When you first started visiting Vegas what did you play and what are you playing now?
I have only played slots (Goldfish) I want to move on to roulette and craps but do not even know where to begin! Are they hard, expensive? Can I do it? Share your thoughts.

First visited Vegas in 1996. Arrived 11:30PM Vegas time from Eastern time, drove directly to Caesars Palace with my cousin and played craps. Still playing craps exclusively to this day.

If you go play BJ find a fairly empty $5 a hand table...tell the dealer your a newbie they will usually help you out....its fun and you will pick up on it quick.

My non-vegas start was at an Iowa Indian casino (Winnavegas) when I was an 18 year old freshman in college. I started off on the nickel slots, and progressed up to the $2 min Blackjack. LOL. They then got rid of $2 BJ and went to $3, we were shocked!!!!
It was about a 50 minute drive to get to this place, and we would go often, since we weren't old enough to get in the bars. As we got to know the dealers, we were invited back into the Poker Room....which until this point, we thought was reserved for the "big boys".... You have to remember, this was before poker gained its fame on TV. Broke my poker cherry playing 4-8 Holdem.
Found my place in the poker room and it was on. Was at the casino literally 6 nights a week the last 3-4 years I was in college. Loved it. Just had to make it back in time for morning weights, as I was playing college football at the time.

First trip to Vegas was when I was 21, with a friend who was in his early 30's. Stayed at Harrahs --- played 2-5NL Poker at the Bellagio, .25/$1 Slots here and there, and $10-$25 BJ. You won't believe this, but I never had a losing session in ANY gambling session the entire three days we were there --- even won in the airport playing WOF slots!!! My friend was slightly pissed.... Looking back on it, it was an amazing run......not once did I walk away from a machine or table behind. Wish I was playing at the limits that I play at now.

Even got lucky at the Salt Lake City airport....got picked up by a gate agent, and asked to take a flight in the morning....said I had no place to stay, ended up she had other plans!!! Not shitting you....what a trip!

BIG SIX Wheel!!!! The one with the terrible odds. At Stratosphere in 2010. I was HOOKED. I also played a lot of roulette on that trip. FUn times.

However, I have not played either much since lol. actually I did play a little BJ and slots that trip too.

I am now onto slots (primarily b/c of comps), craps or craps machine, BJ, pai gow, poker, and extremely infrequently VP...actually I do not like VP. lol

Blackjack. Then blackjack and slots (for a very brief period). Followed by blackjack and video poker. Last x years it's been vp and blackjack. However, during my recent trip I played more blackjack than vp. I am confident I'll play mostly vp next month since Terri doesn't play much blackjack and it's way more fun to play together.

    Clear?

Like all people new to Vegas I started out playing slot machines. Then I started playing BJ after reading a few books.

Roulette is a no-brainer and I dabbled in it because it is so much fun.

But I was always watching the craps tables and wanting to play. I was terrified. It looked so complicated. So one trip after reading a few books on it I wiped my shaking, perspiring hands on my pants, took out a hundy and walked up to the table.

Believe me, they will know you are a newbie. But do not despair, they've seen it all. So go ahead and make mistakes, throw the dice off the table, into the boxmans eyes, into the lady's cleavage, and into the casino's pile of chips. They've seen it all, lol! and will be glad to advise you and help you. Just go with the flow and before you know it, you'll be one of us...:evillaugh degenerate gamblers of the casino's most exciting, emotional, and fun game called craps.

They do this because they want you to get hooked... and most likely you will.

So go full speed ahead and I'll see you at the tables!

I was (and am still) a poker player and became exposed to casinos because of that. For the first few years, I would never touch any gambling game - those were for degenrates and idiots. I suffered from the common misconception (shared by many non-gamblers) that gamblers played to win.

I have come to realize that most gamblers play to gamble, to be entertained, fully aware that they are losing. Since then I have tried out many games and have come to appreciate the fun in a good gambling session.

Still, I will always find the cheapest minimums and play those tables only. Why a more expensive table of the exact same game should be more fun is still beyond me...

    My recommendation: Craps and Blackjack

I first started out playing texas hold em, when I was 13. My friend's older (18) brother taught me and I was hooked. Would be playing $20 tournament's with him and his friends every few weeks, with money I got from my parents, and would win every now and then. Now, still hooked on hold em. Play it exclusively at casinos now but have started to pick up craps as well.

I started out dabbling on quarter slots. I tried everything but games like Blazing 7's which required max bets to activate all paylines but I stuck mostly to games like Double Diamond. I never really won on quarters When nickels rolled out I really caught on gambling because I was finally hitting. I was really into BOOM!, Filthy Rich and Sphinx. Since then I have just dropped in denominations as time has gone on so that I play pennies almost exclusively but I don't really spend as much time and money on newer games like I used to.

That's the only way. You still leave with a smile. Everyone I know that thinks they can make money or become rich leave very depressed or hate gambling.
