I really like a lot of Christmas songs but the one I hate the most is Dominick the Donkey.

    Haven't heard that one.

I hate White Christmas. Having a cold, snowy day does not enhance my Christmas. It makes it tough driving to the family.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer. Absolutely horrible.....

On the flip side I always liked the duet of "The Little Drummer Boy" with Bing Crosby and David Bowie......

I have some thoughts on this.

Dominic the Donkey, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, The Hat I Got for Christmas is Too Big, etc. are novelty songs, and though overplayed in some formats, aren't meant to be standards. I personally don't count them.

Probably my most disliked Christmas song is Santa Baby. A horny, golddigger mewing and begging for luxurious gifts just make the hair stand up on my back.

Other songs I will routinely turn off are those that are better played at Parents without Partners meetings (like Blue Christmas) and those slower than most funeral dirges (like Merry Christmas, Darling).

A special call out has to go to Silent Night. A couple of days before Christmas, it is a powerful song. On December 3rd at Noon on a sunny, 50 degree day, it is maudlin and out of place.

Another category I struggle to enjoy is those that only tangentially relate to Christmas. This is more nebulous, because for every Let it Snow (which is a Christmas standard) there is My Favorite Things (which should be nowhere near Christmas... especially Barbara Streisand's version). For every Winter Wonderland and Jingle Bells, there is Same Old Lang Syne and Pretty Paper.

Finally, though I don't directly dislike this category (and don't judge at first glance), I am not a big fan of Christmas songs sung by Jews (Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, etc). Secular songs aren't a problem, but the God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing are... When I hear them, all I can think is that they owed the studio one more album. With that said, Neil Diamond's O Come O Come, Emanuel, is one of the most powerful religious Christmas songs I can think of (as is Josh Groban's O Holy Night).

Personally, I've been rotating between Sirius/XM's Holiday Traditions, with no songs more recent than Sammy Davis, Jr. and Pandora's Mannheim Steamroller channel (all instrumentals).

O' Heavenly Holy Jingly Silent But Deadly Night

and any of the Jenna Jameson / Mel Torme (posthumous) duets on the "All Ye Facefull" album.

Drummer boy is by far the worst song ever. Id rather listen to Call Me Maybe 1,000 times on repeat.

I hate that song about "so this is Christmas/ do they know its Christmas". I hate that song about being home for Christmas only in my heart.

Christmas music is pretty much banned in my office, and I have no groceries left because I've avoided the store to avoid the music. Yes I hate it that much!!

Springsteen's "Santa Clause Is Coming To Town". Completely off-key and he sounds drunk. Every time I hear it, my ears bleed. Awful, just awful.

The Christmas Shoes song. About a boy buying shoes for his mom who is dying. Can you say depressing!

I read the title of the post and thought to myself, I really can't stand Dominick the Donkey! Too funny.

Sam, it might be an east coast thing, and in spite of his political views, Christmas would not be complete without hearing The Boss' rendition of Santa Claus is Coming to Town a zillion times on the radio. Was a huge Springsteen fan in the 1980's.

Worst are any of several commercials sung out of tune and out of time to various songs of the season! Far too many of them this year.
