Tipping Housekeeping

During my stay at Caesar's Palace last year, they had a little envelope next to my bed with some cheesy sentence printed on which let me know that it's purpose was to put tips for housekeeping inside.

I really loved that idea, since I feel tipping housekeeping is very important, and may motivate them to do an especially good job in my room.

However, this was the only place I ever encountered this.

So how do I tip housekeeping if I never meet them in person? I don't really like leaving a tip upon checkout. Not only does that eliminate the motivational aspect, it might also go to the wrong person due to shift changes and such. (Is houskeeping generally tip-pooling?)

 

During my last trip I stayed at The D and Imperial Palace. They both provided envelopes and I left a few dollars each day. I have read that you may not have the same housekeeper each day so it's best to leave something on a daily basis rather than at the end of your stay. If there is no envelope you could simply place the money on the pillow and they'll know it's for them.

 

I usually leave a tip daily.Put a note on my pillow with the money.
Those gals work hard,and deserve a little extra.

 

They actually work longer and harder than most...

Ie a waiter works for maybe 5 minutes on average per customer, a maid min. 15 per room... Giving 20% would be too much, but still.. I tip daily cause they change daily...

My 2 cents.

 

At our hotels it is more like 20-26 minutes and I never tip them but I am going to start. Very true about tipping a bartender who worked all of a minute as opposed to a housekeeper. I guess out of sight out of mind.

 

I take a piece of paper and write "Housekeeping tip" on it and fold it almost like an envelop around the bills, leaving it in an easy to notice spot. Sometimes I tip in person in the hall, especially if there is something I want.
However, if I skip housekeeping for a day, I don't tip that day unless I've asked for more towels or something.

 

We had a funny experience on our recent visit. We left the tip on the pillow with a nice note asking for more coffee packets. When we arrived back in the room, the coffee packets were there but the housekeeping staff did not take the money! The next morning, I left a note thanking her for the coffee and letting her know to take the tip..............she did

 

I usually use the stationary that's there and write a little note stating that the tip is for them and always write thank you and put a smiley face.

 

Most Vegas hotels I encounter still offer stationary or at least a notepad. If there is no tip envelope, I will use what is there to write a note for the housekeeper.

 

I always write a note (for Housekeeping - thanks) and put the tip on top or next to it. Any special requests, I leave a note by the tip as well.

 

I always leave a daily tip! They do work very hard and it seems the tip motivates them even more. I usually end up with extra shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. And I usually do see one of them at least once and I always ask how they are doing and thank them!

 

I do the same without the smiley face I just put down on the stationary "For Housekeeping, Thanks <your name>".

Always tip them daily as it can be different people different days of the week.

 

I always leave the tip on the pillow without envelope or anything and they have always taken it. I guess the envelope is the more elegant way to do it, but simply leaving any money on the pillow is definitely the understood and accepted of tipping the housekeeping staff. I think of all the hotel staff who deserves a tip, they are the ones who deserve a tip the most.

 

We tip usually five bucks a day but put in more if we have special requests, like extra shampoos, etc.

 

We tip housekeeping a minimum of $5/day, but make it $10/day for exceptional service and to show appreciation for special requests.

 

I leave it on the pillow with envelope or note. 5 dollars a day for a standard room, 10 if I am in a suite.

 

We leave our tips on the bathroom sink. I never leave a note unless we are asking for something extra.

 

I tip $5 a day and leave it on the pillow, though from previous threads some people feel leaving money on the pillow has some sort of "intimate" overtones, which I think is BS... I love the note idea, I just always forget to do it.

 

And housekeeping takes it?

Mental note: Never leave a couple of hundreds lying around in the bathroom...

 

I'll leave five bucks a day, with a note, if they are good and comply with any/all requests
