Half night stay????

For a bunch of crazy reasons we have to arrive Saturday night on a red eye at 12:00 am. We have reservations starting Sunday at MGM for our 5 night stay. Should I just Priceline a hotel for that Saturday night stay? Or any recommendations of off strip to stay for around 50.00 (I hate Saturday nights since they are soooo expensive but if I do not go Saturday I can not go until the redeye on Sunday and there goes a whole day of vacation. any help appreciated

 

I would actually go to MGM and see if they can hook you up.

 

Also, you could try the app Hotel Tonight. You cannot book a room until noon on any particular day but can usually get some fantastic last minute deals. Plus when you first sign up, you get a $25 credit so that helps reduce it even more. For example, I just checked and for tonight, Friday, I can book Red Rock for $65, Cannery for $50, Artisan for $40, Gold spike for $35, Trop for $70. Availability changes every day. I have seen deals for PH, HardRock, Flamingo.

 

I'd just check my bags at MGM and party all night till your room is ready, see if you can get early check in on Sun.

 

If you Priceline, don't get into the blind bidding on anything. Resort fees are never mentioned in the price you blindly agree to.

Check with MGM on the cost of early checkin. You might be able to park your bags and play some all night limit poker until you could check in to your reservation or have coffee rather than alcohol and play some cheap slots. I've wasted time playing penny slots for just pennies.
I don't stay at high end places, but I've gotten a room at the Four Queens for no extra fee at a ten am check in. Doing an all nighter can be a bit tiring, but it sets you up for sleeping in the morning and early afternoon on Sunday and then fresh to party again Sunday night.

How long is your flight? Carry a sleeping mask and noise reduction earphones, skip all the free drinks, and you might get a good nap while flying into Vegas.

Compare the hassle of check in, check out and travel to the convenience of getting checked in at a time when there is certainly no line and then being settled for the entire trip.

If you still want just a cheap night, give us a date and let us play around looking, but generally fifty bucks won't grab a room for one Saturday night.

 

I am telling, try hotels tonite, I just checked and I can get Red rock for $65 tonite, minus the $25 sign up so $40 for a Saturday night. 4queens is $41 tonight so $16, best you will find for a Saturday night.

 

Red Rock will be plus the $28 resort fee. No fee at Four Queens.

 

I think the resort fee is like $7 or something at Red Rock. Id stay at Red Rock over 4 Queens any day.

 

For one night, stay downtown and see another part of the city. You can burn through the we're-finally-in-Vegas-let's-do-something-besides-sleep vibe on cheap cocktails, a cheap meal and cheap table games. Most weekends you can still find rates under $50/night at Four Queens, El Cortez or Golden Gate. If they're having one of their frequent sales, you could also find it at the Gold Spike even with their $10 resort fee.

The Station Casinos will look like good deals, but the $15 resort fee eats up a third of your budget.

 

Red Rock resort fee is $24.99 Plus tax which brings the total added to your bill to exactly $28 per night. Keep using this chart when booking rooms if price matters.

It is hard to figure what hotels, if any, might fall into the $50 range you quote OP, without knowing which Saturday you are trying to book. Prices change.

Will you have a rental car?

 

Thanks for the replies. We are going Jan 20 to 25th, coming from Atlanta. No car rental. Maybe we will try for the all niter:evillaugh....lol

 

Note for anyone looking that this means he needs to book Jan 19 as that is the Saturday.

Clearly Red Rock is out as an option.

Hotels.com shows Las Vegas club at $25. That would give you a bed and hot water but nothing fancy.
A cab defeats your budget. However, it might be worth the expense at that hour if you are tired. How many are you?
You can't bus down at that hour cheaply.
Figure the shuttle from the airport at another ten dollars per person.

Coming back to MGM would be easy and cheap. You just take the WAX from downtown in front of Binions and you are there comfortably in less than a half hour for two dollars each. It leaves about once an hour so check a schedule. Not having to cab back helps.

Right now Las Vegas Club has no resort fee but some people have been moved from there to the Plaza to accomodate construction at the Vegas Club. Call and ask. That is a nice move in terms of room qualtity, but they were then asked for ten dollar resort fee.
Complaining had the fee waived.


Saturday night downtown is pretty cool, music in the streets and plenty to see and do. It would not be a bad way to begin Vegas. Check out can usually be extended an hour without added payment. That would give you time to play a bit and get the Vegas feel and grab a few hours sleep before heading out to MGM
And you could just book it as insurance and lose the $25 if you arrived fresh and ready to do an all nighter. If you could not sleep on the plane, ended up having an exhausted day, picked up a head cold this would cover you.
One thing now.
Don't wait a week and expect to get the same rate at Las Vegas Club, Find it and book it right away if you want it. Prices will change.

Here is a second thought. I see the Stratosphere for $56. You have to add in $8.40 resort fee, but you could access it on the 108 bus easily and cheaply and then for a bit more ride up to the MGM the next day on the SDX. So this comes out about the same as downtown when transporation costs are figured in. And you can have late morning coffee in the tower. Saturday night should find some good music at the Stratosphere lounges.
If you wanted to see the tower anyway on one of your days, this is a good way to include it in your travels. Or if you wanted to shop cheap souvenirs at that huge store in that neighborhood, you'd have time to do that in the morning.

