My wife and I will be in Vegas for a week in early/mid-June. We plan on renting a car and go exploring one day to break things up. We both have been to the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam doesn't really interest us. I'm thinking about a trip that would be no longer than 8am to 8pm. Do you have any suggestions?

I haven't made it out there yet myself, but Mt Charleston is supposed to be very nice (and temperate) that time of year.

Mt Charleston is great in summer. Only about 35 miles from the Strip.

They have hiking trails or just drive up to the Lodge for lunch and a beverage. Obviously not an all day trip but the scenery is fantastic. The Lodge sits at about 7,800 ft elevation, which makes for a great break from the Vegas heat!

    Zion.

Long day. But even a snapshot look at one of the west's greatest spots is far far better than no look.

I agree with Ken about Zion, or as I call it Mount Zion. It's a long day but beautiful.

Also, Valley of Fire is nice.
