    Tamales

Every year there is a Tamale Festival in the Palm Springs area. I have never been there. But I heard they have all kinds of flavors.

Any time I want to eat a tamale I buy them at Trader Joe's.LOL.
I don't live near any real good Mexican restaurants. I truly miss eating
    at Mexican restaurants.

I was born in Houston, Texas where they had some great small tamales that
were super tasty. In Calif. I only see the big tamales. Some people make some strange flavored tamales in my neighborhood.

For Christmas dinner I will be eating a turkey dinner at a friend's house.

Have lots of fun eating your fresh tamales. YUM! Lucy

It's in Indio. Just had it the weekend before last. It is a KICK. The last two years Kaiser Restaurant Group's Jackalope Ranch took home the top prize. In fact, we'll be getting our tamales from Arriola's in Indio this year!

Love sweet corn and queso tamales.

How can there be anywhere in LA not otherwise known as Beverly Hills or Rolling Hills Estates that doesn't have great hole-in-the-wall Mex???

My daughter orders homemade pierogies from a place called The Pierogie Palace

Brings them to my house on Christmas eve. Have to order them weeks in advance.

Well being married to a Mexican-American family (and yes, when you marry a Mexican-American you do indeed marry the family) it means time to make tamales. We'll eat them for Christmas yes but they will be eathen throughout the year as well. Matter of fact, I think last years are still in my freezer....hmmm, maybe I'll cook them up for the game on Sunday.

I just learned how to make them last year and holy cow those things are a lot of work! Grandma always made them before but now the in-laws have taken over and that means we all get recruited to help. But if I can earn myself a few dozen then its worth it!

Fresh Polish from the butcher. I like smoked, but it wouldn't be holiday time w/o some fresh. Totally different taste.

    Chocolate Cake....

My mother likes it so it became a Christmas tradition in our home.

This is the one she bought this year.

Sounds a bit like cannibalism to me, Joe, but maybe it's just a midwestern delicacy with which I'm not familiar!

So simple yet such a learned skill. This gringo makes 'em but no way I'm taking on four dozen. We'd have our Christmas tamales for the 4th, or maybe Memorial Day if I really push it. lol

I used to manage a property in Watsonville, CA and my residents all used to give me tamales this time of year. I sure do miss that.

We don't really do Mexican food in Washington. Well, some people do, but I call that Taco Bell. :haha:

Tamales for Christmas, flowers for spring, strawberries in summer and artichokes in fall. Suddenly I can't remember why I quit that job. :)

Yummmmmy! I love tamales :licklips: Lucky for me there is no shortage of places which sell them, since I lack the culinary skill and knowledge to make them.

Sonya, what about Taco Time :poke: When we lived to Seattle I was surprised to discover that TacoTime put Thousand Island Dressing on their "Mexican" food. That was a bizarre combination...

Taco Bell is much closer to Mexican food than Taco Time is. Thousand Island? Yikes. I know I got ranch dressing in my "taco" that looked like a burrito to me.

My husband says Taco Time is what the other 49 states seem to think "California-style Mexican" food is. They are wrong. :evillaugh

I've just moved into a house in florida and I'm wondering if , besides the unpacking, dealing with my parents, working, getting xmas presents and doing all the jobs around the house that my wife needs me to do , if I should get a grill/smoker and quickly learn how to use it so we can eat bbq all xmas...

oh and learn how to construct a sentence - I've just looked at the previous one and its a shocker!!

I steal my in-laws electric smoker. Love how easy it is to regulate the temps. I think my brother got a Big Green Egg for Christmas. But it wasn't a surprise because he had to get it out of the car when his wife got home:peace:

I think barbecue is over-rated. I know, they'd burn me at the stake down your way. I mean, I have a smoker (Weber), I smoke stuff, I like barbecue a whole lot, but maybe being a Left Coaster I'm just more attuned to grilling.
