Do you think CET will start charging resort fees?

After seeing that Cosmo added resort fees, do you think CET will eventually do it? They are definitely able to use the "no resort fees" deal in their advertising and marketing efforts, which may help sway some customers. One of the main reasons I stay at CET properties is because there is no resort fee. So, do you think they'll eventually add one?

I think the odds are good that they will one day. Whether or not I continue to stay there just depends on price. I'm not picking Flamingo over NYNY because or a resort fee. I'm picking Flamingo because it is cheaper.

I'm not sure if a blanket $10-$20/night increase to hotel rates is really going to help CET.

CET / Harrah's properties have always had the simplest marketing strategy ... "Get 'em in the door." They know that the money-making part will then take care of itself ... in the casino, shows, and dining.

With all of these other properties charging obnoxious resort fees, it gives CET an even better advantage. I can't say that CET would never do it, but it would surely upset their typical customer base.

Yes, it is just a matter of time. They are leaving WAY too much money on the table.

    Early check in fees

Early check in fees seems to me how they are getting around the "NO resort fees" boasting. It's as much as $20 to check in early. But not in all cases. And I know some people with comped rooms being charged the early check in fee. CET seems to also be inconsistent with this policy. We have checked in very early in LV and Illinois in recent months. We were never approached with the early fee.

Has anyone seen this "early check in fee" policy in print on their site or when reserving a room? I do not recall seeing it.

NO.....I don't see it in the near future (5 years or so)....and as far as early check in fees....MGM Properties has that WITH RESORT FEES......BTW..I have never paid that fee at either property....

Don't forget..........some MGM Properties charge that dreaded RESORT FEE even if you have a comped room...like NYNY... :(

I'm not sure if the early check-in fee policy is listed on the website. I've never looked for it.

When checking in to the IP in October (11am or so), the lady at the front desk said the early check in fee was $20 (or something close to $20), but said she would waive the fee since I was a TR member (Gold....low roller).

I was wondering about CET's plan on moving to resort fees myself.
I got a mailing over the weekend for an air charter and 3 night at Tunica for $299. The fine print stated there was a $20 per person "experience fee".
I figure that is their way to test the waters.

Don't see it. They have already hung their hat on no resort fee.

Gotta agree it'll be around. It's a such a good selling point, even if the math can prove up a better room elsewhere for the same or a lesser total price. It's all about the catch, and it's a great catch in this market.

Let's keep an eye open to see if those "No Resort Fees" signs all of a sudden start disappearing!

I'm sure the CET bean counters have thought of it.

I am not sure CET will add resort fees.

As to the early check in, my online booking done through TR for Harrahs advises of the early check in fee in the print at the bottom of my confirmation email:

    CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT
    Check-In time is 4:00pm and Check-Out time is 11:00am.

    EARLY CHECK-IN
Early check in may be obtainable based on availability at a fee of $28. Fees may be subject to change and management reserves all rights.

I don't believe CET properties will add this fee.

They serve a slightly different niche market from Cosmo. Lol.

Cosmo probably is adding that fee and reducing rates in a revenue neutral move to stay competitive with Wynncore, V/P, and Aria/Bellagio which I consider its primary competition. They need to "appear" price competitive on internet searches and this is how their competition is doing it. I can see where their hand has been forced rather than it being a greed-based move.

It would probably make sense for Caesars and P.Ho to add a resort fee based on their target market, but CET is gaining more from its other properties from not having the fee than they would by adding it. And as others have mentioned they are making up the difference with that lame 4pm check-in time and the $28 charge for early check-in. Also keep in mind they still get the money from everyone who pays to use internet or gym.

I think Caesars is playing this one a little smarter than the others who are giving away that early check-in for free. I like the idea of the ala carte options. I would gladly pay something like $25-$30 for a Noon check in or a 4pm check-out.

The day I gotta start paying to stay at their properties, is when I will re-evaluate my business. The free rooms are one of the last things that keep me coming to their properties.

    The other comps are insignifigant.

I don't think so because they make so much more by charging for everything the Resort Covers.

They probably aren't leaving anything on the table. They would rather get the money in the actual room rate and the way their system is set up, they are bringing people into town who will gamble. Their room rates have improved and they are getting money through the casino. For a resort fee hotel, the room rate has to look good in an internet search and still be attractive when you add in the fee. I think over time it depresses the room rate for hotels that have them. I know that we are conditioned to think that there is all this extra revenue coming in but I don't know how often people question if the fees are bringing in more money than an actual higher room rate.

As for the early check in fees and some of the other things they are doing, some other hotels are trying to do the same things on top of the resort fee. My prediction is that as long as they have the same leadership team, they will be fee free. However, when these guys are gone, I have no idea what will happen. I think a better question is whether this FTC crackdown will have any impact on the resort fee hotels. Sooner or later, they will have to give a complete total on their internet searches and that's bound to effect the overall pricing structure for some hotels.
