Headliners on contract...who next?

With Celine, Rod Stewart, Elton, Shania, Faith & Tim and Santana having contracts to play LV on a regular basis for a few years; whom else could a casino/hotel hire that could fill their showroom over and over again?

My vote goes to Gloria Estefan.

 

Brian Setzer would be the one who i would actually go see.

 

Rumor was Steve Wynn was trying to get Billy Joel with Garth's contract ending. That is one I'd see for sure.

 

If they can keep him sober. Not trying to diss the guy because that would be a good show but his personal issues have slowed his career down. I was interested in trying to see his last tour with Elton John but it was cancelled.

Personally, I would like to see an act with more urban edge so I'd like to see New Edition. Naturally, that would be for a smaller showroom. And even though I am not a huge fan of his, I would think that David Bowie would be a great headliner if they could get him interested.

And Bruce Springsteen could fill every auditorium in vegas at once.Every night of the year (Maybe I am slightly exaggerating, but not by much )

 

Great Topic. Gloria Estefan for sure, but I doubt if she would move there. If Celine left, I could see Stevie Nicks taking her place, except her voice is pretty much trashed. Annie Lennox would put on a show that I think would last, but again, would she move there.

Could it be that we're seeing a return to the days of Old Vegas(tm) that we thought were gone, that being the resident headliner? Maybe?

For a while it seemed like each new show was Cirque This and Cirque That, with a few variety, Broadway/production, and other shows in there.

The Old Vegas I remember was the strip lined with headliners, most of whom were aimed at a generation other than mine. Maybe we'll see more that I and those my age will now get into.

 

If that means Robert Goulet is comin' back, I give up!

 

David Bowie would be a good choice. The sets could change with the different personas he has had in his career. But, he probably wouldn't do it because he would make more $$$ on a world tour if he ever deceided to make a return to the stage.

 

This is kind of what I remember. On my first trip to Las Vegas, I was mesmerized with the Strip and the lights and the signs and the vibe and such. They did have some headliners, but many of them were names I wasn't really familiar with, or those obviously a generation older than I was.

The only one I was really familiar with on that trip was John Davidson (twirling index finger) a game show regular, wannabe hit singer, and semi-regular guest host on the Tonight Show. (Tonight's guest host is John Davidson **CLICK**.)

At the time there really weren't any entertainers aimed at the then-20somethings. At the time, disco was really big back east, but I don't remember seeing a single disco club or lounge. I remember enjoying the band at the Union Plaza, and they played what I might call Vanilla Wedding Rock.

Personally, I would like to see Seinfeld have more of a regular gig. Perhaps Letterman. We saw Leno at Caesars maybe 10 years ago and he was super in person!

 

No, it means that the hotels (if they are going this way) need to hire a performer that has mass appeal. Someone that visitors, no matter what their age, where they are from, or what type of music they listen to, will know of them and would consider spending on an average $100 per ticket to go see them.

I also saw John Davidson (I think it was at the Riviera) with Oliva Newton John as the headliner during that time.

I know he doesn't have enough draw to be realistic, but I'd love to see Andrew W.K. in Vegas - his party philosophy goes well with the town.

 

I would like to see the signing of headliners trend upward! I love seeing concerts in LV and there are not enough choices right now!

 

Dont think all preformers I am listing could do six months at one time (too old maybe ?) but maybe a 4 week rotation of Lynyrd Skynyrd /ZZ Top/ Aerosmith/Fleetwood Mac/AC-DC/ Rolling Stones/ The Who etc.

This is in my generation gap, My parents were into Sinatra, Captain & Tennille. Sonny and Cher, Four Seasons ,Wayne Newton, Kenny Rodgers great artist's in their day but maybe a change is in order for us 50 year olds

I'm thinking of Neil Diamond while he still can perform for the older crowd. And Carrie Underwood, someone who can really sing and puts on a great show. I think she would appeal to all sorts of people.

 

Christina Aguilera would be a perfect fit for a long run show.
