I had a clear calendar at the office yesterday so decided to go down to Atlantic City the night before. I'd been thinking about doing Diamond In A Day (DIAD) for a while now and decided to pull the trigger. I did it on $5 full pay 9/6 JoB for $25 a spin. It didn't take too long actually, maybe a few hours split up throughout the night. Fortunately I actually ended up winning a couple thousand, though lost half my winnings at craps and BJ later. I knew I could lose several thousand potentially at $25 a spin but was prepared for it. I mostly play table games but have been playing more VP lately. CET properties are horrible at rating table players well unless you play very big (perhaps).

A couple of things I learned doing DIAD:

    - The Total Rewards people can be hit or miss - some of them seemed to know nothing about how DIAD works or even answers to other simpler questions. If you're getting answers that don't seem right or get the sense the person doesn't know what they're talking about ask to speak to a supervisor. Whenever you get the confirmation about the program and details make sure to get that person's name because when you go to pick up your card there's a good chance whoever you speak to won't know anything.

    - Apparently getting the card is easier if you play at your primary casino. They had my primary casino listed as Caesars but I was playing at Harrah's (for the first time) because I had a free room offer there without using comps and they have a popular Wed night party so the casino is full of young hotties in mini-skirts on Wednesday nights.

However, the next morning when I went to get my Diamond card after knowing I earned more than 3000 points the previous night the TR desk could only give me a "temporary" card because Caesars was my main casino, not Harrahs. She then told me that I'd either have to pick up my actual card with a 2014 expiration at Caesars or they could give it to me at Harrah's within 3 days - but not mail it to me. I decided to just drive over to Caesars after checking out since I had a dining credit voucher I could use there for lunch anyway. Then at Caesars the TR desk didn't seem to know what the heck I was talking about. Fortunately the Harrah's person emailed the supervisor there to tell them I was coming by and I earned over 3000 pts there and to give my a Diamond card.

    - If you have a smartphone its worth installing a free video poker trainer app with a hand analyzer. I used it while I played for occasional hands and it saved me from making some mistakes. My saving grace was a decent number of 4oak throughout the night - probably hit like 4 or 5 of them at least.

That's great and congrats. We are going for diamond the old fashion way and we are at 10,600 with one more weekend to go (14th, 15th at Harrahs AC) so we should get there with no problem.

How do I know what my 'home' casino is. We were exclusively at Ballys AC up until this year and switched to Harrahs because Ballys changed and we found more middle aged people at Harrahs and felt more at home. When I hit 11,000 points I want my diamond card and not a temp so if I have to visit TR counter to change before I hit the magic number I'd like to know. Can they tell me what my home hotel is and can them change it to Harrahs?

My mother did the same thing at Caesars in AC over the summer, she was playing $1 and $5 slots all day. When she went to the TR desk it took getting a supervisor involved in order to issue the card since the 3 people working the desk had never heard of DIA.

I can't find my home casino listed anywhere on my account online for Total Rewards so you probably just need to ask them. It sounds like yours might be Bally's but since you've been playing more and more at Harrah's it may have changed. I'm sure they can change it if you ask them. By the way I was surprised by Harrah's, it was nicer than I expected. Still not enough table games for my taste but more than I expected and just a nicer casino than I thought it would be. Bally's has become the pits, it used to be nicer but now it is so run down.

we feel the same way about Ballys being more run down now, plus the music has changed to mostly hip hop and rap.

Harrahs table games are funny. You think there are less than Ballys, but you need to really walk around. The more you get use to the floor the more you realize they actually have more games. UTH or BTH, one is always open, even early in the day. Roulette is $5 up to noon and goes to $10, Ballys was always 15. Plus they have other games that Ballys doesn't like Blackjack, Double Attack which is ALOT of fun to play. You can also find Mississippi stud all the time at Harrahs. The paytable are a little better than Ballys too on VP, except the two full pay DDB .25 GameMakers near the Casino cage.

We love Harrahs and would never think of going back to Ballys.

How does the casino view this? I'd hate to hit a royal and have them say "sir, you used a computer aid and forfeit all winnings" or something.

I would assume its no different than using the Black Jack perfect play cards in every casino gift shop while playing at a table. But it would still make me nervous due to the computer part you pointed out.

