OK, so Denny's is now open. That may be good for Neonopolis, but sort of "meh" otherwise (OK, maybe a Grand Slam breakfast or one of those bacon martinis someone mentioned). I'm mostly a "food is fuel" guy, as is my wife, but next month I'll be downtown for a week with a buddy who, while not a gourmet, is not a buffet buff either. I've stayed downtown a lot, but haven't eaten many places other than buffets, McDonalds, Magnolias, the 777 Brew Pub, and Hash House a Go Go. Can you other downtown regulars suggest your favorite places for reasonable fare, and what you like where? Thanks.

I have a rather simple palate so my recommendations for restaurants reflect that. Having said that, I enjoy Lillie's Noodle House in the Nugget, the Pasta Pirate at the Cal and Binion's Steakhouse. I would even recommend Tony Roma's in the Fremont. I'm certain others on this forum would blanch at these recommendations.

If you decide to have an upscale meal, the Flame Steakhouse in the El Cortez is reasonably priced, and becomes a great deal with the $25-off coupon in the American Casino Guide (which also has 2-for-1 entrees at Magnolia's, 2-for-1 buffet at Golden Nugget, and 2-for-1 hamburgers at Binions). Cafe Cortez won the 2012 Best of Vegas coffee shop and is decent food for a good price.

Another vote for steakhouse at El Cortez. Very reasonable and they gladly bring 2 plates to share side dishes which
is a must for these portion sizes. Dress code is casual also but can be nicer if you want. Never had any food that wasn't
excellent here. many times a reservation is not needed.

I know I sound like a broken record, but Le Thai delivers excellent reasonably priced food in a casual atmosphere.

I like pop-up pizza in the plaza as well.

Formerly the Binion's basement coffee shoppe. Now it's Magnolia's Veranda for casual food and enjoyable breakfasts. Love being able to eat with a view of the casino and outside, too. Staff has always been friendly, food prices are super, and the Hawaiian breakfasts are my absolute favorite.

I just love an early morning by the rail at magnolia`s having a very tasty bacon and egg breakfast.

you are overlooking the casino floor and agree it is great being able to see fremont so it is sort of an indoor/outdoor patio to me.

best of both especially in the cooler months.

Second St Grill at Fremont and Triple George are my favorites for dinner. Late night - woodfire pizza at the Grotto bar, overlooking GN casino. Breakfast - the cafe at El Co.

Depends on what you want to eat and service.

For something quick I usually go to that lanai in the cal (1st floor near the entrance that faces binions). Food is quick and priced well. mostly local hawaiian plates (hamburger steak, fried chicken wings - yum, mixed plates, etc.). You can eat in the area also so makes it good for something quick to eat and run.

The Fremont has a lanai area also, they even serve breakfast and have chinese plates. then after eating you can turn to the side and pick up something from dunkin donuts, lol.

I also recommend the prime rib special at the Cal. this in the market street cafe. Comes with a soup or all you can eat salad bar and they also serve cherries jubilee for dessert. The market street cafe is also a good place to eat, usually open 24 hours a day and they serve decent sized plates. There is a menu board by the entrance so you can check out all their specials and regular items.

I've eaten at the cafe cortez a number of times and I'm not really impressed with their breakfast. Part of the problem is that service is slow so I guess if you're not in a rush then it might fit the bill. (would rather go to the market street cafe at the Cal though).

There is an aloha specialties restaurant in the promenade on the 2nd floor of the cal that serves hawaiian food.

at the plaza there is a hawaiian restaurant (might be called island sushi or something). they serve sushi other japanese/hawaiian plates and in the mornings they serve a great loco moco plate. Of course you could go to HHAGG at the plaza. Great food but portions are humongous, maybe great for 2 people to share a plate because it is so big.

There is a counter in binions that serves some good chili and other food.

The spike has a prime rib special, the rib is okay, was a little stringy the past couple of times I visited but hard to beat prime rib for $6.00.

there is a mexian restaurant across from the el cortez that has decent mexican food.

of course if you want artery clogging food you can always stop off at the heart attack grill. I always wanted one of their shakes but my arteries start screaming every time I pass the place, lol.

as usual, the plaza and the D have mcd's. el cortez has a subway outlet. the plaza has a pizza place. The GG has a deli in the back. the 4 queens has some fast food places in the back area. the D now has a hot dog eatery in the area that used to house Krispy Kreme (I rather have KK over the eatery JMHO).

Had one of my most disappointing meals at Hugos with my wife. Very unimpressive service and food.

Love Binion's Steakhouse. Great food, classy service and the view is incredible.

The reason El Co is my favorite is because of their biscuits & gravy - they're my favorite Downtown. Though I haven't tried market st cafe at Cal. Do they have biscuits & gravy?

(I prefer El Co to Binions coffeeshop- RIP, Carson St Cafe, and Bay City Cafe - RIP)
