OK - picture the scene or re-enact one you have already done - Vegas to me has always been about gambling or being with my family inc. Kids - shock horror - see other thread for details - I have been 18 times but this scenario is different.

    Background:

4 lads 35 years old. (All married)
2 gamblers the other 2 not so much.
All enjoy a drink and a good time - up for anything.
    Staying at Mandalay Bay.
Budget - we are all not made of money - I am no shifter or Natedog (No disrespect you have just done something a lot better with your 24 hours a day 365 days a year than I have!!) but would welcome any suggestion.

If you were about to or have done - what is/was your ideal daily schedule - booked to go in January so pools are out - so come on what would you do day by day - give us some pointers and help us have the vacation that dreams are made of!! - trip report will follow......

    Thanks for your time,

TheMG (From the UK so it takes 10 hours to get there- so when we eventually get there - help us out!!)

First - have the other lads been to Vegas yet? Do they like shows? Food? Nature?

Sorry should have mentioned that before - they came to my wedding so yes they have all been to vegas at least once - yes - we would all see shows (Name a good one?) Food is "Casual" dining rather than "Fine" - the rest would be on the strip - we have no rental car - so keep suggestions to the strip if possible!!

    Thanks for stopping,

    MG

Ride the 202 bus to Orleans. You can get the bus at the corner by NYNY.
Decent food options and gambling. Probably not the most exciting place, but good solid value. Check out their showroom schedule, they may have something good on. They also have a comedy club.

Another just off strip option is the Palms, Gold Coast, Rio triangle. Free shuttle from Orleans to GC, Bills to GC and Orleans, Rio to Ballys or Harrahs. Five minute walk to the other places.

On strip, Casino Royale might fit the bill for cheap drinks. They do several $1 special bottles, and the better ones are still cheap. It could be a good place to load up on drinks before going elsewhere.

Ideas for guys -- during the day especially -- in Vegas

Take a look at the Groupon site (Las Vegas as the city) and find the groupon for the Red Rock ATV tour. I booked my husband and his friend and they are excited to ride roughshod through the desert. Or, go the Living Social and they've got a special for an Exotic Driving Experience (at half off...on a track not just driving a few minutes up the strip). Again, my husband drove a Ferrarri around a track for for 6 laps and will never forget the experience. Lastly, I'd recommend going to Legasse Stadium and book a lounge area or the main stadium area to watch a game. Did that and really enjoyed ourselves. But be warned...buy a bottle to use up the minimum. We had a lot of trouble figuring out how to eat through that...drinking more would've been more efficient. If you go to Legasse, order the banana pie. OMG that was amazing!!!

Downtown would be fun for a few hours. The cost of a cab is minimal, and there is always a good time to be had on Fremont St., at least for a while. Have fun. Looking forward to your TR....

If you guys are into cars, the Imperial Palace Auto Collection is a must see. If you look on their website you can print out coupons for free admission. The downtown Fremont Street Experience is a lot of fun, with an amazing overhead light and sound show, free bands, better gambling than the strip and plenty of deals on food and drink. While you're down there, check out Main Street Casino for great microbrew, good food, some neat antiques and a huge chunk of the Berlin Wall in the Men's room. Hit Fremont East for a selection of great bars/lounges, and make sure to have a fried twinkie at Mermaid's. If you get down to Main Street around 3pm Tues-Fri you can hit the happy hour at 777, the work your way through the other happy hours... Mickie Finnz, Downtown Cocktail Lounge, etc.

To get downtown, you could get a cab (cheaper the farther north on the strip you grab it), take the duece bus, or rent a car. Car rental in Vegas can be pretty cheap, so if you're willing to take turns being designated driver, renting a car is worth considering. It will open up a lot more options for you, and end up being cheaper than cabbing it around.

Hmm I am thinking you might want to do something you cannot in the UK - go shoot guns at one of the Vegas Gun places.

I like he ATV idea. We did the dune buggies & that was fun.

For a show y'all might want to do a comedy - bawdy like Absinthe or do a traditional Vegas show like Jubilee (if your wives don't mind).

I wouldn't worry too much about food if fine dining is not your thing just play that on the fly I think to maximize your time

    Have fun!

I seem to post this suggestion about once a month. I have done this now four times and it is a great way to have fun, a little competition and see a lot of the strip. When we did it - it took over 10 hours to complete the full game so it fills up day.

