well i have decided to go to tunica and stay at gold strike
since i wont be back in las vegas until 3/ 2013 i need a "fix"
after doing some reading up i have learned that gold strike is supposed to be one of the better properties ...hope so
was gonna stay at ballys but read alot of neg things ...so ...nope
i would assume the the table limits start kinda low ....5.00 craps would be good or lower ....yeah i am a cheapass
    going sun/mon night dec 23-24
found room for 39.00 thru expedia per night
i believe there is a resort fee of 7.00 supposed to be included in price but , who knows
vegas it aint , but i will give it a shot going in with somewhat low expectations...
i will drive i am 4 hrs away .....

if you'll be doing any slot play, I believe Tunica overall is one of the tighter slots in MS.. definetly more so than Biloxi in my experience and others. I stayed at Gold Strike a year ago and I honestly didn't care too much for the casino area.. rooms were comfortable though. I spent most of my time next door gambling at the Horseshoe .. Just a better playing experience and overall atmosphere in my opinion. I later went to Harrah's Tunica.. I should have gone there from the start, larger casino and it beats Gold Strike hands down in my opinion.

I'm usually an MGM kind of guy, but to prefer 2 Harrah's properties over the MGM property in Tunica says something.. Have fun and good luck!!

Problem with Harrahs, imo, is the shuttle busses back and forth to the hotel, unless you get the hotel next door to the casino.

Ballys hotel has the reputation of being a dump.

    Enjoy your trip!

I think you will be just fine staying at the Gold Spike. You will have three casinos to pick from, all next door and as close as they are in Las Vegas. Maybe even closer in actual time and distance to walk. Harrah's is all by itself and nothing around it. Bally's is a questionable call for staying, or playing. There is a fair selection of eateries by the Gold Spike and the adjascent properties, with entertainment as well. I think you have chosen the best location. Good luck during your stay.

Stayed at the gold strike years ago and it was nice. For a while we were staying at Hollywood, but the offers there dried up so we usually end up at Sams town. Easy walk to resorts and Hollywood. Golf is right there if you play. Only thing near gold strike is the horseshoe.

I think you will enjoy the Gold Strike as well. I stayed there my first time and a few times since.

I've also stayed at Harrah's but like jpw711 said your best bet is the hotel attached to the casino which is hard to get.

Gold Strike has all you need and yes the table minimums are low.

You will also be happy to find the minimums are low next door at horse shoe. Harrah's raises them though, during the weekend, and possibly during the week.

Those are the only 3 I have ever been in...I plan to visit more of them once I hit the PB or MM someday and can start my adventures as a professional dice player.

Anywho, enjoy your trip and dont forget to report back on what you thought of the place. I do recommend the Paula Deen buffet over at Harrah's, and Chicago steakhouse at Gold Strike. Ask the pit boss for a comp after you have played for a while!

thanks for the p.m. and thanks for all the replies
i will check out the horseshoe for the low limits
i would like to try and get a comp to try the buffet after i have played craps at gold strike for awhile
i have never asked for any kind of comp before though
i found out the rates i booked thru expedia do include the taxes and the resort fees , so for 2 nights being 101.00 that is a great deal to me ...first win!!
