My husband and I have been going to Vegas for 30 years. We are in our mid to late 60.s. We love it,but we always laugh about if we are in wheel chairs we will still be going-thats the last thing we will do. How do you know when to quit Vegas and just do the local casinos?

I don't see why it would matter, either place you will have the same circumstances, when it comes to that point, maybe you will just have to stay put at 1 casino in Vegas?

Just keep doing the thing you love as long as you still like to do it. Dont do what people say your are supposed to do. Enjoy as long as you can. Vegas is there for everyone!

Y'all can quit when we quit. Deal? We don't plan on quitting anytime soon. Although when we are out having fun the pace is perhaps getting a tad slower.

    You stop going when;

    1. It's no fun
    2. You're not mobile
    3. You run out of money
    4. You're Dead

We've just turned 60 and I've been going to Vegas since 1973. 2 -5 trips per year. It is going to be 6 trips this year.:wink2:

Every few years we say we have to go somewhere else, but in the end, we still love Vegas.

We went to Seattle this year and we're going to Scottsdale in Feb/March for golf and Spring Training, but in the end, we already have a Vegas trip booked for April.:evillaugh

I guess my travel cut off point would be if I had to use one of those motorized scooters to get around.

I know this comment is going to draw flak, but some of those people just need to layoff the food and get some exercise. Not all, but some.:peace:

This probably sums it up, when it seems a pain to plan and go to vegas and when you don't seem to enjoy going to vegas anymore, it might be time to hang it up until you feel the urge to try it again, then if you don't enjoy it again better to just stay away from it all.

My mom is in her mid 80's and it seems like she has hung it up (she can't afford her gambling lifestyle since she went into a care home). I offer to take her but she declines, the flight from Hawaii is just too long for them and they can't gamble as much as they used to so not as much fun for them (probably gambles 7 to 10K on her vegas vacations, unlike me who probably gambles 2k). She just can't go to vegas and gamble only 2k so it's not as fun.

On the other hand, I have friends who take their late 90's parents and grandparents and the old timers still enjoy it. They just sit around a machine but many of them like it because it gets them out of the house (care home, etc.) and away from their humdrum life.

I think that everyone decides for themselves when to hang it up. Some with wheelchairs and motorized scooters still frequent vegas so it isn't about food and exercise IMHO. Best to quit when it just isn't fun anymore.

I am going to stop vacationing there when I START getting mail there. I expect to be living in that area within 5 years, at most. Everytime I step outside here in Minnesota from November until April I always ask myself why am I still living here.

My friends parents are both in their 70's. They use to go to Vegas all the time back in the day but they both have health problems now.
Her Dad is always talking about The Sands and The Stardust and she tells him those places are long gone! We've taken her Mom to the
Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa and she loves going. In fact she's done pretty good winning $200 then $500 and $400 the 3rd time we went.
She seems to perk up when we take her and what's funny is when we take her home she always walks in the door waving her money in the air!

You will stop when it's financially ill advised to go there. If your income stream meets everyday expenses, and you would need to liquidate some of your assets to travel, then you need to think clearly about the trip. I retired eight years ago, but when I was a young man, I was thinking about living to the age of eighty. Now both my wife and I look at 90+ as actual reality. This means we need to stretch our retirement dollars farther out into the future. So as to not jeopardize our daily living standard, we are more conservative with vacation spending. A gambling budget would an item we would look at critically. If you gamble less your comp level will decrease and the cost for rooms and meals will go up. Something you have to consider.

Though we have local casinos here, the overall selection of games locally versus whats in Las Vegas isn't even in the same ballpark.

We do get some new stuff from time to time, but there are so many games that will never appear at my local casinos or will finally show up way down the road. An example would be about a month ago they installed the new "Elvis" slot machines and the "Grease" ones as well, but at the same time they were putting in the games "Mighty Atlas", "Four Seasons" and "Lord of the Rings" for the first time.

You're never too old to go to Vegas.
    Want proof?
    Go to SAM'S TOWN!
Blue hair, Lark Scooters, Oxygen tanks on hand carts . . . .

I love it. The geezers are great! Some of the nicest and funnest folk I've met in Vegas.

We were there one year when there was some promotion going on whereby you needed to scan your card at the DIY kiosk to activate your entries for a drawing. They were all having trouble figuring it out and I helped a lady go through scanning the card and pushing the icons on the screen. She was very gracious. Next lady had the same trouble so I helped her as well. Next thing you know, I'm helping each senior in line, one at a time and getting them primed for the contest. They loved me and I became a minor celebrity that day.

I've actually thought about this a lot.

As long as I'm able to independently get to Vegas and am able to get around, I'm going. If I have to have help, that will be the time to start rethinking things.

Age 56, from Wisconsin, visit LV 1-2 times per year for past 7 years and it never grows old. As my wife and I move along in life the food, drink, shows, gambling, people watching, lounging by the pool, sports books, sight seeing, etc. just get better every time we go. For those who have never been to to LV, they will most likely never "get it".

10:30 am just picked up Donny & Marie tickets, then stopped by the Casino Royal, pick up 2 $1 beers, walking to the Mirage to pick up Jay Leno tickets, a passer by yells out "that's the way to do it". Could not agree more. Get tickets, swing by sports book and the first baseball game out east is just starting. Plunk down, finish the beer and head back to the Bellagio. Does it get any better than that?