    Slot Golf

Slot Golf is a game played on slot machines. The "golf course" is the strip - you move frome casino to casino. Like golf, a game consists of “holes” and the winner is the person with the fewest strokes over the course of the game. In slot golf, each “hole” is a turn at a slot machine. A “stroke” is a pull on a slot machine.
Play goes as follows - for each “hole” the player puts a $10 bill (or $5) in a slot machine. The payer bets an pre-determined number of credits and pulls the lever. Each pull is considered a stroke.
    • If the player wins one or more credit on the first pull, the player’s score is 1 stroke. The player cashes out, which includes any remaining original credits and whatever was won on the pull. The player registers his score of 1 on the scorecard for the first hole and the amount cashed out is put into the money pot.
    • If the player wins nothing on the first pull, the player repeats the bet and the pull. This continues until the player wins at least one credit. For example, if nothing is won on the first three pulls, and then there is a winner on the fourth pull, the player records a 4 for that hole. Whenever the player wins his first credit on a hole, the player cashes out and adds the money to the pot.
    • This is repeated for 18 holes.
    • All players play the same or identical machines.

In an ideal game, you play a hole at one casino, do some drinking, maybe gamble (craps, blackjack, video poker, whatever) and then move on to another casino and repeat. After 18 holes, the players are ranked according to their total score, with the winner - like golf -being the player with the lowest score. The pool of winnings is distributed. Winnings will be divided based on a payout schedule determined by the number of players. (e.g. winner may get 50%, second 25 %, third 15%, loser 10%)

Your wives let you come to Vegas alone, wow!!

Is this combined with business in the US if I may ask? Seems like an awful long way to go for three days. I'm sure your time will be well spent whatever you do,I just wouldnt want to be you guys on that long flight home if you feel like I do today after one night in AC.

I also vote dfor a day or evening downtwon. I know it is a cab ride each way, but the gambling and the drinking is so much cheaper there, you will easily make up the difference. Downtown is such a unique experience. It is Vegas but in a much more accessible way. Yoiu can be in and out of 10 different casinos and only walk 2 blocks. People watching is great - although I do admit the women on the strip seem to be dressed a whole lot nicer.

It really depends on all of your interests. Mandalay Bay, as you may know, is connected to Luxor and Excalibur by tram and walkway.

I heard Carrot Top at Luxor is nice for a show.

I heard Eyecandy is a nice lounge/nightclub/bar at Mandalay at night. No cover. MIX at Mandalay may be nice to check out as well although it has a cover.

Excalibur has a new food court as does Luxor with lots of "cheap eats" (tons of ordinary fast foods). I heard casual dining in Luxor is pretty good and mid-range. Excalibur is a little low-end and Mandalay food I hear is overpriced for the quality.

Best table games are off-strip, although MGM properties such as MB, Luxor, and Excalibur have fair games. I love the tables at Gold Coast. Slot machines are best downtown, hands down. And while you are there, check out Freemont East. Downtown eats are also fairly cheap but sometimes the quality is not up to snuff. But I enjoy playing a slot or two in the ambiance of Mandalay Bay.

If cheap drinks are your thing, Casino Royale is definitely the place. But then again free drinks while gambling is always better...

If you order 2 american casino guide books online for $11 bucks, you can get 2 free Riviera comedy tickets per book in addition to several other coupons. This is a superb value.

Carnaval court as Harrahs is an awesome no-cover outdoor nightclub. Bond and Chandelier Bar at Cosmopolitan are definitely worthy bars to check out. Lots of great people watching in this area too. While you are at Cosmo, check out their ice skating rink (special for the holiday season) which has free admission and parties on Mon, Wed, and Fri.

For your friends who do not gamble, get them signed up for a few player's cards when you get there so you can get free gaming credits at different properties...and possibly even land some comps in their name. lol

Go to the Peppermill for Breakfast or Lunch. The portions are enormous for the money and the place is fun. It can be part of a Strip walk where you can visit a lot of the casinos. In fact, make it a point to just walk through the casinos and check them out.

Downtown, go to Main Street Station's Buffet, much cheaper than the high end strip buffet's and quite good.

Splurge a little too. I really enjoyed Parasol Down at Wynn one afternoon, it's supposed to be pretty nice at night too. The cocktails are great and it's very relaxing, it was like an escape for me.

If you want to do something a bit cultural on the strip do the City Center Art tour, it's free.

Rent a car and go to Red Rock. I'm not sure when you're going but in Winter it won't be too hot.

I know someone mentioned Absinthe. I whole heartily agree. It was amazing and raunchy.
