    Solo travelers unite (5-17th May)...

    Dear solo travelers,

I will be in Vegas on the 5th - 17th of May this year and traveling solo. Anyone else traveling solo around that time and wanting to meet-up?

I would very much like to have a place I can go to, where I can meet other solo travelers for a chat and a drink, and maybe even undertake something together?

Sort of a meeting point at a place where we would also go anyway on our own. So we can still enjoy the pleasures of traveling solo, but also meet like-minded people.

LucyR. came up with happy hour at NYNY Bar at Times Square and I think it's a great place to meet (copied from the website):

So what do you think? Solo travelers unite?:drunk:Or keep dreaming solo?"Ooo sole mio..." :snore:

    Hope you will join!!

I may be in Vegas that time; not sure yet. I think it's a wonderful idea.

I haven't nailed down dates yet, but I probably will be arriving either on Sunday May 5th or Sunday May 12th, so I'm hopefully in.

    Dear pebbles,

I'm not really sure (almost), but I think we might have met already in Las Vegas last year, also on a VMB get-together. I think I remember your nickname. Mine is not the same, cause at the time I used a temporary email account and didn't have any of the information anymore. I also didn't see anybody from that time on the board anymore, so I just started a new life. :D

October 2011 we all had dinner at Binions and exchanged souvenir gifts from our hometowns (I brought gifts from Amsterdam). Afterwards we played craps at casino ... (I don't remember which one). But if it's you, I'm sure you will remember our evening, we had a lot of fun! (although I think I might have had a bit much to drink, I sure hope not too much!) :drunk:

I'm still seeing / speaking to people from that time and we will also meet up again in Vegas. Will be great to see you and your husband again too!

BTW: If it's not you, never mind.

Hi all, I'm so happy with your reactions!
It's a bit scary to start something like this, not knowing if anybody will be enthousiastic or even react.
I know May is still a long time away, but planning fun things like this will hopefully make time pass a bit faster.
I'm already really looking forward to the holidays and getting together with you for fun times!

PS: Now the ladies will join the party, I hope the men will follow soon too?!

Lady Fortuna. I didn't make it to that meet. I remember intending to be there, but I wasn't well and couldn't go. I'm glad you had a good time though, and maybe we can meet in May.

Great! I will be there both those weeks and I'm thinking to start most of my days with happy hour at the NYNY (I like to sleep-in late lol) and then go from there.

    Are you traveling solo too?

I'm sorry you were not well in Vegas, that's really bad!
But we can take a rain-check in May!

Vegas.....Here we come in May 2013

Hi Lady Fortuna, I will be booking a solo trip to Vegas in May. I do believe in
booking early so I can get a great rate for air and hotel.

I notice you will arrive in Vegas on "Cinco de Mayo" 5th of May, which is a
Mexican-American celebration day. I think most of the hotels will have lots of Fiesta Parties. There will be lots of entertainment the whole month in Vegas. The favorite clothes colors to wear are red, white, and green mixed
together.lol. I plan to wear those colors with a Mexican hat.lol.

I am going to look at the dates of May 5th til May 10th. OR....May 13th til May 17th. I need to see which is a cheaper week to stay in Vegas.

Yes, I am a party gal that loves to meet people in Vegas. I love Vegas because it is very affordable and a super fun place to visit. I love staying at the hotels eventhough I have friends who live in Vegas and would let me stay with them. I prefer staying on the Vegas Strip hotels.

I will let you know the dates I plan to reserve.

Reminder for travelers - May 12, 2013, is "Mother's Day". I always have to be home to spend time with my Mother. She is very old and I only need to spend a few hours with her. I can still travel on that day but in the late
after-noon. It only takes one hour to fly to Vegas from the Burbank Airport.

There have been times when I flew home from Vegas on Mother's Day in time to visit my Mother.lol.

Yes, the NYNY Happy Hour is a lot of fun and super affordable. Great place to meet on a Tuesday through Thursday.

