did I have on my trip?

I had about 5-6 good trips in a row, up a few hundred to up about 1400. Then the ax fell. Last three trips have been losing in increasing amounts every time. Last trip to Vegas I didn't get up more then 200 in any session. It was brutal. I'm leaving tomorrow for Biloxi and hope to end 2012 with LESS of a loss than normal. Maybe 2013 will be lucky for me or I'll have to go longer between trips to accumulate the bankroll.

Last year I had one $250 winner and two $500 losers, roughly. But all room nights were comped except maybe 2 or 3 out of 30 or so, and probably 75% of meals comped or on points.

All time I would say its 75% light losers, 10% winners, 10% break even and 5% brutal fucking losers.

I guess in losing years past, I always tried to think of all the free rooms and free food I received to make me even. Considering how low-brow I usually eat, I probably wasn't anywhere close to even, but in my mind it was all good!

8 wins, 6 losses. I define wins/losses specifically with the gambling part of the trip. In other words, once you include food, transportation, entertainment I rarely come back home with more than I went out with.

I keep a very detailed spreadsheet on all my trips.
Short answer, I've been a big loser in 2012.

    Long answer, here's some statistics:

34 trips to Foxwoods, for a total of 38 nights comped there. $7100 of freeplay. $4000 comps earned during the year. Multiple concert tickets and free gifts. 8 of those trips, I didn't dip into my bankroll, mostly going home even.
65k in W-2s won, all of that plus about 10k additional given back.
Overall, in the Red at Foxwoods. Losing/winning trip ratio is about 75%/25%. :grrr:

11 trips to Vegas, for a total of 34 nights comped there. $6475 freeplay. $2750 f&b comps. $3000 ECs earned. (12th trips will be over New Years).
3 of those trips, I went home with a bit more than I came with.
31k in W-2s won, all of that plus an additional 27k given back.
Overall in the Red in Vegas. Losing/winning trip ratio is about 73%/27%.
    :grrr:

Six losing trips, 1 winning trip. The lone winning trip I came home with a whopping 85 dollars more than what I brought there...lol!!

I hope my future trips are better...:wink
