    Awesome article.

A few years ago, I happened to come across the official report of the fire. That was a bit more dry than this article, but still interesting. We honeymooned in that hotel in 1976.

Did they tear that building down, or is it one of the towers they have now?

The original tower of the gutted MGM is now the north tower of Ballys. I think I'd be a little creeped out to stay there. Isn't it supposed to be haunted?

We have stayed in North Tower several times and never felt creeped out.

I was in Vegas when that happened, staying at the Stardust. Horrible tragedy.

Still unbelievable the chain of negligence that lead to all of those deaths in the fire:
    1. No need to put alarms/sprinkers in the deli space, as there would always be someone in that area. Except when it was renovated.
    2. Dampers to cut off airflow through out the hotel and stop smoke infiltration in a fire had been welded open.

A few others listed in the formal report.

Those picture from the investigation creeped me out. Like a true haunted house. Such a sad sad tragedy. Heres hoping this never happens again. Thanks for the link also, very interesting and engaging article.
