I have read every recent reviews (past month) about this place on Trip Adviser. The most common word I see is "filthy". Can anyone collaborate this "filthy" descriptor? I see that Harrah's has the rooms deeply discounted.

I don't know about "filthy", but I've seen complaints like that about them for years and years.

However, there is a big construction project going on out front. Lots of scaffolding, dust, debris and jack-hammering going on out front. If you're looking for a trip this year, you might consider a place other than Harrah's or IP as noise and construction will be an issue.

I haven't stayed there, but the casino is gross. Dirty carpets and stuff, and it's really smokey because it's old with low celings. You can get extremely cheap rates at Flamingo or Harrah's or Bally's and those are definitely a step up.

    I LOVE IP!

Yes, the casino can be dusty...and there bars used to be a tad gross.

Buttttttt their casino is suppperrrr fun! And their rooms are kept rather clean, so that matters most.

If cost difference isn't much more I would skip it now just because of the construction issues. However I was in there 4 (?) times last week. Just walk down the walled in hallway & you are in the casino. Tons of people playing, check-in lines actually weren't too bad the times I was thru there. (Normally between 10 & 2 pm). If you are in one of the back towers, you can get to Harrahs just by walking across the monorail walkway into the back of Harrahs.

It is slow going on the improvements, but the front desk area has been cleaned up & totally redone and there are new bathrooms back by the daquiri bar. Also, I noticed a DEFINED improvement in elevator speed as I used one of the elevator sets a couple of times. Also read that on TA that they never waited more than a short period for their elevator so they felt they had done some work on them (that has previously been a massive complaint). Still nothing showing as to what they are doing behind the wall where the old bathrooms were. It has been walled off for at least 2 months now there.

My aunt felt her room was clean & bed was comfortable - that's all she cared about. If you do have any issues with room cleanliess call housekeeping & ask for a reclean or politiely request a room change.

Yea overall at this point in time in Vegas, with the rooms being so resonable nearly anywhere, and you can stay at a 5 star hotel for $75, what is the purpose of IP at all? There really isn't a need to stay there.

I was there 10 days ago. I paid $20 a night for 5 nights. I didn't gamble in the casino or eat there, however, the rooms were clean, the elevators were on time, check in was quite fast, and the employees were very friendly, especially knowing that things will be getting really hectic after the holidays. I usually stay at Bally's, Paris, or PH, but my stay was more than i could have asked for. And did i mention $20 bucks a night?

I've stayed at the IP many times off and on over the years.

The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Think Hampton Inn or something like that.

Some of the rooms (most?) have a true walk-out balcony. You can almost get a chair out on them. :)

As I've said countless times, my only real complaint about the IP has been the slowness of the elevators, particularly on weekend evenings and Sunday check-out time. (Uh-huh, I know where all of the hidden ones are.) :)

Not a huge IP fan. Rooms are so-so and pool isn't even worth talking about. Casino has always been kind of fun, so I do like to gamble there.:peace:

I haven't seen anything that I would describe as filthy. But their previous remodels were done on the cheap and wear and tear showed up really quick. Hopefully they installed some carpets designed for high traffic because that old carpet really aged the place and there was no way to clean it enough.

I concur about the casino! I've always had a great time while playing at the IP. Granted, it's the kind of place that I feel like I need to take a shower after I leave but I've always had good luck on the slots and good cocktail service there.

The small Mexican food place was decent when I tried it back in January. Reasonably priced, alright food, seemed clean.

When I was there last week, they were giving out pretty good coupons just inside the door, past the scaffolding ($15 off Human Nature, 2 for 1 drink...can't remember what else. I didn't use them simply because I didn't have time but they weren't bad at all).

All that said, the hotel reviews speak for themselves with me. Unless I can get a great room at a fabulous price there, I don't ever see myself staying at Imperial Palace.

Rather unusual approach to marketing on their website these days:

guess we can tell that heather isn't a fan of the IP. For me (and a few of us), I would rather pay $20 a night and stay at the IP then $75 a night to stay elsewhere.

The good thing is that there are options for all, some rather spend more for a nicer place, others don't feel that need, that's why IP is there. If they implode the IP then they will replace it with more expensive rooms, give us frugal low rollers someplace like the IP to stay at!

I agree. That is why I asked in the first place. If the rooms are clean then I can spend my money having fun and not for a fancy room I only sleep in anyway. I like the location also. have never stayed in that section before.
    Thanks:drunk:

You also have to understand that a few people who post on tripadvisor do so because they want to complain about something. Many of them will go out of their way to post something negative, not as many people will go out of their way to post something positive unless they really like the place so you see a lot more negative posts than positive ones.

Part of the problem is that many of these people are cheapskates, they want to pay bottom dollar for their stay and then bitch that the accomodations aren't up to their standards.

I have seen that happen with some san fran hotels, they don't want to pay much for a hotel room, then when they arrive to find the place to be "dumpy, dirty, etc." they complain but they also mention that they moved to other accomodations that were double or triple the price. Most understand that you pay for what you get but others feel that they should get the ritz at a 2 star budget and complain when their 2 star hotel doesn't meet their standards.

To me dumpy and dirty are two different things

A place can be old, dated and worn but I dont see any excuse for it being dirty.
I could never see what the big deal was about basic cleanliness in some of these places, hell you can teach a monkey to push a vaccum cleaner.

Keep in mind when reading online reviews; some people say filthy when they mean out dated. Dirty is dirty. Old is old. Sometimes they go together and sometimes they don't. And you don't know the reviewer. They could be a nice regular person or they could represent an extreme view. Fair and balanced reviews are hard to find.

I have to agree with Lola but you also have to realize that the IP is not the Aira so the service may not be up to that level.

I just read tripadvisor reviews on the place. One was a scathing review of the IP, on how dirty the place is, dirty tub, etc. While there were many reviews that complained about the construction and noise a review or two complained about not having amenities like a fridge, complaining that everywhere they stayed had all those amenities. These people don't understand that you get what you paid for, that lower end hotels do not offer the same amenities that higher end hotels offer and that not all hotels offer the same amenities.

Others complained about the old and dirty rooms and as Lola mentioned, they are probably equating old and worn with dirty.

There were also a number of positive reviews from people that understood what they were paying for.

I had to weed out the bad reviews from people who had unrealistic expectations; actually I don't mind reading all the negative reviews, that way I am prepared for the worst when I stay at the place and might be mildly surprised when I find a place to be an enjoyable stay. Best to be forewarned about a place.