The bus gets a bit complicated because technically residential 24 hour passes are not valid on the strip buses unless you have a local ID, so you need to pay twice. 2 dollars each would get you to The STRAT and 6 each to the MGM.
Some of us here hope that the inspectors on the SDX or the driver on the Deuce will not check to see we have a local ID. Then a 24 hour pass bought from the driver on the 108 would cover both legs.
However, paying by the rules, two one way tickets make sense.
Or buying a 24 hour pass for the strip buses for just 2 dollars more on your trip to the MGM $8 makes sense if you intend to take the bus at all in the 24 hours from the time you go from the Stratosphere to the MGM.
From the airport the 108 drops off right at Denny's, across the street from the Stratosphere It picks up at the airport about every 20 minutes and it is a 20 minute ride. Just be certain to go the right way. Ask the driver as you board. Don't take the 109.

Even though it is Saturday night, it won't be crowded like the strip buses and the strip buses should not be too crowded going South the next day either.

Again, booking soon will make the price I quoted still valid. I caught it by using the HotelsCombined site to the right of this post under Travel Websites. After you book and before you leave home, you want to call the hotel directly to both see that the paperwork arrived and to let them know that you will be arriving very late, but will need a room saved for you.
This one should probably be booked only if you really want to go as it is more expensive as throwaway.
On the other hand, it will take you some time to arrive, get bags, ride transportation and check in, so you may find downtown beginning to wind down. Mornings downtown are dull. However, you would get a better option for food than in the Stratosphere.

 

What about the motel 6 next to hooters or terribles on flamingo. Sure they both are a step up above a dumpster but it's better than nothing.

 

Third option. Harrah's under Hotels.com pops up as just $60. Add in the shuttle ride of about $10 each and it is a good strip alternative. Or a cab would be much less money than downtown or the Stratosphere.
Others can tell you in dollars what the cab would be if you start a new post with that question.
No resort fees at Harrah's. Some coupons come with the booking.
Then you could make your way to the MGM the next day on the Deuce, or if you don't mind walking, you could catch free shuttle inside Bellagio to Monte Carlo.
That would put you in the middle of strip the first night for about what the Stratosphere would be.
And while the room at Las Vegas Club is the cheapest, the transportation if you need a cab is pricey and the ride longer from the airport and the room much more basic.
You do have to factor in the possiblility of construction noise from the Linq project which is why I suspect the price is unusually low. Also, sometimes the courtyard produces some noise. If you expect to go right to sleep after arrival, then I'd pick the quieter options of Stratosphere or Vegas Club. If you won't be in bed until 4 or 5, the music noise at Harrah's will most likely be over and the construction probably not starting for a while.

Before you do anything, call and see if the MGM will match any of these prices for a very early checkin. That is still the best deal. You certainly can do 4 or 5 hours of gambling if they can take you on Sunday at 6. Then you just leave your bags with the bellman and go have coffee. It is a great poker room there. For me, that would be the choice as I just don't get so tired playing live poker and the worst that happens is I doze a bit between hands I play which is annoying to the dealer, but doable.

 

Terribles would give you a free ride from the airport and some cheap food options graveyard or the next morning. I don't see it giving you much entertainment. Is smoke an issue? The next day you would need two buses. I'd recommend taking the 108 from right across the street to the 201 at Tropicana and then that bus into MGM. Those buses would be very empty and comfortable on a Sunday.

No resort fees at Terribles. I guess none at Motel 6 but I'd call and ask.

 

I caution highly against this from experience. My friends and I did this in college back in the days where we tried to save every penny we could. It was my first trip there and we were also staying at MGM. Took the redeye to save money and got to our hotel by 1am or so. Planned to just check our bags and party all night. Sounded easy since we would party all night all the time. NOT AT ALL. After a long flight and all the hassles, plus the 3-hour time difference from the east coast. I remember we were dead tired within a few hours. We thought it would be easy to lounge around in the casinos after we left the clubs but that wasn't easy. We all got cranky and pretty much wasted the entire next day. Basically, you'll end up wasting Sunday because after finally checking in you'll just pass out all day. Also, early check-in is harder to get on Sundays when most guests are checking out.

If saving money is the priority I just did a search on Kayak and see the Las Vegas Club is only $19 for that Saturday night. $19 !!!!!! I have no idea how that hotel is but its downtown and frankly you'll spend way more than $20 while trying to stay awake all night.

 

I once checked in to Stratosphere for a one night stay at 6 a.m. Checkout was 11 a.m. The clerk said she gets that all the time.

 

If you are going to use an opaque site, Hotwire would be better in this situation because there are resources out there to figure out both the hotel and the resort fee hit. I would suggest checking rates at the near strip props as well. Some people know to hit them up for cheaper Saturdays but you can still find good rates for them.