Talk to you all later. LucyR.

YEAH:woohoo:good to hear you will be there as well, I'm very happy you will join us! Your posts are always so much fun to read and I really like your idea about happy hour at the NYNY. I'm sure we will have a party (or 2, 3, 4...)!

I kinda hope you will find a better deal for 13th till 17th of May. Cause the first week there will be a friend from the USA for a couple of days and we are planning to make a trip to Laughlin (just 2 days/1 night). We will most probably also be at the NYNY at happy hours, but the second week I will be all by myself and looking forward to many véry happy hours at the NYNY. :D

And maybe you would like to join me for a dinner buffet at the Paris, Bellagio or Spice Market sometimes?

    :blowkiss:

Shoot, this sounds great, but I've already got my first solo trip set up for February . Next time

I need to spend more time on the board to look for all the solo traveler threads so I can get ideas. I'm primarily going to be playing Blackjack and Baccarat with some slots thrown in, but would like to get some ideas on where to eat, etc.

Hope you guys have a great time!

    Hi Lucy!

I also had a hard time deciding where to stay. On one hand I want to stay somewhere I have not stayed at before and avoid resort fees (my hotel of choice for this trip would have been Flamingo, I love it and spend a lot of time in the evenings/night in that area). But then on the other hand a nice deal comes along for a hotel which I loved(!) to stay at before and wíth resort fees (that was at the MC on my first trip to Vegas, when I was still completely ignorant about resort fees etc)!

Choices, choices..... But after thinking about it for a couple of days, I suddenly decided to take the MC offer. I like the idea of having it all arranged now. And I just lóve the MC for so many reasons, I'm actually thrilled about staying there again! Together with the resort fees it still came out better than what I could get right at this moment at Flamingo. And I know prices can drop or a good offer could come along, but I don't really care tbh. I'm far more happy having everything arranged now and that I can start planning things, like what to do, where to shop (drinks & snacks for the room for example), places to eat, and how to get everywhere, etc etc...

Also; the resort fees at MC come with internet in the room. And even though I would not have taken that if I had to pay extra for it (but then I would have to go eat at McD's all the time :rolleyes2:), being solo and having internet at hand in the room is an enormous plus for me and will be well taken use of! I will be able to look up locations and information, and connect with people. And another big plus is, I'm right between NYNY and the center of the Strip! Which is really handy, cause I plan to start my days at NYNY at the Bar at Times Square happy hour, and finish my days somewhere around the center of the Strip.

But anyway... I'm trying very hard to defend my decision to stay at a hotel which charges resort fees, but that won't help you to decide where to stay yourself (and isn't that what this whole topic is about?!) Sorry Lucy!

So BTT: If you are still determined to stay at a place without resort fees, then I would say Flamingo? I know you like that hotel too. And will it not be great when we are on a night out and walking from NYNY to the Flamingo, that we will be able to fill up our glasses on our way at my hotel?! ...and then later again when arriving at your hotel?! :drunk:hahahaah!! On the other hand: MC and also NYNY currently have an offer running for every 4th night free (ending one of these days), so maybe that's worth a consideration? I could sum-up everything I like about MC if that will help you decide? (to run over to the resort fees mafia :wink2:)

BTW: Do you already know which time you will go (5-10 or 13-17)?

Thank you Rory! And I hope you will win a lot of money on your trip in February, then you can come again in May and join us!

Solo traveling to Vegas seems to be really popular amongst the board members and there are a lot of great threads about it! I found so much tips and ideas already (and I didn't even start with the trip reports yet!).

Let me look some up for you...

Hi Lady, I still have plenty of time to decide what hotel to stay at.

The Monte Carlo is a great hotel for you to stay at because it is located next door to the NYNY.

I don't walk anywhere. I just take the local bus to each hotel. It doesn't matter where I stay at.

I am staying at the Paris hotel on Dec.17 this week for the first time. If I like the hotel I may stay there again in May 13th - 16TH. LucyR.