Is there anywhere I can find additional info on this DIAD thing? I have a trip upcoming and this seems interesting. Since I am from Europe and visit Vegas once a year, the regular rewards programs don't really work for me.
But paying 150 bucks (at 99.5% return) for the Diamond privileges seems reasonable.

The TR website doesn't seem to offer any info on this program. What do I have to do? Thanks for any advice!

Seems like this DIAD program only applies to AC casinos which I don't really understand.

That is incorrect. All CET casinos. Check with the booth before you play though to make sure the number needed is agreed upon. Some CET casinos require 4000.

Congrats on the diad! How did the skirt chasing go lol?
To the poster wondering about the legalities of using an app, are you serious lol.

I would be willing to bet a large sum of money with 100% certainty that if you hit a royal using a VP app on your phone to help you make the right holds that, 1. The casino wont ever say a damn thing except congratulations. 2. They would never know that you were using an app and 3. There is absolutely nothing illegal or nefarious about using an app. Sometimes I just shake my head when reading some things on here lol.

And do it before January 1st. CET is raising the tier score of their levels.
    4000 to 5000 for platinum
    11000 to 15000 for Diamond

I can only imagine that DIAD will increase as well.

No one said anything and I was playing in the high-limit area where a lot of employees kept walking by me and probably saw me using it. It was a slant-top machine and I had my phone in front of me the entire time and used the program fairly often. Like Grid said, it should be viewed no differently than using a blackjack basic strategy card or VP strategy tables for that matter. And like KingBB suggested, I don't see how the casino could make any argument against you using a hand analyzer app.

Just check with the TR desk beforehand but its typically 3000 points in one day (the day counted as 6am to 5:59am the next morning at my casino). Others have said you're only allowed to do DIAD once if you've never been Diamond before. I can't confirm that but if its true after you get DIAD when it comes time to renew you'd have to earn normal amount of Diamond points over the course of the year. By the way if you do DIAD your Diamond status is good for that year up until March of the following year. However if you do it now in December its good for all of 2013 up until March 2014. So December would be the best month to do it as it gets you Diamond for the longest amount of time.

By the way, I may just be telling you something you know but don't look at it as costing only $150. True that is your theoretical loss but I'm sure you know that your theo is just over a long long long time horizon. I was lucky this trip by never being down too much from my original bankroll but I still had swings of over $1000 down from various high points and that was still GOOD. You can easily lose thousands quickly at $25 spin. If you're not comfortable playing $25/spin I definitely don't think DIAD is worth it. In any case, I've always felt that CET properties comp lower rollers relatively better than higher rollers when you factor in promotional and mail offers. I'll admit that getting the Diamond for me was driven more by ego than any logical economic reason.

Can you provide a link to DIAD? I was going to wait to January thinking that if I did DIAD in Dec 2012 it would only last until Mar 2013. I am concerned that the requirement will increase in 2013. Thanks!

Thinking about trying this on Mon or Tues at Paris. How long does it take on $5x5 9x6 VP JoB roughly? 2-3hrs?

I thought I had read on this forum that DIAD only lasts until the end of the current year, not through the whole next year if it is earned with 11,000 points.
Can anyone confirm or disprove this?

cxi & chess: It probably took me between 3-4 hours. But cxi your 2-3 hour estimate is accurate for most players. I play kind of slow because I'm still pretty new to VP. I read experienced players average over 600 hands per hour and to get DIAD with video poker at $5/line or $25 per hand you need to play 1200 hands for $30,000 coin-in or 3000 points. I'm sure most experienced players can fly through those 1200 hands in no time.

FrogLegs: I can't find any link on the TR site about DIAD but if you just google it you'll find a lot of commentary about it elsewhere. But best to confirm all the details with your specific property you plan to play at. If the TR person you speak to doesn't know about it ask to speak to someone else, apparently not all their employees are that knowledgeable.

sonyhog: You are right except for people who do DIAD in December, then it is good for the entire following year and up until March the year after that. So right now mine is good until March 2014 and I can confirm that is the expiry shown on my Diamond card. You can also confirm this with the TR desk. That is why December would be the best month to do it - it lasts longest.

To anyone that wants to try DIAD: Please confirm all the details with the Total Rewards desk at your casino before doing it and make sure to get the name of the person who confirms the details for you. I have heard that some CET casinos don't participate in it and that some require 4000 points in a day versus the more typical 3000 points. Also confirm what hours constitute a "day". Where I played it was from 6am to 5:59am.
